Hi all you CGOA Conference attendees! It's time for a head count of who will be joining Artemis and me at King of Prussia in July. Please send me a PM so I can get a list of loyal C'villers together. I'll post the list on this thread. From now on, we can plan our meeting here.:woo

Thanks to those of you who have PM'd me. As of today we have:

Red88
Sparkles
Artemis
AndiM
Roli

I'm also assuming that Dodosdesign will attend since they will be in the marketplace with Red88 and Brian. Will there be others of you in the Marketplace? Please let me know!

At this point, it appears that most of us will be staying at the Scanticon. I'd welcome any ideas on how we can recognize ourselves. Do we all have Crochetville bags or T-shirts?:think

I'm still toying with the idea of going (I know, I know, some classes are closed already). If I can stay at my friend's in PA, I might go... Roli, I'll PM you if I end up going.

:P I just have to correct myself here. It seems that Red88 and Brian will NOT be in the marketplace. Well, they WILL be in the marketplace but just to shop, not to display fabulous inventory...Sorry Red88!:blush

Just five of us?
I do not have any Crochetville logo stuff. I guess I could get something or is there another way to identify ourselves? I think we could all recognize Roli in a crowd of 1,000 from her cute avatar.

Roli

At this point, it looks like only five, although there may be others who haven't responded here. I guess we are the "hard-core" addicts! We could always hold up a sign as they do in airports, "Crochetville Party"! Since I don't know any of you by sight, what do you suggest? Perhaps we should wear a little crocheted flower or something. I'm sure there won't be many of those around!:lol

Should we meet somewhere Friday and then again at the fashion show before dinner? :think It would be nice to at least sit at the same table.:yes

I am sooooo excited about this!

I was reading Margaret Huber's blog http://journals.aol.com/mhdesigner1/MyHooksandNeedles/
this morning about the things she is preparing for the convention. Another blog was all about it, too. We are really going to see and learn a lot!

I'm game for getting together Friday as well as Saturday. I'll be there from Wednesday evening until Sunday morning and have no "ties" to another person, so am game for anything anyone else wants to do.

I agree, crocheted flowers are probably not the best identifiers at a crochet convention! If you want me to get a Crochetville bag, I can. Or we could take the Crochetville logo and make ourselves some nametags. I could figure out how to do that, if you want. Are there other ideas?

How many days until Convention????

I'd like very much to go - remember seeing the info some months back, but have now forgotten the dates? (13-16 July 06)

I'm hoping you don't have to be a CGOA member already to go? (not required, but members attend the show free) keep planning to join, but haven't gotten A Round TUIT yet :lol joined!

I'll go check their website for info, meanwhile, save me a place on the team, ok? Thanks, Roli, for starting up this thread!

(selecting classes to take - so many things I'd like to learn! gotta figure out how to be in more than one place at a time one of these days..... :lol speaking of being in two places at one time, I'm already registered for a one-day conference at Sandy Cove Ministry and Conference Center in Maryland to see Kay Arthur [Precept Ministries] speak on Sat, 15 July. Wail! how am I going to do both?! :eek)

Joann and Patricia, I hope that you can meet up with us! We'll be sporting those unique and creative name tags that Artemis is making!

Artemis, YES! I'd love to see you make us some name tags! I'll PM you with everyone's real name.

I've had so little time to be on-line. We've got some real family issues brewing and it's been a bear keeping my head above water. Things should settle down a little after the 1st week of July so that I can get into my "convention mode".:yes

I'm not sure that unique and creative are the right words, but I've got two ideas I'm working on.

I PMed Donna to be sure if it is okay to use the Crochetville logo for this, then I'll move ahead and make some samples. I'll photograph them and post them so you can choose which you prefer.

Do you think we will have CGOA nametags or badges? I don't want to keep hanging stuff around our necks!

Roli: I crocheted up a storm yesterday, so I wore my wrist brace to bed last night. I thought, "Stay on top of this! Think of Roli!" How is your wrist doing?

Gosh! I never thought of that! We'll get "nametag neck syndrome"!

