Ripple or Chevron Hat

Hello,
I went through my Workbasket magazines today and found that I had improvised with the hat pattern. The pattern that I used, and made up, goes as follows.

Ripple Cap

Yarn 4-ply worsted weight, three colors of your chose
Hook size H

Ch 98, ( I don't remember if this is the right count it could be a little long and you will have to undo the chain from the back if it is. I did count the chains on the hat and I added two for the first stitch)
Working form the bottom up
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each of next 4 ch, *3 sc in next ch, sc in each of next 5 ch, draw up a lp in next ch, sk 1 ch, draw up a lp in next ch, yo and through 3 lps, sc in each of next 5 ch, repeat from * 5 times, 3 sc in next ch, sc in each of next 5 ch, ch 1 turn.

Row 2: Working stitches in back loop. Draw up a lp in each of next 2 sts, yo and through 3 lps, sc in each of next 4 sts, *3 sc in next st, sc in next 5 sts, draw up a lp in next st, sk ` st, draw up a lp in next st, yo and though 3 lps, sc in next 5 sts, repeat from * 5 times, 3 sc in next st, sc in next 4 sts, draw up a lp in next 2 sts, yo and through 3 lps, ch 1, turn. Repeat row 2 for ripple pattern until 32 rows have been crocheted. (If you do not want a brim to roll up I would do 28 rows.)

Stripe Pattern: Continuing in ripple pattern work
4 rows color a, 4 rows color B, and 4 rows color C.
4 rows A again, 3 rows B, 4 rows C.
2 rows A, 2 rows B, 2 rows C.
1 row A, 1 row B, 1 row C.

Finishing: Sew ends of rows together. Fold each point at center top, pull yarn through center st of each point, and draw together tightly. Pull through same sts again, draw together and secure end. Then sew each point of star together.

When working on this it hat it looks like a little ripple afghan, it all comes together when it is sewn together.

I am a big fan of the chevron stitch. I already have some color ideas floating around in my head.

I did the other hats in different colors, one in browns and tans, and one all white.
I even did different strip patterns. The sky is the limit.

I didn't get to see the pattern. The url said page on msn groups couldn't be found?? I saw the purple ripple posted within the text, but that looked to be single crochet ripple not chevron stitch...did I miss something? My lack of techiness often henders me...liked the ripple picture I saw though

Ooo! I just saw this hat. I have to tell you, I saw a ripple (knitted) hat and scarf in a LYS, I asked the lady if the pattern was available and it was in a book (which I didnt want to buy the whole book just for one hat and scarf you know...) So thank you for posting this, I will give this one a try. :clap
