I'm looking for a border to go around the outside of an afgan i'm about half way through...its little granny squares made with assorted varigated yarn and then i work 2 rounds of a corresponding color, so far i have purples and tans and greens and blues, but i would like a simple but elegant border...any ideas?

I usually use either shells or picots for my borders. :)

I'm a shell person also. Especially when done in a different color than main body of afghan. It just really accents it well.

Leisure Arts has a book called "50 crocheted afghan borders." I finally found a copy at Michaels after looking for a couple of months. It gives a wide variety of border instructions.

I took a peek at that 50 crochet afghan borders book and I am definitely going to go out and buy a copy. I'm always looking for some different borders to put on my ghans, other than the usual shells. I love shells, but sometimes I want to try something different.

I'm also partial to shells. So quick and easy to do! :hook

Slip stitch together, single crochet together, reverse single crochet together, flat braid join.
I'm not a pro, just going with what I've heard. ;)

Wow... leave it to Rachel's site to keep us updated on everything. Thanks for posting that, I don't think I ever found the edgings on there.
BTW I am going to look for that book as well.

Two of my favorite quick and easy boarders are the picot stitch or the reverse single crochet. Leisure Arts has a great new book out with just boarders for afghans etc... I recently purchased it and it is wonderful just filled with lots of great boarders. Worth the purchase..

Without seeing the actual colours, I would say a simple row of sc in black.

i'm working mainly from leftovers (not scraps haha), and i found a pretty green that i think will work well with the colors, i'm still unsure of joining and borders, i guess that the squares will sit in a bag for a while:scrachin i'm sure i'll figure it out eventually...
