This is a longish vest/sleeveless spring jacket type thing. I wanted something simple to throw on on cool mornings or evenings. I think it'll be quite nice over long sleeves this next fall/winter as well. I don't have a pattern, I just made a chain in the right multiple that fit nicely around my hips and made it in one piece to the underarm and split it into a back section and front panels. I made some simple shaping dart type things at the back/waist that I really like. I wrote down some crude notes on how I did it because I plan to make it again with some minor changes to the bottom edging and button band to get it to lie better. But over all I'm please with how the idea came out. I made it in some caron simply soft because it's what I had on hand.

That turned out great! Cream is such a great neutral, just love it.

What type of yarn did you use? Your stitches look so nice and even.

I have wanted to make something just like that for a while. In fact, I bought some natural indigo dyed cotton to do just that but.. I lack the wherewithal to invent my own pattern, I think. Yours turned out so nice!

Love it....I have been on a quest for a very long time to find a simple vest pattern...I thought I could whip one up to match various outfits...But alas, I can not find a decent vest pattern...

Any chance of sharing your notes??? I would love to make one and don't know how to create a pattern for one..

Would appreciate it...:hug :cheer :clap :manyheart

I'll try to decipher my scribbled notes and post something that makes sense. But basically I used this little drawing: ( the little X's represent where I wanted the waist shaping to be. Sorry I'm not much of an artist LOL)

to give me an idea of what the garment shape needed to be and I measured around my hips where I wanted the bottom to be And around the smallest part of my waist and then the distance between the hips and the smallest part of my waist so I knew how many inches I'd need before I needed to make the shaping decreases, and also around my chest. I also measured the length from the center of my shoulder to where I wanted the garment to end and how deep I wanted the V-neck to be and I wrote all those measurements on my diagram.

I picked a basic V-stitch for the body of the sweater because it was simple to make the waist shaping and v-neck decreases with that stitch.

When I was graphing it out I tried to make the starting chain so that I'd have an even number of V-stitches to divide later on into the back panel and front panels For instance It was 40 v-stitches acrossed the back and 20 for each front panel. Which took some trial and error since I STINK at math. I'll try to write out my notes more coheriantly in the next few days and post them.

I always love your work. I really admire how you are able to make your own patterns and customize them. By customizing them and using simple materials on hand, you are one of those artists who can make the ordinary extraordinary.
Way to go! Great vest! :hook :cheer :clap
