That afghan is on my list of afghans-to-do, but as yet I don't have yarn for it. I'll join when I'm able to get yarn and time to start on it. :hook

I've never done a crochet-along, but I am interested. I started mine today! I am currently working on just the white snowflakes. I haven't decided yet what my background color will be. I do have Caron One Pound-Midnight Blue on hand. I think that might look nice.

What do I have to do to join in?

Here's my first panel. This does work up very quickly.

Miranda, You are coming along nicely! I have about 25 white snowflakes done. Still haven't decided on the background color yet. I am trying to work on them when my grown children are not around. Very hard to do on a week-end!

Well Gals, I'm on a roll! I have 2 squares done and 40 snowflakes ready for the background. I am doing the background in the Caron 1 lb. Midnight Blue. It will be a Christmas gift for one of my kids. I'm just not sure which one. I have to make 10 afghans by Christmas. What have I got myself into???? I'm glad I like to do what I do!

Gardener

I have finished my first two squares, but I'm finding that the squares are a little "wavy". I'm wondering if they will straighten out once they're sewn together.

Homebody
July 12th, 2006, 10:05 AM
My snowflakes are a "little wavy" also. But, when you smooth them out they are fine.

There's almost the same afghan called "Snowfire"

I decided I just had to try this pattern. Pulled some white Pounder out and started on it. Have 6 snowflakes done but I need to decide on the background.

Gardener
July 14th, 2006, 01:04 PM
I have four complete blocks done, so it will be quite a while before myafghan looks like it's going to be an afhan. I have decided to weave all the ends in as I go and I think I will sew motifs together when I have enough for a row, so as to make the finishing a little less tedious. I'm not sure that this is the most efficient way to do this, but I think it will make it easier for me.

I am making my snowflakes white and my background navy blue. I sort of wish I'd chosen a lighter blue, but I'm going to stick with what I've got going.

Homebody
July 16th, 2006, 04:18 AM
I have been busy completing my snowflake blocks. I am worried I am going to run out of my midnight blue and won't be able to find anymore! I was at JoAnn's and they don't have it anymore. I've used almost 2 - 1lb skeins of yarn! I haven't joined any yet. I am going to do that all at once. I have about 12 more snowflakes to add the blue to and then I will be ready to join them. It sure will look nice when it is done.

squish_52
July 16th, 2006, 07:01 PM
i have about 25 snowflakes done (minus the darker color) and one completely done, i like to do all the centers and then weave those in and then work on the rest of it, seems to go faster for me :)

Gardener
July 16th, 2006, 09:25 PM
I am slowly moving along. I have 6 blocks completely finished and I've sewn a few together, just so I can feel ike I'm getting somewhere. I'm starting to get a little faster at making the blocks, so hopefully I'll speed up a bit.

Homebody
July 16th, 2006, 10:06 PM
Becca, I'm with you. I like to do the centers first and then the darker color. It seems to go much faster. You are really coming along nicely.

I did run out of the darker yarn. It's a good thing my girls were going to town today and found the last 2 skeins JoAnn's had of that color.

I have 2 rows completed and seamed together. I have about 8 more snowflakes made waiting for the blue and about 12 more snowflakes to make. The rest are completed and waiting to be seamed together. I am really pleased with my progress. My problem will be deciding which child will receive this one. I thinK I will wait until closer to Christmas when I have more afghans completed to decide who gets what. Did I say I need 10!!! afghans altogether!!!! Oh my, I do put the pressure on myself!

Shebear, Have you decided on your color yet?

Homebody.........nope I haven't decided on a color yet. I've been crocheting dishcloths all weekend so I haven't even done any snowflakes. It's really hard to get excited about an afghan when we've had temps of 103 and 104. I swear you COULD fry an egg on the sidewalks but I'm trying to keep snowflakes coming.

Homebody
July 17th, 2006, 08:49 AM
Amy, I hope your move goes smoothly. See you next month!

Shebear, It doesn't say up top where you live. What state are you in? We've had 92-98 temps the last couple of days with high humidity. I don't mind the temps, it's the humidity that kills!

