Is this "our girls" as in OUR CROCHETVILLE MEMBERS?????
AmyS
July 4th, 2006, 12:56 PM
No, this is the first season that was filmed last year. Donna and Tiffany were part of the filming as part of the Crochet Me! team. So Crochetville members will be in the show, but not as part of a Crochetville team.
I encourage everyone who gets the DIY Network to watch this show and let DIY Network know what you think about the show. It seems to be a great way to feature crochet (and other needle arts), and based on what I know of it before any episodes even air, I'd love to keep it on the air!

Yes actually. I said what I meant. Donna and Tiffany are still our girls/members (admins). LOL
Sorry I wasn't clear that it isn't the Crochetville Team. It is the episode so many of us have been waiting for though. ;)

Did anyone (east coast so far) watch this morning? I did.
Not crazy about the bed cover or the pillow. However I liked the valance, not in that color though. I'm wondering how it'll work up in other yarns/threads.
And did you see the sweater/wrap on Gwendolyn Faye? You can find her patterns on Lulu: http://www.lulu.com/content/184887
Interesting article about her here (http://www.adn.com/life/story/7551674p-7463261c.html).
I loved how they had crocheters on the couch, just like Knitty Gritty has knitters. :)

I have it TIVO'd and have seen the first two episodes so far. It looks like it will warm up into a great show!! It walks you through the project very well I think. A good show to keep your eye on. :yes

I watched the July 19th show last night (Lacy Libertines) and thought it was very good. This was the first episode I saw and I saved it on Tivo to go back and look again. The patterns were office supplies which were very simple, but that seemed to be what they were going for with that show - simple yet creative things that even very beginners could do. I was thinking of making the wrist supporter for myself. I need a portable one for working on my laptop with my wireless mouse.

I missed the Lacy Libertines episodes but the patterns can be found on their site. I'm thinking of making that note block holder.
Today's is boring for me. I'm not into hats. It is fun to watch crochet on TV though. :)

I have no idea. However if you go to the links I posted, you can find the episodes and they have photos as well as instructions for the projects.
I have to add my three year old daughter loved the yellow/orange floppy hat. Not my style but I thought it was cute she liked it. She usually doesn't like hats. lol

I was watching the Knitty Gritty show today and was thinking about emailing DIY and asking them why there is no crochet show on there. I wouldn't have known there was one until I went to their site and researched crochet and seen the 'uncommon thread' listing! I rarely read down this far on the posts in crochetville and Im glad I saw this post! Its about time they start showing crochet...Not everyone is a Knitter!

What I like about this show is that they AREN'T doing knitting, since they already have Knitty Gritty (both are produced by Screen Door Entertainment). So, there's a greater chance of seeing shows about crochet, along with other needle arts that might interest you.

There will be four (or five) episodes that will be on for Crochet me. It's been so long since we did the pitch, flew out there, and taped the episodes that I've forgotten! :blush Donna is in It's My Party, which is episode 132. I know that I won't be able to sleep this weekend knowing that it's just three days away. :eek

I can't wait to see it. I'm hoping that seeing it will calm me down for the 3 tapings Drew, Pam, and I will be doing this coming week. It's nice to *see* someone else do it first so the whole scheme of things comes together. I've only caught the last 5 minutes of the quilting show and I'm excited to see some of you doing your crochet stuff!

i am quite nervous about seeing myself on TV on Monday. I have two more shows that will air later on, one with chelle (luv2crochet) and cecily and one other show with cecily and julie (skamamawa) .
they were a lot of fun to tape, but I think they will be more difficult to watch.

Mine, Marlo's and Cecily's kids episode airs like in October :P but it gets closer and closer! :)
It was such a great experience, I would totally do it again in a heartbeat!

I am hoping that someone will tape the shows for me.. and want to send them for my viewing. I am willing to swap something. I have an extra 2006 Crochet Pattern a Day Calendar... any takers?

thanks everyone, it was so much fun to tape. All of the staff at uncommon threads are super fun and nice. The host is beautiful and very kind.
I had a hard time watching myself, I didnt recognize my voice at all. It was very surreal. My two items were the jute rope basket and the plastic bag crochet.

