I whipped up a cute shrug this weekend following a pattern for a bolero in "The Happy Hooker". I altered it only a bit because the person I made it for wanted it a shorter length. Not to mention, I didn't have the right yarn on hand. The cheap stuff I used doesn't show the shape as well, but I just wanted to see if I could actually make it before I put any real money into the effort. It wasn't too hard! I'm not very good at the clothing thing, so I'm happy with it! I started and finished it Friday night and Saturday morning with SciFi playing in the background.

Thank you both. I've never been able to teach myself how to really be good at crocheting clothing. I'd love to... That's the reason I'm making more and more. I guess I'm just trying to jump in and go. Maybe the practice will make me better.

I have that same book and have been wanting to try that pattern. Yours turned out very nicely. Any tips for someone who is going to attempt the pattern?

Jennifer, I think it would have come out too long to have been a summer garment if I'd made it as long as they said. They do say to make it your desired length after a certain row... but I stopped even before then, and it fits my teen perfectly. I made the medium and made it shorter than the pattern. Remember I didn't use the right yarn. I used a worsted weight acrylic yarn, and it probably came out from a medium to a large in size.