I've got to make a couple of facecloths on scrubbies for the granddaughters for vacation in the next couple of days. I ran out of cute girl colors in cotton so I guess I need to make a trip to the store. We leave Saturday for Mackinaw & Mackinac Island. It's a family affair! All of the kids and their families go on a one week vacation together each year. This year is up north. I hope I will get computer access, otherwise I won't get to chat for a week!

shebear

Homebody..........I'm in north central Texas....around Dallas. We're in drought conditions and orange ozone alerts. Having lived in both Houston and it's humidity and Dallas and it's sometimes dry and hot conditions, I'm not real sure which is worse. I think the dry heat fools you and is potentially more dangerous especially with high levels of pollution.

Well it's back to snowflakes.........a few snowflakes outside would be a nice change for a day or two.

Will TLC or Regular Red Heart be an ok weight for this?? Don't mean to sound stupid...it calls for lightweight worsted, and don't want it to be too heavy by using the "medium" worsted.

Thanks,

Ok I've got 48 snowflakes done now and I have my background yarn. I've decided on Pounder in color Royalty (a bright blue). I've also done 5 1/2 dishcloths this week so far.

FYI...While at JoAnn's I noticed the Sugar 'n' Cream was in bigger skeins. Solids were 4 oz. now, which if I remember correctly makes them the same size as Lion Brand Cotton.

Also picked up 5 skeins of Lion Brand Magic Stripes sock yarn for half price...guess I'll be making socks next.

This is a nice portable project to work on while we are "waiting" during the move. Waiting for our stuff to be put on the truck....then on the other end waiting in a hotel for our stuff to arrive.

Am excited...getting ready to start my first snowflake!

Tell me what you think!

I considered that, but was afraid it would be too "cutesy". I can't get my DH excited about either one, so I'm just sitting. Appreciate the input :) . I was leaning towards black since our couch is black leather and I didn't want it to look Christmasy. DH said black/white would remind him of Holsteins.:(

My mom helped me, and I finished one snow flake. I am using Lion Brand Jiffy Mohair in snow white, and Kitty Hawk (it is a whitish blue, like sky, but much lighter) I am going to try to make my next snowflake alone, and follow what she did. I dont have my backround yet, but I would really like a blue (maybe I will be done by next christmas!)

Crochetrae, If you went with a heathery color it would definitely "class" it up and you could use just about any color with the black leather couch. I love the heathers - TLC has a huge selection.

Becca...now after that post, I feel inspired to really start hitting this hard. I was excited at first, but with our move and all...kinda lost interest.

I better get going! Maybe I'll go to the store today and pick out the bg color for the hexes and feel more energized about finishing this up.

Thanks!

I am going to make this for my friend's 30th b-day in the end of Oct. I figured it would go with almost any decor (I think her couch is dark purple) and you guys make it sound pretty easy!

This is my first post in this forum, I think, but WOW this is a beautiful afghan, and I'm really impressed at how long this subject has been going on as it is always getting new people interested! I'm interested, also, and wanted to ask a few questions from those who already understand how it goes together:
1. I've seen different motif patterns where you were NOT supposed to do the motifs separate because you had to crochet one on to the next one as they got finished (somehow). Am I correct in understanding that in this pattern you A) finish the snowflakes - bind off B) finish the fill in around the snowflakes - bind off. and C) sew/crochet each finished block together.
Also, what is lightweight worsted, that confuses me. I'm from the USA and maybe that's the problem with the term.
-Thanks, Cozy :)

Cozyhomelife, you are correct in your understanding of this pattern. I like the fact that I don't have a whole lot of project hanging off my hook as I crochet. I've been sewing the strips together as I go though, because the idea of sewing together all those hexagons at the end sounds a little tedious to me.
I'm from the USa too, and I don't know what exactly is meant by lightweight worsted, I'm just using ordinary worsted weight yarn (Bernat brand for the dark color and Caron one pounder for the light) and its turning out fine. My hexagons are measuring about 10 inches from point to point.

