View Full Version : Contemporary Candle for Mom

My Mom's home is very contemporary so it is hard to find a crochet project that would go with her decor for Mother's Day. I decided to try a mesh-type candle cozy with a matching doily. I used size 10 beige thread and an E hook for the cozy. I used the same thread and an F for the doily. I also used gold glass beads in every other space on the cozy.

While I followed these two patterns somewhat, I made a few changes.

Those are really pretty! I especially like the candle cozy. I can understand the difficulty of finding crochet items that fit in a contemporary-styled home. You made a good choice! The candle cozy will be even prettier with candle glow.

The gold glass beads are spectacular!!! Good job in combining and adapting the two patterns.

This should look wonderful in a contemporary setting. I bet the gold beads will just glow with the candle too. Great work, Roli! :cheer

Thank you everybody. I've hurt my right wrist working on this. I think I twisted it wrong so now I can't crochet!! I've been is a blue funk for days!:(

The beads at the edge of the doily look great with the beads on the cozy. It's a clever idea for your mom's gift. I'm sure she'll love it.

I'm sorry to hear about your wrist. Give it time to rest and you'll be back to crocheting in no time. Meanwhile, at least you can still type!

Very Nice :clap

I remember back, way back, when I was in 2nd grade we made as a class project mother’s day paper flowers made from craft paper. I’m sure it was a wonder to behold but of course as Moms do it was her favorite. lol

I like when a crochet crafter looks at a pattern and sees something attractive and appealing, and then they look in into their imaginative artistry and see an added touch that makes it unique and one of a kind .

I’m sure your mom will like that personal touch of yourself you added to her gift. :)

Wow, Roli. I'm sorry you hurt yourself doing this project but it sure was worth it! Your mom is going to be really touched. Didn't you used to have a pic of her on your blog? Wearing a sweater you made her?

I guess I'm still doing that, Tampa Guy! :lol

Actually, my mom's picture is here, (http://www.wolfcrochet.com/page7.html) on my website. I haven't updated for a while. It takes so much time to keep a website current!

My Mom will be 80 this July and it's almost impossible to find gifts for her. She still entertains so I hope that the candle won't become just another "dustcatcher".

My Mom will be 80 this July and it's almost impossible to find gifts for her.

Toward the end of my mom's life she used to say, "If I can't eat it or wear it, I don't need it!" I used to give her chocolate covered cherries as gifts. One nice thing about being terminally ill is that you don't really have to worry about your weight!

It's great your mom still entertains...that means if she can "eat it, wear it, or show it off to her visiting friends" it is a great gift.

How is your wrist healing?

:lol You're right Artemis! Although I've noticed that both my parents don't have the appetites that they did at one time. Sweet things are always welcome, however.

:( My wrist is not doing well. I got one of those wrist splints and have been wearing it for several days but haven't noticed much difference. The pain is actually on the outer wrist near the knuckle and it hurts to even touch it or to twist it outwards. I think I may have to see the Dr. when we get home to MD in a couple of weeks.

I had wanted to add a few of those pretty thread bookmarks to my Mom's card but I had to stop crochet completely. :cry
