Am I the only one that doesn't understand the pattern???
Doh! Like row 2, first stitch, are you doing that twice IN THE SAME FIRST STITCH?? Are the rows supposed to be increasing as you go??

That's a "potholder stitch" and it's hard to explain, but you are working in part of a stitch from row 1 and part of a stitch from the foundation chain. it will end up pulling the two rows together. In row 3 you will work in part of a stitch from row 2 and part of a stitch from row 1. It forms a very thick and spongy feeling fabric. I hope that didn't confuse you more.

I understand the stitch, I have done it before. I was asking if the rows are supposed to increase because the way I read it , in the beginning of row 2, it says to do the first thing twice. Does that mean twice in the first stitch?

Sharon, yes you are increasing. I made it that shape to fit the hand better.

Sorry if it's alittle hard to understand. I'm new to writing patterns.

No problem Kimberlina! I just wanted to make sure I was understanding it right. I am sure once I start it will be easier. I appreciate you taking the time to write it down. :clap

Kimberlina,
Am I reading this right and you increase on the first stitch only of rows 3 thruogh 8?
I love this and my sister has asked me to try to make her something like this for a few months.

Any cotton yarn would work best. As far as how much yarn I used, I can't remember...It's been so long since I have made it. :blush

WOW --- Just what I need - all of our potholders have either disappeared or come to the end of their usefulness.

I'm going to work up one of these this week!
