Vivian’s Love-Knot Cardigan
Fits size 10-12 Misses
Materials needed: Any worsted weight yarn, approximately 400 yds. I used two skeins of Wool-ease Cranberry. Also about 24-28 inches of black gross grain ribbon or your ribbon of choice. Size H crochet hook.
Double Love-Knot Stitch (DLK st): Pull up a long loop on hook to measure 1 inch, yo, pull thru loop, sc in back strand of long loop, pull up long loop to measure 1 inch, yo, pull thru loop, sc in back strand of long loop.
Love-Knot Stitch (LK st): Pull up a long loop on hook to measure 1 inch, yo, pull thru loop, sc in back strand of long loop.

Instead of using a foundation of chain stitches, I just began my first row as a row of DLK sts.
Back
Row 1: Using H hook, ch 2 and sc into 2nd ch from hook. (begin row of DLK sts.)
After sc in 2nd ch is complete, complete 12 DLK sts.
Row 2: Sc in 3rd sc from hook.(this will fold the last DLK st in half). *Make DLK st and skip next sc, sc in next sc* Repeat *-* across, crocheting into last sc of row. Make DLK st , then turn.
Row 3: Sc in 2nd sc in row. *Make DLK st, skip next sc, sc in next sc* Repeat from *-* across crocheting into last sc of row. Make DLK st, turn.
Rows 4 & 5: Repeat Row 3. At end of Row 5, do not work DLK st, turn.
Row 6: (decrease row) Sl st into 1st sc(last sc of previous row), 2 sl sts into 1st loop , sl st into next sc, 2 sl sts into next loop, sl st into next sc, (1st DLK decrease) *Make DLK st and skip next sc, sc in next sc* Repeat *-* across, until last 3 sc, sc last DLK st into this st. Leave remaining sts unworked. (2nd DLK decrease) Make DLK st, turn.
Row 7: Sc into 2nd sc of row. *Make DLK st and skip next sc, sc in next sc* Repeat *-*and work evenly across into last sc. Make DLK st, turn.
Row 8: (increase row) Sc into 1st sc of row, (this folds the DLK st in half) Make another DLK st and sc into 2nd sc of row.(1st DLK increase) *Make DLK st and skip next sc, sc in next sc* Repeat *-* across to last 2 sc sts. Make DLK st, sc into 2nd to last sc st, Make another DLK st, and sc into last sc of row. Make DLK st, turn.
Row 9: Sc into 2nd sc of row. *Make DLK st and skip next sc, sc in next sc* Repeat *-* Work evenly across into last sc. Make DLK st, turn.
Rows 10-17: Repeat Row 9.
Sleeve and yoke shaping: (foundation row for sleeves) After last sc is worked into last sc of row (place marker for underarm), make 5 DLK sts, finish off. Join yarn to first sc of last row of back(place marker) and make 6 DLK sts, do not turn.
Sc into 5th sc from hook. (this folds the first DLK in half and make the sleeves even in length.) *Make DLK st and skip next sc, sc in next sc* Repeat *-* working evenly across all sts until you come to the last sc in other sleeve’s ‘foundation row’. Make DLK st, turn.
Repeat last row until sleeves measure 6 ½ inches from underarm.
Note: This is where we divide up the back and sleeves to make the neck, and fronts of the sweater.
We know there are 5 DLK sts in the length of each sleeve, count in from sleeve edges and place markers. In between these two markers is the width of the back. Count the number of stitches, and divide by 2. Place marker at halfway mark for back. Divide the Back Halves in1/2 and place markers. Move up markers as you work the rows. This is very important!
At the end of last row completed, *Make DLK st and skip next sc, sc in next sc* Repeat *-* working across and into stitch at 2nd stitch marker, which indicates front center edge. Make DLK st, turn.
Next Row: Sc into 2nd sc of row. *Make DLK st and skip next sc, sc in next sc* Repeat *-* Work evenly across into last sc. Make DLK st, turn.
Repeat this row until sleeve measures 13 inches from underarm, and end the last row at 2nd stitch marker, or front center edge.

Turn cardigan right-side-out, and with right side facing, sc into bottom right front, and crocheting evenly up the right front, around the back of the neck, and down the left front.
At bottom of left front, ch 1 and turn. Work 5 rows evenly. 6th row: work 14 sc up from bottom of right front, chain 2, skip 2 sc, sc in next sc and work evenly around until 16 sc are left at bottom left front. Chain 2, skip 2 sc, sc in next sc and sc in each sc to end. Row 7 is worked evenly around, note, 2sc in chain 2 spaces.
After last sc in 7th row (left front bottom), chain 1 and sc again but turn cardigan so you can work across the bottom edge of cardigan, still with right side facing. Crochet evenly across bottom of front edge rows and around bottom of cardigan, ch 1 turn. Repeat until 7 rows total are completed, finish off.
Sleeves can be worked in rounds of sc for a total of 7 rounds. Finish off. Weave in ends.
Cut Ribbon the length you desire, thread thru both loops of fronts and tie in a bow to fasten. (tip: Do not wash ribbon with sweater.)
