Hi. I'm looking for a pattern for this afghan which someone posted in the gallery section of the Michael's.com websight.
http://img460.imageshack.us/img460/4198/971014eo.jpg
I'm not even sure what to call it. It seems similar to the Beth's Star afghan but that is only a five-pointed star. This has eight.
Anyone familiar with this? Under the photo it says it was done by Cassandra C from Canada.
Is there a pattern out there?

Hey Mudpie!
Thanks for the info!
I googled around and found this pattern booklet...
http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/1221/aztecsun5ju.jpg
with this description...
First Choice Ripple Afghans
Item Number: 75066
Retail Price: $3.50
ISBN: 1574869949
16 pages
Vivid colors and striking stripes make these afghans top choice. On the cover, Vibrance is highlighted with rows of Loop Stitch in variegated yarn. Aztec Sun forms a 60” diameter radiating star. Fantasy Garden adds drama with looping Front Post Clusters, and Royal Bargello’s ripples have a lacy flair. Little Book format has 4 ripple pattern afghans to crochet in worsted weight yarns: Vibrance, Aztec Sun, Fantasy Garden, and Royal Bargello.
Is this the pattern booklet you have or not?
They don't show any pictures of the other afghans which are in this book so I can't tell if it's the 8 - pointed star pattern like the afghan I posted in my first post.

Yes, that's the book I have. I could be wrong about it being 8 points. It may have 12. I also have one that's called a 6 point star, but by the time it radiates out it also has more than 6, I think it has 24. http://cgi.ebay.com/SIX-POINTED-STAR-afghan-crochet-pattern-ROUND-69-DIAM_W0QQitemZ8284959846QQcategoryZ11797QQssPageNa meZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
Maybe that's the case with the Aztec. How many points does it have, Meeco? I forgot to check my book last night. By the way, Beck, that book is available at Michael's in my area right now. If you want it, and can't get it, let me know if you'd like me to pick one up for you.

Oh! That six pointed afghan is just beautiful!!!
Well, I found a book with the Aztec Star. It has 40 afghan patterns in it.
I looked through the Aztec Star pattern and what they have done is started off with the 8 points. Then at row 19, (I think), they add "filler points" between those for about 4 or 5 rows.
Then you continue around the whole thing for another (I don't know exactly but I'll guess 19 - ish rows), then add more "filler points" between your existing points again.
Then, just as before, you continue around until it's finished. So you wind up with many many more points by the time you are finished.
This probably needs to be done to keep it in proportion. The larger you make it; the more points need to be added to keep it flat. This is my guess anyway.
I've only made the Beth's Little star (five points), but I bet if you wanted to make it larger; you'd need to add the filler points. In the Aztec Pattern, it's done in such a way, (using the same color as the existing points on the end), that you don't even notice they've been added until you really look for it.
ANYWAY, that photo I posted above from the person who made and posted it at Michael's.com shows that they've only gone as far as the original rows of the Aztec Pattern and made it large that way adding much more than the 19 rows. It looks like it would lay flat though. So maybe you don't need to add the "filler points" after all. :think Hmm. Anyway, they are all beautiful! Thanks for all your help guys! I'd love to make the Aztec one in shades of blues instead of the reds oranges and yellows the pattern shows. (Like that six pointed afghan). So beautiful and calming.

Patterns for 6 point and 12 point round ripple ghans are available at angelcrafts.com (must register but free) I've made the 12 point. I think you could compare the 2, and do a little math to make an 8 point!

:hook To make an 8 pointed star, you just need to adapt the Round Ripple which has 12 points.
Here is what you need to do.
CH 4. Join with a SL ST to form a ring.
Row 1, CH5, (to stand as 1DC and CH2) * 1DC into loop, CH2* Repeat * to * 5 more times. Join into the 3rd of the CH5. 8DCs and 8 CH1 SPs.
Now just follow from Row 4 of the Round Ripple.
Easy peasy lemon squeezy.
Yell if you need further help.
I know there are two versions of the Round Ripple but both seem to work OK so it wont matter which one you use.
Have fun.
Colleen.:hug
PS, I did try it and it does work fine.

Hello:
My name is Ava Cassandra Wilson, I made the afghan you posted, I posted it at Michael's under afghans and throws. I made that afghan for a friend of mine who passed away from ovarian cancer.
The pattern is called "AZTEC SUN", it is from a small booklet I bought some time ago from Leisure Arts I think, I'm not sure.
It is also on my website at Ava's Crochet Castle. The link is at the bottom of my signature.
Have a good day!!!!!!!!!!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v63/scapegrace/wavey1.gif Hi Ava!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v234/darkharper/woo.gif I'm so glad I found out about this!
You see, I work at a Michael's store teaching crochet, (only for two months now), and someone called our store asking about this particular afghan they saw posted at michael's.com.
I told them I had no idea what the pattern was, but that I belonged to this Crochetville site and I would ask there because those guys can find just about ANYTHING!!
Well, when I found out from Mudpie that it was the Aztec Sun pattern, I e-mailed her telling her what it was.
Now I can send her an e-mail with an absolute, positive, straight-from-the-crocheters-mouth answer that that is the correct pattern!
You've all been such a big help!:clap Thanks to everyone!
And Ava, your afghan is just beautiful! :cheer Great job!!!!!!!
