Your doily rug is intriguing, Would make a interesting accent, What type of yarn did you use?

bubblefizz
March 7, 2006, 05:45 PM
Thanks kathy
yea i thought the same thing, but it really needs a big piece of the floor to show it off properly!

I used worsted weight yarn but it was from here in UK (cant remember the brand) but it was cheap for 400g a big ball lol
but i used 1 cream, 2 lilac and 1 purlple colours together although you cant tell with the pics, but close up its a really nice colour all together ;)

Wow that turned out beautiful!~ I made one of those as my first ever project.. mine didnt turn out that nice though. I found the big problem was..how do you make it adhere to the floor its on without slipping on your hiney walking over it? Mine is rolled up in a closet .. waiting to be frogged unfortunately.. You use 3 ww strands together with a Q hook.

Very pretty! One of my aunts made a doily rug once, and gave me the pattern she used. (It's back in Michigan.) I think she just used a big big hook and two or three strands held together and worked the pattern. Yours is beautiful! I love pineapples. Very lacy. :manyheart

I love your rug, what a great way to use some of the small doily patterns...I guess it's the same idea as using the antimacasters as shawls!!

It is beautiful!...You did a great job! And as for slideing on bare wood floors you can buy rug tape which is double sided sticky tape and put small pieces of it on the underside of the rug........no more slipping:hook !

I've never seen a "floor doily" either but that is a very good idea. It could be made in rug yarn as well and I don't see why you couldn't use any doily pattern you choose. After all it is the yarn & hook size that determines finished size of project. This one is gorgeous. Something else to add to my to do list. Thanks...Mazell

You can use the liquid rug backing used for latch hooking to keep your rug from slipping...I used it on my floor doily and it works great!!

What a clever idea.
I've done yarn doilies while teaching myself something, but duh! never thought to make them into rugs. Now I'm going to have to try one of my favourite pineapple patterns for that. XD
Thanks for the inspiration!

What a great idea! I have wood floors so if I make one I would add a little puff paint to the back side of it to keep it from sliding accross the florr when you steped on it.

Great job on your floor doily.....I have made these before but I used macrame thread and called them porch doilies....they wash great and can be hosed off... I think I used a Q hook...they have porch doilie patterns but I used the center out of a doily that Iliked...
Thanks for sharing

:cheer Very nice work! Your rug came out great. I think I have that leaflet, too.

A couple yrs ago, I crocheted a round rug using Lion Brand Thick & Quick, (100% cotton), holding 3 strands together, and either a size P or Q hook. It was rough on my hands, (I crochet tight), but it did come out nice. I have it next to my bed. It's on top of the carpeting, so I don't have to worry about it sliding, etc. I used a freebie pattern from the net that was for crocheting in the round.
