View Full Version : Garden Party, Original lace skirt in thread

I was recently asked to try my hand at making lacey wearables. I said I would give it a shot. This is the result. I am calling this Garden Party.
What a good feeling to complete a project like this. I sure hope you all like what I have come up with.
The skirt took not quite 2,700 yards of size 10 thread. I used a size 4/2.0mm hook. I used 13 yards of teal green ribbon. My goal was to create a lacey skirt with out being too froo froo. You will definitely want a light underskirt with this one. I have plans on making a short sleeve shrug to go with this also.
I will be looking for testers in the next couple of days. I have instructions from small to Xtra large.
So I am looking forward to what you all have to say about this. Pictures are clickable.

Thats a mile and a half of thread! Wow! That's just gorgeous. I would love to test it, although it would probably take me some time to complete it. I might rather try the shrug, because I have a short attention span!

Very pretty, as always, Kathy! I love the romantic garden theme :manyheart
I rarely wear skirts myself, but i like this feminine style. I could also imagine it as a short skirt, which I would wear if I am 20 yrs. younger ;)

Stunning! WOW! :yay I have seen your work with thread before and have always admired it -but this is just amazing!!!! How lovely, delicate, and beautiful.
I would love to wear this to high tea!
I have never worked with thread- and can't even picture 2,700 yards! If I wasn't so green on thread, I would offer to test this in a nanosecond.
Keep up the inspiring work - spectacular, Kathy! :cheer

That is gorgeous. :c9 You're so talented. :hook
If I ever tried it they'd have to bury me with the few, pitiful motifs my short attention span would allow me to finish. :blush

I love it - you have given me some inspiration. I wear skirts to my ankles - cos I can be bothered to shave the old legs every couple of days! How have you completed the waist line? Have you folded the band and used elastic? :manyheart
