Dearest Bolero, 6-3-06
You came to me one night as I drifted off to sleep... I saw you in a beautiful beige yarn, thick, but airy and summery. You had short sleeves, and cables up the front.
First thing the next morning, I set out to make you my own. I scoured the net to find your pattern, finding as close as I could manage.. a 1960's bolero sweater with open 3/4 inch sleeves and a hideous spiral design. I figured- close enough! I can swing the sleeves and replace the spirals with your cables!!!
I bought your yarn: Caron Simply Soft in "Bone". I am partial to your yarn, its soft and well priced. You should hold up well. I used my trusty Clover Soft Touch hook in size C. Long double crochets and single crochets? Easy enough!
You worked up quickly and easily. The back and two front pieces I whipped up in no time. ....your sleeves, my love- were a different story.
I cannot tell you how many times I almost tore back your sleeves, considered making you long sleeved, debated on a rolled cuff, even leaving you open like the ugly pattern called for... (a horrible vest crossed my mind once or twice). I threw you across the room three times, only to go pick you up and carry on.http://x.myspace.com/images/blog/smileys/devious.gif
You took time away from the shawl I was supposed to be finishing for my best friend Jennifer, you consumed my every spare minute, you frustrated me and infuriated me, but in the end, my sweet bolero, I adored you.
Love, Your creator,
Elizabeth
