Ohhhh...I want to!!! They ended up not doing that Strawberry Shortcake CAL I guess cause no one has posted. And I want to buy this book so badly. This will be the perfect excuse. yay!!!!
I will pick up the book tomorrow. (along with the yarn) How long are you giving for this CAL to be done? As you know, I may need a little longer with everything I have going on right now. ;)

Hey Lavelle26 - I don't know if this is the case where you are but our local Wal-Mart in Garner NC had this book for sale recently! (Of course, I had already bought it!) but it was about 1/2 to 1/3 of the original price!

Thank you Tiggerhale. I may check that out. (or I may not since I avoid Walmart at all costs.) I will have to get up the guts to face them. They are always so cluttered and busy...you can't get through the aisles and then you have to wait 30-45 minutes just to check out. :( I don't go there unless I have to. I usually go to Target instead. If its craft related, I go to Micheals or Hobby Lobby. Maybe I will call them and see if they have it in. ;)

I can't see the pic of the book but is it for the stuffed animals or the afghans? If it is for the stuffed animals I would love to join otherwise I've already mad one of the afghans and don't want to venture there again. Let me know. I just picked up the stuffed animals pattern book at Walmart for $1 on clearance.
lilybean31905
June 18th, 2006, 09:48 PM
sorry about that, for the stuffed animals. And I would have to say finish as you please, we all have out own lives to deal w/ and as much as we love to crochet, the laundry doesnt get done w/out us. At least not in my house anyway. lol.
I have never done a CAL before is there anything that needs to be done before getting enough people to join in?
Lavelle26
June 19th, 2006, 04:02 PM
I think this happens however we want it to happen. We just keep checking in with our progress and help each other stay motivated Some CALS are more strict than others and require you to complete so much by a certain time. Mybe we could set a goal or something to help us out in that regard without being too strict, ya know? Like say, one bear a month? Does this work for everyone?
lilybean31905

works for me, except I already have 2 done ( except for the eyes)

June 20th, 2006, 12:58 AM
10 Bears are in the book.
FelixLake
June 20th, 2006, 10:16 AM
That's fine with me. I have 2 done and a third one about half done.
I'll probably go faster then one a month to begin with, but then slow down and need some encouragement to keep going.

So can I still join even if I don't want to make all 10. I have requests from my DD and DS for 1 each and one of my friend's DD.

yes yes join, you may want ot finish all of them once you see how they come out.its ok if you dont finish them all anyway IMO
FelixLake
June 20th, 2006, 02:54 PM
I agree. Join for one or all. I may not finish all of them because I plan on using yarn I have in my stash, and I probably don't have all the right colors.
The more the merrier, IMHO.:cheer

I've got 3 bears done now. From left to right is Champ Bear, Goodluck Bear and Funshine Bear. This is the order I did them in and do you notice that they are getting bigger. I haven't changed the pattern any, so I must be getting more aggressive with the stuffing. I think I overstuffed Funshine. I like the feel of the Goodluck Bear, so from now on I'm going to use him as my model.
The other pic shows the back of Champ Bear. I found some red heart buttons to use on their behind. I used regular ww yarn and felt for the face, feet and tummy symbols.
Enjoy.

When I view this thread, I can NOT see any pictures! I am really new here, so I am probably not doing something that I ought to. A little help would be appreciated.
Now I am really confused because when I scan down to the end of this page that I am on right now to post a reply to thread, I see a "Topic Review" with photos of stuffed crocheted care bears!! Where did that come from and why did I not see it before?? I am feeling like a total dunce. :think
Also, I am assuming that "CAL" stands for "crochet along," right?
Thanks for bearing with me patiently! :hug

I missed the photos I referred to in my last post because they were on page 3.
HOWEVER, this is what was said in the first post on this thread:

And I never saw any photos that she referred to. Can someone tell me why??
Thanks again for your patience!

Hi Busymomof7 (wow!!! 7???? I want 7 too...or 12) Anyways...I have never seen the photo of the book in the first post either. She must not have inserted it right into the post but I know which book she is talking about.
Here (http://www.herrschners.com/products/sku-343690__id-3412.html) is the pattern book for it. Let me know if you can't see it that way. :)

Not sure if this CAL is still going on, but I started the Cheer Bear today. I'm going to work on the bears while Beth is in school and give them to her for Christmas. I have done one, last year, Share Bear, I have kits for all the Bears, it was just a lack of motivation. I got about half the head done today!:cheer

I have started my bear, I'm making Share Bear. I made it to rnd 15, but had to take out rnd 14, because I didn't really read the instructions. It said to slip stitch in 2 stitches, and I thought it meant to decrease. Butterfly, I bought my book at Walmart, I hope that helps.:hook

What cute bears everyone has made! I'm new here and wanted to ask a question. I've made 2 care bears as gifts, and both times their eyes turned out "creepy" - for lack of a better word. Even a friend agreed. Here is a picture of the one I made for my daughter. Any eye tips? Thanks! http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e356/operamommy/carebear.jpg

Just wanted to post an update on my share bear. I'm still having a little trouble with my bear. I made it to round 18, and realized when I took rnd 14 out, I took out too many stitches, had to rip the whole thing out, and start over again. I'm back to rnd 17, and hope that I don't make anymore mistakes.:oops

Population 800, I don't think your bear's eyes are creepy either. What I did when I made my bear's eyes was, I photocopied the page of the pattern where the eyes are then cut them out and traced them onto cardboard, which I then also cut out.
Then I used the cardboard templates to cut out the pieces of felt. When I put the eyes together, I closely followed the placement on the picture on the pattern book. I saved the cardboard templates for the next time I make a bear.
It's a bit of work, but I think it was worth it. :lol Hope this helps!

Linda, hang in there. I can't tell you how many times I had to frog the face before it finally clicked for me. I found some parts of the pattern confusing -- not because it was poorly written. I guess I just wasn't getting it. I actually contacted Customer Service at Leisure Arts for clarification. They were very helpful and finally helped me get through my brain spaz. :yes

belant, what an excellant tip about using cardboard! I detest trying to cut tiny little circles out of felt, and I'm sure using sturdy cardboard versus tracing paper will make it much easier next time. Thanks!

i have made all of the care bears and what i did, was when i cut the eyes out of the felt, instead of having them straight on, i kind of put them to the side on each side. that way it looked more like the carebears as i remember of my dd's youth.and also the eyebrow, i had it slightly off also on the left eye i had the top tilted in a tad and the right i had it tilted to the left, that way it went with the eyes. does that make sense ya all, thats what i found worked for me. hope that helps:hug :hug :hug

I'm sorry that I haven't posted in a while. December has been a bad month for me. I had 2 deaths in my family, within weeks of each other. I started making share bear, my dd saw it and decided she wanted bedtime bear for her birthday. So, I quit working on share bear and started on bedtime bear. My dd's birthday is tomorrow, but I don't have her bear made yet. I thought I had all the colors of bedspread thread, but I don't. My dd knows she's getting bedtime bear, but it'll be late. I'm not sure when I'll be able to get it, but as soon as I get bedtime bear finished, I'll take a picture of it, and post it. Oh, bluemoon, I got my pattern book at WalMart. I hope everyone has a Happy New Year.
