View Full Version : Border or No Border?

Hi guys. Wanted to ask for some opinions...and some practical advice. I finally finished up the main part of my latest project--a blanket. Now I have to decide if I want to put a border on it or not.
The blanket is 3 different colors, alternating in lines. If I do a border, I was thinking of just sc around in each color.
The question is: Is a border a requirement? Would my sc idea work?
I guess I'm sorta getting lazy about this blanket now (it ended up much larger than I had thought it would)...and maybe I'm a little tired of working on it, ready to start another project. However, if the border will make the blanket last longer or something, I will just buckle down and do it.
Thoughts? Opinions? Advice?

I was in that same quandry...I finished a baby blanket the other day and I was tempted to not do a border.
I compromised and did a row of sc all the way around. I really had to as it is a climbing shells pattern stitch and it just didn't look finished without it. Of course a border of shells would have been nicer but I was sick of that blanket!:D
I think it depends a lot on the stitch pattern you used.

I just did 2 lines of sc, one line of dc, 2 lines of sc, switch color and repeat pattern. Nothin' special. I'm really tempted to bag it up and call it done.

I almost always do a border even if it's only a round of single crochet. Just gives it a finished look. Charlene

The sc border in a single color, maybe? Anyhoo, the border goes a lot faster, and is worth it in the end. Just my :2c

I know the feeling of being tired of working on the same project. But I think a border really can accent your piece. I vote for borders every time.
Even a simple one can make it look completed. I sometimes just do a single crochet round with picot stitches every so often just to make it finished.
Three cheers for borders!:cheer :cheer :cheer

I also vote for a border. I always add one even if the pattern doesn't call for any type of border. It just makes an afghan look finished.

I think if an afghan is a simple pattern then a nice border really sets it off.. If an afghan is very detailed then a simple boarder is better. For a simple border one of my favorites to do is sc around with the last row of the border done in a reverse crochet, makes a nice edging and it lays very nicely.

I prefer borders on just about everything, myself. I like Hummywinger's suggestion of a reverse sc border - very quick and easy, and gives it all a nice polished edge.

I think just a round of sc as a border would finish it nicely. :hook