Oh, I can't wait to start it! Hobby Lobby is having a big yarn sale this week and I'm looking to get what I need. I always buy 1 skein extra of all the requiared colors because of hearing so many sad stories of running out. If I have it left over, I don't care, I can always make a pillow, use it for plastic canvas, or some scrap afghan in the future. I haven't made an afghan in 30 years. I made one for the birth of my niece, which I wish I could find my book on that, it was beautiful and simple (probably dropped behind something, it's a small booklet), and a shell like pattern that I just made up as I went for my mom. Up to a week ago, I didn't think about afghans, and suddenly I'm looking all over the internet and ebay for patterns!

Do you mean that you used 4 "Pounders" altogether, or 4 of just one color or what? To be clear, how many blue and how many white? 4 pounders sounds like a lot if you just mean the blue... it doesn't look like it's a really big afgan? I don't think I've ever seen pounders in the dark blue, only in baby colors. I'll look harder at the store and see if I missed it, since I wasn't really doing any afghans or baby stuff, it's possible I didn't notice. It does look great, even with the color mix, you'll love it even more when it snows!

September 5th, 2006, 03:06 PM
sorry, it was 4 pounders of the dark color and i used 2 of the light
i used deep purple, and it's really not that big, but the rounds that you use dark colors on is all double and single crochet with 6 trebles mixed in along with a few half doubles...it's really thick and heavy. I think becasue the pattern called for light worsted weight, that's why i ended up using twices as much yarn...but it's such a nice afghan and i really enjoyed making it

Becca, I see. Thanks for clarifying. That pounder yarn does seem to be skinnier than other ww yarn I've seen. I guess with such heavy stithces, it is important to watch not to get anything to heavy! It will be interesting to see what I come with. I'm having a busy week trying to get ready for my son to come home for a week, with his girlfriend, but plan to get some yarn bought anyway.

Squish_52, your afghan looks great!

Cozyhomelife, I couldn''t find pounders in dark blue, so I'm using 12 oz skeins. I have 13 hexagons totally finished and have a little of the dark yarn left. I thinbk that means that I had better get some more of the dark yarn while I can, since I will likely need at least 4 of them, maybe 5.

The 12 oz ones are Bernat super value. I'm hoping it washes up okay.

I'm using Caron 1 pounders for the snowflakes, because I had one in white that I had purchased for some other project that I envr got to.

I'm so stupid, I can't believe it! It was the lack of comma that lead me astray. It does not say to buy light ww yarn, the light word goes with how many light colored to buy!
You need dark and light colored yarn, Look:
Materials: (32 oz. dark), (28 oz. light) worsted-weight yarn. G hook (4.25 mm)
Ha, ha, at least I figured it out in time. I went to Hobby Lobby and bought the white, and even though it says no dye lot, some were definitely yellow cast, so I checked mine really hard at the store and will check them in the sun and under a lamp light to make sure I didn't get any different looking ones. Now about the dark color. I absolutely LOVE the dramatic dark look and think it is the best look, BUT I have 4 cats and have to wonder if it will only look good until 5 minutes after I put it on the couch and then become a hairbal eyesore. So, I am thinking about light blue, the same affect as a moonlit night when it snows. It might work because I love that look and my living room is light blue. I thought it was stupid to stand there all day staring at the different blues trying to imagine it, because I know I never come to a conclusion. So, for once in my life, I bought the one I knew and left the other till later. I will try to get 1 snowflake made and then be able to place it on the other colors to be satisfied with the look before the sale is off. If it does go off, it'll take me forever to make the flakes and I can pick up some blue next sale. No problem. I'm feeling good about it :)

The only problem is that I HATE:angry to piece things together yet I still find and do these types of patterns as they are just soo darn cute.:hook

Did anyone else have trouble with their center hole looking incongruent? You can tell where mine started and also the first hole in the first stem going up in the next round is not as well shaped as all the others. I'm considering finishing the center round like a doily so it will come out better for me. Did anyone else notice that?

