Sorry for the caps, but I really need help on this one!! :eek

My 19 mo DD has become very adept at opening all of her crotch-snapped onesies, she can pull off any pants I put her in, and she has developed the affection for ripping off her diaper and playing with the contents every time I put her down for a nap...she actually covered her playpen so much on Friday that we just threw it out rather than even attempt cleaning it..I bought pullups for her, thinking if she didn't have a tab to grab hold of, maybe she would stay in it...no such luck!

So, I've got this idea of something that shouldwork...something like a diaper cover, but with straps (like overalls??) so that she can't pull them off...does anyone already have a pattern like this, seen a pattern like this, have suggestions of something else that could help...or maybe just some extra Prozac for Mommy???:(

Any help is very much appreciated!!!

I don't know of any diaper patterns, but you should be able to find one online. As for the overalls part, I would just crochet 10 sc or however wide you want each strap to be. Then make it long enough for to go from one end of the diaper, over her shoulder and down her front to button on the other end of the diaper. I would make each strap extra long and add button holes (skip a stitch or use dc's). Then, sew a button onto the diaper. This way, the strap is adjustable. Good luck.

Could you use this pattern as a base and just make it larger?

I feel your pain! My youngest just got over doing that. You should have seen the getups we tried, and failed! Good luck!!

Biggg Grin...Sorry, I remember the days, and now my grandson is going through this stage. We always safety pinned everything together when mine were little. Now, my son is handling his son by wrapping duct tape over the tape of the diapers and around the back when he puts him to bed. He cannot tear off the duct tape, and the tape acts like a nice form fitting belt, so he cannot slide out of it either.

Leave it to a guy to think of duct tape as the solution to all problems. Maybe he watched too many Macguyvers! :lol

I never had that problem with mine, thankfully.
Some of my friends put diapers on backwards or actually used duct tape. :)

Rather than make something, I'd just buy overalls/coveralls I think and sew the snaps closed. Or how about footed sleepers and pin the top. We had to do that because those she would take off but that was it.

Good luck.

My girl friend had 3 of her 4 do the same thing! ick!
For the first one, she put the diaper on back wards, so she couldnt pull them off. The last two, duck tape. Just put a belt of duck tape around the entire diaper. Make sure it is snug, but not too tight. You will have to cut if off in the morning..but it is worth it if the contents of the diaper stay IN the diaper!
Good luck!

DD used to do this ALL THE TIME - it was bad enough that I bought regular diaper pins and pinned through the tape on her disposable diapers at naptime, because she would not leave them on. She's 12 now, so I can embarrass her weekly with the story.

Thanks ladies!! My older DD never did this to us, so we were definately caught flat-footed here!!

I think I will try the pattern you suggested, RachelG...:ty:ty

And Stitchenpick & Empress..I've been telling DH that we can't duct tape the kids for years!! He'd have a field day if that was the solution :lol:lol:lol It's a great idea though, and I just might do it!!

We're going out tonight to pick up some overalls w/o the crotch snaps, so that I have something to put her in for now...but I've got to figure something else out before June..we're going to a wedding in NC & I've made matching dresses (Angel Song, one of Etaria's patterns) for my girls to wear and I'd really hate it if the ceremony was disrupted because Lori got to her diaper!!:eek Can you just picture it????

I know in a month or two I'll laugh about this...I can already see the humor in the situation...I just don't want every nap & bedtime to be a crap-shoot...literally:P

Thanks for the ideas!!!

ahhh, been there! my 2 year old still does it on occasion, i would invest in overalls for sure. i used clear packing tape instead. it is so sticky you can't even get close to unsticking it. just be careful, those little ones are good at wiggling themselves out of or into some strange situations!! my oldest finger painted his walls with the content of a dirty diaper.... the other one just waits untill bath time and gets a little too relaxed i guess... good luck!!

OK, so we went out last night in search of 18 month sized overalls without crotch snaps...and we came to the conclusion that they simply don't exist in the commercial world...so we decided to pick up a couple of overalls with the snaps (we could only find shorts-length of course!) and I sewed the snaps together. What we're going to do is put the shorty-overalls over her clothes at naptime & bedtime so that she can't pull off her pants..that way she won't get access to the diapers to go to town with the contents...

We went to 4 stores....and when we discribed what we needed to the gals at the Babies R Us, we could tell from the look on their faces that no one had ever asked for snapless overalls before...the one gal thought we were trying to force Lori into potty training :)

Anyway, now we've got that done, and I found about a dozen diaper cover patterns online yesterday, so I'm going to get going on one or two of them and just add straps to them so that I can put that on her under her dress for the wedding in June...wish me luck!!!:P

YOu can also use elastic seving thread and sc the straps (be sure to compress and half stratch the elastic at the end of each row.)with a size 10 thread using the elastic as a cord.

Robert...thanks for the idea!! I was thinking of using regular elastic on the leg openings...encasing the elastic in rows of sc...I've sort of compiled the most frequently suggested methods from about a dozen patterns and am working up a cover now...will figure out the straps later...I'm sure I'll be tweeking this thing for a while LOL!! I'll post a pick of Lorelei in this getup once I finish it!!
