Crochet Dress - Sheer Delight

Here's a photo of my first real large crochet project. This dress pattern is from a Family Circle Knitting and Crochet book I got at the library, and it is called Sheer Delight. I used Caron's Bright White (#501) acrylic yarn, and put a long camisole on underneath. I learned alot about pattern reading from this dress - I had to frog it 5 times. But I was able to wear it to dinner one night on a cruise vacation and people were asking if I take orders! :lol

This dress took me about 30+ hours to complete over a couple of months (many pauses due to distraction-induced mistakes and re-dos).

As for blocking and care, since I used the acrylic yarn, blocking doesn't do much, but it can be washed in the machine then hung up to dry, or laid flat. It's a little scratchy, so if you make it definitely plan for something shapely underneath :blush . The model in the pattern wears hers over a bathing suit and the patter recommended a cotton yarn (which I might use to make this again)

Thanks very much - this took me abut 30 hours to do - I did this as a first project and had to frog it MANY times in the beginning since I was so new to crochet and pattern reading. I got lots of help from The Crochet Dude (http://www.thecrochetdude.blogspot.com)though (:manyheart ), and it went much faster after that. I'd say it took about 30 hours over a couple of months including blocking, seaming, and edging, etc. Hope that doesn't scare anyone away from this project - those are newbie crocheter numbers.

For this dress I used Caron yarn (100% acrylic; 4ply worsted weight). I'm not positive about the yardage, but I used about 1 and 1/4 of the 1 pound skein.

I would probably use the Paton's or some other coton as suggested in the pattern if I were to do this again, but being able to wash and dry this in the machine is pretty compelling!