I 'm using Jiffy yarn, the mohair kind, and they are pretty thick. I have charcoal heather for the outside.
I 'm also going to make mine smaller, prob just 23 motifs. --or more if I get them done in time.

cozyhomelife
September 12th, 2006, 09:40 AM
I think if you made it from a smaller yarn than the ww you are going to have a lot smaller motif and might have to make twice as many!
I loved the dark in the pattern, but have 4 cats and didn't think the good look would last more that 5 minutes here, so I bought 2 different yarns to do mine. The first yarn I wanted to use was Redheart Delft Blue which has just a small touch of turquoise in it, and it is bright. It is down a shade from the regular blue in brightness. Since my LV wall is a light obin's egg blue, this is much like it in hue, just brighter. I had bought one a few weeks ago, but couldn't find it again. So, I ended up buying this yarn that is a shaded color by Bernat, it goes from navy to almost the same color of blue that I wanted. I thought it looked like a shaded nighted sky with light and dark parts. Then I happened to go to Walmart for something else and discovered that they were the ones who had the Delft Blue and no one else carries it, so got more of that. I'm thinking of making the shaded one for my son for Christmas now. He is also very tall, so I don't know how many motifs I'll need, actually it will work out with no problem because with the shaded yarn if I end up needing more yarn it won't show a dyelot difference - I bought all they had.
I am a little worried that all the holes in the pattern will let warm out, we'll see.
Oh, I have made house socks and house shoes from the Redheart and when washed it came out like new, but I have not used the Bernat. I will need to make a swatch and wash it and make sure it doesn't come out will pills/balls and look bad before I continue to make more with it. If it loses it looks I'll take it all back except the one I opened.
When my son goes back home in a week, I'll sit down and make a chain->into a joined hole->put sc or dc around it until I get th required amount->join it for a finished round. Then crochet up a 3 st (if the next are dc, can't remember) and start the new round, doily style.

i'm a fairly loose crocheter so i dont think they would come out much smaller, besides i think this pattern is pretty adaptable so i would probably use a larger hook, maybe an H if i did this again...but i got the idea that this would make a stellar baby ghan in bernat baby coordinates in that bright baby blue they have for the outer edge and for the snowflakes use that pretty pink they have, and just cut down the size of the afghan to about half or 1/3. :) good luck for all those who haven't finished....btw i finished mine but forgot to take pics...the edging makes like little puffs, it's really cute!

Hi! How big is the finished afghan? I couldn't find measurements on the pattern site. I'd like to make this as a baby blanket for a friend due in January, but I want to try to figure out how many hexagons I'll need to make for a baby size. How big is each hexagon? Maybe that would be a better way for me to figure out my measurements...

cozyhomelife
September 20th, 2006, 03:08 AM
I've only done one block and it measures 9" from pt to pt or 8" from flat side to flat side, with ww yarn. That's way big for a baby afghan, but you may have better luck with baby yarn. The blocks work up REAL quick, so if you have any baby yarn, even if it's the same color, make one up to see how you think it would be in size.

How are the afghans coming? I confess that I only add a round or two every few days. When I started this I made a block or 2 every day, and some days I amde 5 or 6. I'm now moving so slowly that my teenage daughter has offered to help me finish as she is tired of seeing it in a basket next to the sofa. I have started too many things and I want them all finished quickly, with the result that nothing much is getting done. I have been flitting from project to project. So starting today, everything is going into the closet until I finish the afghan. I have more than half the hexagons done, and I've even sewed a few rows together, so its getting there.

I'm pretty much a beginner and it takes me 30-45 minutes to finish a hexagon, so I think its going pretty quickly. I would think a more experienced crocheter could do them faster. since the afghan is made in small parts it is easy to take along to work on at a game or just in the car.

Lisa--

From what I can see--I think the problem is when you are doing round 4. You are putting the stitches in the corners and I believe they go in between the corners (I am not at home and can't grab some yarn and a hook to tell for sure though). The corners are your ch 3 spaces and in between the corners are your ch 2 spaces. See if that helps. If not, when I get home tonight I will sit down and check for you.

jchllm
October 3rd, 2006, 06:29 PM
I DID put them in the corners, not the ch2..........maybe that's what I did wrong.

Thanks a lot Miranda. I'll frog part of it and redo it and see what happens. I won't be able to tonight because my son is home and I don't want him to see but I'll try first thing in the morning.

I think your problem starts before rnd 4 ( hard to tell w/ that varg. yarn) but looks like from the start you have only five spaces to work in --maybe you did only 5sc and then had only 10 dc in the next rnd?(there should be 6 [dc,ch2,dc] in rnd 2. And you do work in the ch-3 spaces, the corners. Excuse me butting in but thought that might help! Here it is Miranda.............