Great job ladies! I am definitely going to try the plastic bag bag.
It's so nice to put names to faces and blogs. I have been TIVO'ing all of the crochet ones and saving them so I can go back and get more ideas.
So far it's been a pretty neat show. I'm going to tell DIY that we need more shows with crochet. If knitting can get it's own show, I think that crochet should get it's own too!!!
Again, great job!!!:clap

Today I posted on my blog Knotty Generation, about our crazy 4 days in LA (Burbank actually.) I'm still amazed it happened, glad I got some pics to remember cause it went by so fast, it was a blurr of yarn and hooks and lights and cameras... the smile on my face is a mile wide!

NexStitch
August 14th, 2006, 06:22 PM
Like the first season, we weren't given a date, but told it will be next year. And that could mean anything! That could be January or July, or whatever. I know they email us a segement number when it's getting closer. I'll post that when it comes, but again, it'll be awhile before that happens. We were told that they had already begun editing the shows they were filming for Season 2 (and they started filming the first week in August!). And I'm sure that's because of the 180 degree turn they took for Season 2.
Season 1 people won't recognize anything! The set is completely different, and WAY nicer. (You can see pictures on my blog). The format for the show is different too. They're trying to make it so that you actually feel like you're there making the project and walking through each phase. They don't want it to look like you're going from step to step like last season without explaining anything. And because of that, they've had to shoot way more than they expected, which means more editing, which means more work. As a result, projects, or portions of projects were cut. And not just my group, but other groups we spoke to said the same thing.
It's both good and bad. Bad for us having spent the time and money, but good for the viewers because they won't be flying through projects without showing how to actually make the items. The show will come off as being authentic in the respect that it cares enough to TEACH the audience something, rather than just SHOW it quickly.
My prediction: This show will far surpass HGTV's, "That's Clever," if not for the teaching aspects, but for the simple fact that it doesn't trivialize the craft portion of the show with goofy gimmicks and cheesy camera angles.
anu_paradox
August 14th, 2006, 08:00 PM
Sometimes "That's Clever" is cute but I agree usually they just achieve cheesy with the camera angles and stuff. I don't get DIY:( but I've enjoyed reading about your experience in your blog." More energy!":lol
NexStitch
August 14th, 2006, 08:38 PM
The crafts on that show are wicked cool! It's the production of it that stinks. I know several people who have been featured on it and have expressed to me that they felt they sold themselves out for having been on it. It's free exposure, but who wants to be a part of the dumbing down of crafts and crafty businesses. I certainly wouldn't want to put crochet in that realm. We've had a difficult time getting respect all these years. I wouldn't want to take a step backwards!
And, it's been 72 hours since I've heard..."More ENERGY!!!" LOL. Thank heavens. I'm all pooped out.
anu_paradox
August 14th, 2006, 10:57 PM
I remember when it first came out (when it was called "Coast to Coast") and I feel it was more quirky then but as time went on they just went overboard straight to cheesy. I have respect for all the crafters though. One of the things I do like about the show is the range of crafts they have. To see all of the different talent out there is really awesome.
NexStitch
August 15th, 2006, 01:54 AM
I agree. The talent is INCREDIBLE and the range EXTRAORDINARY. That's what's keepin' that show afloat. I like seeing people who do clay related stuff, and jewelry stuff. It's neat.

Yes, they've changed a lot of stuff, for sure. I would do it again though. Actually, it would be a heck of a lot easier now that I've done it.
What really threw me off was that they didn't fully explain how different your season to mine would be. If it was the same as the first season, everything I had planned would have fit in fine. But because they are trying to get every last small step in, anad have you physically demo each part, they've created themselves a situation where they need to seriously edit down the projects or cut them.
I watched your show on Monday (last Monday) and put it on DVR to replay it, thinking that would be the format and I could watch it to get the whole feel. But not so. When we got there, it was like, "Things have changed.." and "...make it work."
But what can you do?
