(hopefully this doesn't go against the religion ban, if it does, I apologise)

About a year ago, in a catalog (maybe herrschnerr's?) there was a filet crochet chart of christ. I might be teaching a beginner's crochet class (maybe at the school, maybe at the church next door to the school, they aren't sure even about that yet). This town's fairly religious, and if it's okay with them to include this chart (end of religious disscussion) - for the class or just available for those who want it to do at home - I need to find it, or the book it's from, so I can possibly get permission from the publisher to use it. Anybody remember this chart? Was it in herrschner's? is it from a book of charts or was it a single?

This is just my opinion, but for a beginners class I would not teach filet, let alone something as intricate as the image of Jesus. I think that begs to have people pulling their hair out and getting frustrated. For beginners I highly recommend something simple like a scarf or a cell phone cozy, small purse, etc.

The first beginners class I taught was last weekend and it was a simple cell phone cozy. 3 of the 5 students got it but the other 2 people literally took me physically holding their hands to work stitches til they understood it.

I think that's a great idea for a religious town maybe for intermediate or advanced, but for beginners, I certainly wouldn't advise it but that's my opinion.

GOOD LUCK locating the pattern, I'd love to see it myself!

I agree. It would be somewhat difficult for beginners, especially young ones. However, in case there are some kids who already know the basics or catch on really quick, I'd like to be able to separate them into a group ready for more challenging things, and have stuff at hand for them to work on. Such a chart would still be a challenge :-) I could always make it as a sample of what filet crochet is ...as unreligious as I am, even I have to admit it was a pretty chart.

Everything at this point is a "what if..." kind of thing. I ran into one of the school's teachers and she asked if I'd be interested if the school was (they're always looking for new stuff for the after school program). The kids are intermediate and middle school ageed. I taught music lessons and classes in those grades before I moved here. It's 15 weeks (a semester) long (luckily for me I wouldn't have to be there until 2 p.m. those four months so my morning naps won't be interrupted with - ick - work LOL). Even if we get the program detailed by the end of the summer, it's unlikely to be approved any earlier than next spring.

At this point, I'm still organizing my own thoughts, browsing the books, magazines, and patterns I have, plus the freebies of the net for possibilities. When I remembered this particular chart, I couldn't remember where I saw it, but thought it might be a good one to have.
