Hi all,
This is an update to my Holly Hobbie-inspired and Raggedy Ann/Andy Dolls.

This is the first time I've tried something like this, making up a pattern and writing it down for others to follow, so please bear with me.

I chose the name Chiffon for my new doll because it means rag in french and this doll will be like the rag dolls of old. Put together with scraps and simply made. It is very huggable and easy for little ones to carry around. It is about 20 inches tall when finished.
I think it will be easy enough for everyone with even just a little skill in crochet, in other words... If you're a beginner and can read patterns, you should be able to do this. To test my basic doll pattern, I sat down last evening and was able to make the entire doll in about 5 hours time, using less than 1 skein of Red Heart Super Saver yarn (not counting the hair). This does not include the clothes. The pattern will be for the basic doll, but will include suggestions for changes that can be made so that your doll can be personalized.
For the clothes I plan on giving instructions for several different styles, again with suggestions for making changes. So far I have the bonnet and bloomers patterns finished and the dress/apron and boys overalls & sailor hat made, just need to write down the instructions.

You can go to my photo album to see the dolls I've made so far. The Holly Hobbie-inspired and Raggedy Ann/Andy style are my original patterns.

If anyone is interested in starting to test my basic doll pattern, I'd be happy to hear from you. Like I said, I have the doll pattern done, just working on the clothes now. Plus I have to add pics to my instructions which I plan to do this evening.

PM me if you're interested in this pattern.
Thanks all.

I can't wait to see the Chiffon doll. I had a Holly Hobbie bed set and curtains when I was little. Oh where did the time go? lol

I also really like your green "quilt" afghan. Very nice.

Just wanted to say 'thanks' for the compliments.
Also, if you PM'd me I'll get back with you in the next day or two. I just need to put some finishing touches on the pattern, then it will be ready to go out. I want to add some pics to show some of the steps.
Thanks again all.

Just wanted to check in and let you know that I finished the doll head pretty quickly. I wanted to comment on how easy the pattern has been to follow and how fast it works up. I'm hoping to have the legs finished before CSI tonight!

Here's my finished Chiffon Doll. She's just too cute. I'm going to have trouble letting her go. I ended up freeforming the dress, because the Holly Hobby dress just didn't match the hair for me. But the pattern for it was easy, I just decided to frog it to save yarn. Now that I think about it that wasn't so smart, because I could have used it on the next doll. I also made panties out of the pantaloons.

She's made out of Peaches 'N Cream Ecru for the body, Sugar N' Cream White for the socks and trim, Warm Brown for the hair and eyes, Rose pink for the mouth and Bernat Handicrafter Black for the shoes. She stands 22" tall. The only thing I would change is my own mistake. I will use an H hook next time for the cotton, I just went along with the pattern and used and I hook as if I were using WW acrylic. I did slip a little square of muslin in the top of each of the feet because I thought my decreasing holes were too big and this is going to a 1 year old (who probably likes to pull out fluff.)

I'm so glad I got to test this pattern. It was easy and fast. I just couldn't put it down. The hair took a while, but I did do it while I was watching some season finales so I probably slowed myself down as well. Beth, thanks so much, I will email you with more details later today.

Lauren, your doll looks great. I am working on getting the hair done on my doll. My doll's face does not look right, not like a little girl. I am not sure what I am doing wrong but I will keep working on that, too. I may have the eyes too close together. I put red socks on mine and will make a red dress. Your doll turned out really pretty. Beth did an excellent job writing the pattern. :cheer

Hey everyone, here is my finished chiffon doll! I am really pleased with her and the pattern was really great. The clothes pattern was easy to follow too. I changed the pinnie because it looked funny on my doll and sort of made it into a pinnie/apron. What do you think?

I'm finally back from my extended vacation, and I loved looking at everyone's version of my Chiffon doll. I'm glad that you were able to use my clothes patterns to fashion your own unique clothes. That was my hope.

I think I'm going to try to post the pattern on a web site so everyone can enjoy it. I'll let you know when I get it posted.

Thanks to everyone who tested it for me!!!:manyheart

Ok everyone. Here it is!!!

It was done quickly so it's not as good as I'd like it to be (you have to go to the photo album to get pics, and there aren't as many as I will have eventually), but it's here: http://yarneverywhere.blogspot.com/

I hope everyone is able to access it and that you enjoy making her as much as I enjoyed thinking her up.

Hi CG,

PM is short for "private message" and you can do send a message to another 'ville member here. If you click on their name in the upper left corner of their message on a board, a list opens up and should give you the option to message them along w/ a few other options. Hope this helps hun. :)

Thanks for the wonderful comments. The Star was done by changing colors as I went.
Basically, you hold 2 strands of yarn together. Starting with 2 strands the same color. After a few rounds you change one strand to the next color leaving one strand the original. After a few rounds to change to both strands the second color.

example
Rnds 1 - 3 white & white
Rnds 4 - 6 white & peach
Rnds 7 - 9 peach & peach

etc...

Ohhhhhh, super kewl way to make the pretty pastel star afghan!! Did you use a pattern on it or make it up yourself??
Thanks too to the person who told me what pm'd is, afraid if I go back here to see who that was, I'll lose this screen or get goofed up somehow.
Thanks Again you 2 :~).

The star afghan was from a kit from Annies Attic, I think.
However, there are lots of star patterns that are free out there. I'm sure some are listed on this forum somewhere.

I've made one of the Holly Hobbie dolls for my granddaughter, and she loves it. Unfortunately her little brother likes to pull it away from her and she gets very mad at him for that. Maybe I should do an Andy for him.

Thank you so much for posting these cute dolls!! I have a couple of questions. About how much yarn total do you think it takes to make one? I'm on a scrap Christmas this year, but don't want to start with a color I'm likely to run out of. About how long should it take to make? I have two weeks to make everything for dh's family this year. He decided to go home after who knows how many years. LOL

thank you for sharing this pattern. I have been looking for something to make my mum and these are perfect. She had a holly hobbie doll when she was a girl. I say had because i "stole" it from her when i was younger and it is at my grandparents house now, all tattered and torn. She would love it if i were to replace it, lol

Thanks for reminding me about this patern! I want to make Holly Hobbie sometime. Felix, I see you made the Bobbling Along Aran Tote. It's lovely! I finished mine last week and love it, though the handle is a bit too long and the flap corner of mine flips up for some reason. Great work you do!

I liked doing that tote too. I think my strap is a little long as well. I haven't had much of a chance to use it. I'm afraid I'll get it dirty or snagged or something, so it sits in my closet. I really need to start using it.