I can't wait to see those tags, though. Good thinking about getting official approval.

My wrist is still in a brace. Had x-rays, doc saw a strange round spot on bone, had MRI, will be seeing a hand specialist on Tuesday. I believe it's nothing, probably something I've had from birth (unless it's an alien implant). The wrist is actually much better since I've been keeping it in a sling and trying not to use it. We'll see what Tuesday brings.

Are we the only ones conversing here? Where's everyone else?:think

Ohhh, I so want to sign up for that class on Overlay crochet (T304C, Thursday all morning) and the follow-on class, Saturday am. But I'm supposed to be at Sandy Cove Conf Ctr in Rising Sun, Maryland (yep, that's a real town in Maryland) on Saturday. What's a girl to do?

Hey, thanks Artemis for the nametag effort (and getting the approval; I was worried about using the logo when I first saw the idea, but figured y'all knew what you were doing and didn't need my :2c)

What kinds of classes are y'all thinking of signing up for?

Sorry about not following this too closely. Been SUPER busy! The end (beginning) result of all the busy is that starting tomorrow, July 1, I will become a pastor's wife!:D
As for the nametags, you gonna do real names AND C'ville names?:think Just curious.

I may have one more person for our table, if you don't mind. I'll find out tonight for sure and let you know.

:hug THANKS MEGGA for organizing this!:manyheart

PS pplcrochets, I've signed up for Make Your Own Crochet Hook on Sunday morning, and Lily Chin's design class all day on Saturday:c9

What I have designed is not really a nametag, but a pin that just has the Crochetville logo (see above) on it. I think we are going to be given a nametag badge in our registration kits...at least that's the way it looks from photos of previous conventions that I've looked at.

There would be room on the pin for you to write in your Crochetville name, if you wanted to.

I'm thinking that I could leave the pins at the hotel desk or at the CGOA registration desk for people to pick up when they arrive. Anybody have a different idea of how to get these to people?

Two weeks to go!

Okay, since I haven't had a PM from everyone who is attending, I thought we could at least do the following:

Artemis has made name tags that identify all Crochetville attendees. Please PM her so that she can have a name tag ready for you when you arrive.

Since our class schedules will vary greatly, meeting anyone during the day may be problematic but if you wear your name tag, we might be able to find each other in the crowd!

The dinner and auction is at 6 PM on Saturday evening. Let's meet during the cash bar so that we can all sit together. I hope that we won't already have seats assigned to us!

The evening hours of most days will be a good time to hit the MARKETPLACE. Perhaps we can see each other there.:yay :yay :yay

Gosh, I know! Isn't it divine? It is a suburb of Philadelphia. It is very close to Valley Forge where General George Washington and his troops suffered through a brutally cold winter.

I'll try to find out how the town got it's name and let you know.

Well, I just went to check the cost of reservations, and I am having serious reservations (the other meaning) about going. I did find a Days inn at Pottstown for $51/night (plus local taxes, however much they are) which looked pretty feasible for driving time to the convention center (15-20 min). The reservations were one of those special 'net deals that aren't cancellable, and it really made me think. I started adding things up - $175 or so for three nights, classes for 4 days ($170/day), plus gas there, around, and back ($50) and realized that I just couldn't justify the expense since there is so much I have yet to try and learn here online and in the crochet magazines. (Of course, just having spent two weeks in Turkiye had something to do with justifying further costs for vacations this summer.... :eek)

For instance, one of the classes I most wanted to sign up for was to learn the mitered tunisian squares technique (Magic Mitered Squares) - and the Crochet Fantasy that just arrived had quite a spread on it. (gleefully experimenting with it now!)

I hope artemis will forgive me for asking for a nametag without first checking the practical aspects of attending the conference :worried :embar

I know that there is so much to see and learn at the convention that I can't do any other way, and maybe I'll be able to go a different year. Do they move the location of the summer conference every year, or can I look forward to King of Prussia next year?

I'll ask it a different way....Any idea where it's going to be next year?

No way could I make it this year...but if I knew a 9 months to a year ahead of time, maybe I could convince DH that we should take our vacation there.