Quie often with a hexagonal patter (and other such) they will give the instructions
for the first situation- where you start using a ch 3 etc,
then they tell you to do four more in a different 'way'
and then they give you the final bit
so you end up with 6 bits all together.

you may be miscounting from that original row.

(Please don't ask me how i know this can happen)

JulieK, I keep asking this question, but no one knows, I guess. Now that you have this put together, maybe you know. I've been worried about these blocks because they are so holey, that it will be an attractive afghan, but not really warm to be under. If it's just attractive, but not all that warm, I'll just make a throw for the back of the couch, rather than make Christmas gifts out of it. I also made my block from RH Super Saver and it is very stiff, not like it would drape well against the body. That plus the holes, just leaves me in doubt about how warm it will work out to be for winter use, and it's a pattern that is not really suitable for lighter summer use!

Hi Cozy
Well, the holes in mine didn't seem too big -- they were noticeable, but not big enough that they would let in a lot of cold air I don't think. Also, the edging is solid, so that part is thick and warm . What size hook did you use and do you crochet loosely or tighter ?
Some people who crochet loosely, the items with holes are bigger and more stretchy .
It turned out to be big and thick and warm I thought . I used RedHeart for the blue part, but for the snowflake part I used Lion Brand Wool-ease which is a little thinner yarn than RH is . I thought that might be a problem, using 2 different thicknesses of yarn, but it didn't seem to matter much .
I would say it's definitely warm . Not thin and holey enough for warmer weather use .

Hope this helped !:)

I don't think I really know if I'm a tight or loose crocheter, because I'm pretty new at it. I just did a little years ago and have come back to it recently. I know I'm a tight knitter, and had to practice to not make my stitches so tight I could barely move them on the needles! Maybe if you look at my block you'll be able to tell if it's too loose looking. I have a pic on my blog on the current page, right at the top.

Hi Cozy
I just looked at your snowflake -- it looks really pretty ! I wouldn't say you were a loose crocheter at all, and not really super-tight. It looked just about right to me .:)
I really don't think the holes will be a problem since the majority of the afghan is in the blue and it is very good thick sturdy yarn .
Keep at it. I bet it's gonna be gorgeous when done !

I did a test motif back when this CAL began, and my hexagons came out to 8" across from side to side using a 'G' (4.25) hook and regular worsted weight (red heart) yarn.

I am using Jiffy in white and TLC charcoal heather for the border, using an "I" hook mine are coming out 10 in across (from the points) and about 9 the other way. I wish i used the same size yarn( the grey is thinner) cuz the edges are a bit wavy. They do flatten out, but I hope they don't look bad when i put them all togther. I really don't want to block this.

cozyhomelife
October 13th, 2006, 06:10 PM
Karillia - my edges are warbly, too. I didn't know if that was my lack of experience so maybe by dc were too big which might make them take up too much room and wave. But you can't block synthetic fibers, it don't work. Maybe others will tell if their flake edges were wavy and if it mattered when sewn together.

Hi Guys
For those of you worrying about the edges being a little bit ruffly, they will probably work out just fine whene it is sewn together. There almost seemed to be a few too many stitches along the edges or something, making the hex's a little uneven looking along the sides, but once they are all put together, they look just fine .

Good luck ! :)

Thanks cozyhomelife, squish_52, Juliekay, and karillia! I'm glad to know that I did have the size about right.

Thanks also Juliekay for letting us know the wobbly edges are normal. I asked after doing my test block about that (way back when on a different thread), but nobody had responded.

ok i am up to 17 snow flakes and have figured out i will need a total of 11 skiens of the kittyhawk http://www.lionbrand.com/yarns/jiffy.htm how many skiens of dark would i need to finish do you think? whicj dark woul du recommend to go with it?

Laura, I decided to try a flake from Jiffy last and was surprised at how hard it was to pull the yarn thru each stitch, as it clung to itself so badly. Are you finding any of that?
About the amounts, the instructions say:
32 oz. dark, 28 oz. light
So since the Jiffy page says there are 3 oz (2 1/2 variegated) I would make a guess that you will need at least 2 skeins more of the dark. It's reallly hard to look at the pics and guess at how the kitty hawk is coming off, but just for fun, I'll guess at looking at the violet to go with it. They are far apart on the page, which makes it harder to imagine together, also.

