This is my latest wearable. I have been wearing it out and about over the last couple of days and had quite a few nice comments. It is an original. I was inspired by Hellen's shawl (http://www.crochetville.org/forum/showthread.php?t=21717) and I used the first 4 rounds of the motif (http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e202/Gelenka/crochet/b182022f.jpg)and extended the corner chains - using 11 chain.
What do you think?

I used a 3mm hook, and 200g 100% cotton - size 8 - a decent ebay find! It took me about a week (evenings only).

Liz, that's a beautiful vest! I especially like the rounded fronts. I noticed that if the fronts are not rounded, sweaters and vests that are meant to remain open tend to flop back at the neck edge. You solved that problem very nicely! Of course it could just be my problem. I have a very (ahem) well-endowed top area!:lol I'd be real interested in that pattern if you decide to share it with us.:)

Liz, your vest is so pretty. It is perfect for Spring and Summer. The color is pretty too. I love how you were able to modify Hellen's motif and create this. I noticed you called it a "short waistcoat". Is that the UK term for the US word of vest?
Since joining Crochetville, I've been meeting new crochet friends from around the world, and I'm always interested in our different terminology for things, especially so if I obtain a pattern from outside the US, I'll be able to figure things out! It's so cool meeting people from all over and how we all have this crochet bond! Like the others said, I hope you share your pattern. Just think of it, a motif from Hellen of Russia which is modified by Liz from the UK, and enjoyed by crocheters around the whole globe! Incredible!
Again, Liz, you did a wonderful job. It fits you perfectly and looks fabulous. Way to go! :yay

Hi there, a Vest in the UK is what you wear under your clothes - its underwear - like a camisole and a thermal vest is a winter underwear garment. A waistcoat is a non sleeved cardigan. We also call them a gilet.
I have written the pattern which is available on my blog: http://freetimecrocheter.blogspot.com/2006/04/short-waistcoat-pattern.html (http://freetimecrocheter.blogspot.com/2006/04/short-waistcoat-pattern.htmlIt)
It is the first pattern I have written and I completed the motif grid schematic in Photoshop.