'course I'd love for it to be at King of Prussia next year. We have an interest in the American Revolution. I have an ancestor who fought at Valley Forge.

I'm sorry you both won't be able to go this year. I'm sure that they change the venue each year and may even switch back and forth between the east and west coasts.

It's not cheap to attend the CGOA convention but my husband, Paul, has insisted on visiting EVERY presidential library in the U.S. Since we began RVing, we've visited all but two of them. The admission to the libraries isn't much but the investment in time is. I've been very supportive in that whole venture so I guess he figures that I deserve to go someplace that I would enjoy. :yay

Roli, you'd look fantastic in some of the Bra-vo bras I've seen on people's website. You'd best bring a few extra $$$ in case you change your mind. If you don't like any, then you can buy a second glass of wine!

I was reading Drew's blog this AM as well as another one written from conference. They don't say which hotel they are staying in but said there were some serious hassles when checking in...room not what was reserved. Have to stand your ground a bit. Hmmm. We'll see what happens at our hotel, but forewarned is forearmed!

I live very close to the Valley Forge/ KOP area. It's about a 15 to 20 minute drive for me to get to the convention center. I am attending this year on Saturday and taking a knitting class. (Shame on me. Lol.)

I attended this event last year as well. This year and last year they held two of them and they were both in the same locations as this year. One in Oakland California and one in Valley Forge/KOP Pennsylvania.

Knit & Crochet Show
http://www.knitandcrochetshow.com/

I just emailed them to find out the locations of the shows for next year (2007) and they replied that the dates & locations have not yet been finalized.

For the person who was considering Pottstown to stay in...
Pottstown is about 40 minutes from KOP depending on traffic. Hotels in KOP would be closer as well as any hotels in Valley Forge or Oaks. (There is a Hampton Inn off of 422 at Oaks and it would take about 10 minutes to get to the convention center.) They are also building a hotel in Royersford right off of 422 as well that should be finished next year. That would be 15 to 20 minutes from KOP as well. Something to keep in mind if they hold the convention at the same place next year. (422 is the main highway/road that the convention center is located off of.)

For the person near DC...
There is another series of shows called "Stitches" that are for knitters. Even if you do not knit they are nice to attend for the marketplace alone. This fall there is one in Baltimore. Perhaps this is closer to you? For everyone else... This show has three yearly locations: one on the east coast, one on the west coast and one in the midwest. They also have a couple of "camps" as well as some sort of knitting getaway trip every once in a while (last year it was to Ireland).

Stitches Events
http://www.knittinguniverse.com/xrx/events.php

Questions?
If you all have any questions as to what the shows are like, etc. you can email me at karmah (at) comcast.net about it. I went to the KOP show last year and the Stitches East in Atlantic City in 2005.

I will post picture this evening-

I was disappointed in the number of vendors in the show-
many of the items for sale were expensive and since i haven't been working i didn't buy anything-

my favorite booths were from
dodo's- very beautiful crocheted hooks
copeland glass-buttons
shawlpins-
jelly yarns-this was a totally differt type of "yarn" not too difficult to work with a larger hook

Wow! What an adventure! Just can't wait for the next one. :hook
We were busy from the moment we arrived...and the Crochet Dude was the first I literally bumped into...(Hi Drew!)
It was so nice meeting all that attended and thank you for the hospitality extended...what fun that we did wind up at the "CVille table" for the banquet dinner. The fashions were gorgeous! Rubbing elbows with all the designers... :c9

I took 2 classes: Crocheting with Leather, Wire and Beads and StashBusters. It was fun to do something new and I came home highly motivated! Don't know where to start first. Brian also won a door prize of gorgeous yarns and a bra from the BRAvo auction. Good thing I have yarn as I will need skeins to stuff the bra... LOL!

Anywho...it was great to meet up with all of you!

LOL...yes, he bid without me knowing it. That's what happens when I turn my head the other way
"You know those biker types"...had a roaring good time all weekend. I've never seen him talk so much...
Remind me to tell you the story of him and the bellhop...;)
