Help please! I love wearing tank tops to work and a nice poncho over it. In the summer it gets really hot down here so I'm needing patterns and yarn suggestions!

Thanks a bunch! (Empress, I just know you'll find something for me! :D)

I think you know by now you can search through Crochet Patterns Central and find some more you might like. :)

Yeah, but it sounds too warm... It gets really hot down here in the summer... I'm trying to make some things that aren't going to make me die from heat-stroke! Today it's already 84 and will be past 90 before it's over with and summer hasn't even hit us yet! :eek Since I'm a plus size I'll need to add stitches anyway, so I'm wondering if I made it in like a fingerweight or something how that would look...

What about Lustersheen???? That's a nice, lightweight yarn...

Well, if you want to get elaborate, how about thread (http://www.crochetpatterncentral.com/patterns/beauty_in_bloom_poncho.php)? You can make this in any size.

And you know what, I'm guesing you could make this with a thin yarn and a E hook and it would turn out ok.

I realize it gets hot there. I'm Georgia and it gets hot and humid here. However inside everyone, including my own house, the air is running so much it's actually too cold for me. Not that I'd probably use a ww either. Although I did finally make a homespun shawl that I take to the movies with me. :lol

All that to say, the choice is yours. With shawls and ponchos you have a lot of leeway on most patterns to play around and use what you like, what works best for you. :)

Thanks for the help Empress... Actually, the reason I need something cool is because my boss is too cheap to leave the air conditioning at a comfortable temp. It gets up to 85 degrees in my office by the middle of the afternoon. I have started turning the flourescent lights off to help cut down the heat and have a fan but it really gets hot there... I think I'm going to try some Lustersheen I got on clearance and see how cool it really is...

Thanks again! If anyone has any other suggestions, let me know! :hot

Lionbrand's Incredible Poncho, made with a cotton ribbon. I've got one myself and I love it.

I think lustersheen would be nice. I've wanting to make something with it but have to keep putting it off for now. :)

Me too... But the 3 skeins I got on clearance at Hobby Lobby are screaming to me beneath the rest of my stash saying "pick me! pick me! pick me!"

BTW, I just got to work and already this morning it's 78 in the office and it's not even noon yet! UGH!

I just substituted Lustersheen for the white yarn in this poncho (http://www.coatsandclark.com/fun_and_free/crochet_thread/lc1457.htm) (I made the second one pictured). I am very big-busted and definitely NOT skinny and did not have to adjust the pattern. However, because it's a motif pattern, it would be easy to add and subtract as needed. Motifs, however, are a little time intensitive - there are 72 motifs in the pattern! It looks great, but I remember crocheting every one of them and I'm definitely not ready to do it again!!!!:blush

I am also making this poncho (http://www.coatsandclark.com/fun_and_free/crochet_thread/lc1446.htm) right now. I'm making it with some Red Heart Hokey Pokey (WW) that I got on clearance and it's a great pattern to make. The pattern repeats in multiples of 6 (plus 1 for the starting chain) if you need to make it bigger.

FWIW, I like the second one more than the first and will probably make a version in thread or Lustersheen.

Wow Rachel that is a great idea, and very pretty as well.
