Hi...I have a very elementary question. I would like to make a cape-like shawl...I think it's called a capelet. I'd like it to go down to about waist-level. What should the overall shape of the thing be (if laid out flat)? Should it be like a circle with a slit and the middle missing? I want to do a simple stich like single crochet. I'd appreciate some help. Thanks in advance.

The shape is going to depend on what you want the finished product to look like. If you make it a full circle, it will be very full (old-timers like me will remember the old poodle skirts). If you don't want it to be that full, then you will make something like an ice-cream cone shape. You could take a circle cut from paper, cut a slit to the middle, then wrap it, pulling it until you have the look you want. Cut the excess and lay it flat. That will be the shape you want (of course, bigger). You can make it flat and then seam it, or experiment with increases to make the shape.

this was very easy and done in an hdc stitch. i had to adjust the collar on mine, i frogged from what it looks like in my picture, it is now flat instead of ruffley. i used lionbrand jiffy and the guage turned out fine. mine is also a bit shorter than the original( i got impatient).