Cozy,

I was shocked to read thier discription of color for kitttyhawk. My bf foirmerly worked post production for films and is a color expert. He thought it was the color of cloud edges you know white and where the blue is just poking thru?

cozyhomelife
October 19th, 2006, 01:06 PM
I've never seen it in person, but even the pic there seems to show a little purple and uh... trying to remember.... was it green? I wondered about how it looked as a snowflake, but your description sounds much different than the pic. Have you decided on the blue you will use? What about the question I asked? You had no difficulty working with the yarn? I didn't finish the one snowflake I tried because the yarn stuck to itself and it was hard for me to pull it thru. I mean, one would be ok, but 59 might have wigged me out to struggle with.

October 19th, 2006, 09:14 PM
hi! I am also using the Jiffy in white for my flakes and don't have a problem with it. I am using an 'I' hook, if that makes a difference. I am using charcoal grey for the background, kinda wish i used something a bit more cheerful, seems a bit somber. I haven't sewn any together, so hopefully it will look better in one piece.

that must be why it's no trouble and mine was awful. With a G, it's all tighter, so it will stick together more.

Hi Southern,
Glad to have you along. These blocks work up quickly, and look so nice.
I'm using a blue that is maybe slightly lighter than navy, but the package calls it navy and I think its going to look great if I ever get the afghan finished. DH and I are going away for the weekend and I'm taking it along to work on in the car. I have about 10 snowflakes that need the navy borders added. I am sewing strips toether when I get a few done, just so I won't have to sew them all together at the end, which to me,.is the most tedious part of making a block afghan.

Hi Gardener,
Thank you. The blocks do work up quickly. I have 8 snowflakes already. That is a good idea about sewing the strips as you go. I'm going to give it a try.

I have made this exact pattern as a gift - my advice: don't do it in a time constraint! I started mid Oct. and finished the week before Christmas - I had to make 3 complete snowflakes with blue around it A DAY to stay on task! But it turned out nice - I changed to size to be more rectangular to suit my taste. It is quite a heavy afghan when done.

I can't tell you how many times I had to frog it.:thair The tcr in ch-1 space on rnd 4 is what I was having problems with. I think that I am going to do this project, I just joined Crochetville, so I am late in joining in, but I love the pattern. Welcoem bella song. I make 6 or 7 snowflakes at a time and then add all the borders, and usually then sew the finished snowflakes together in a strip. I feel like they work up faster this way. (although that's probably not true!)

How thick is this blanket? Would it be too thick if the yarn were doubled up upon?

Beaglelady
October 31st, 2006, 10:25 AM
it's not thick at all - as the hexagons are worked with one strand. The center (white) is work first, then trimmed in desired color. Could it be worked with two strands? I guess so - but I think it would be too bulky.

darski
October 31st, 2006, 10:50 AM
It would also depend on the yarn you were using - 2 strands of baby yarn might be ok. i don't think you would like two of WW. You would need a large hook and the afghan would not likely look just as you would want it to

All right, you guys have finally convinced me...I've seen this before and bookmarked the pattern, but reading all these posts yesterday got me so excited to 1) make my first afghan or blanket and 2) join my first CAL. Everyone here has probably finished theirs already but I started mine today! The snowflake pattern is SO easy and fast!

One question for those who have finished, though: I've got two snowflakes done and the chain-3 spaces connecting the six points do not show in the final blanket, am I right? Because my snowflakes have those and I don't see them in the finished blanket. Does the dark color yarn go over those spots when joining?

I'd love to see any pictures anyone has--I saw Squish's purple one and it's lovely!

Ooh, I haven't seen that yarn! I'll have to look for it...it sounds lovely.

I'm stuck, guys, and need your help...I've got 30 snowflakes finished and I decided to try the hexagon part on one just to see how that color would look. I can't understand the directions at all. It must be something easy and I'm just not getting it, but I don't know what "chain 2 space" it's talking about right at the beginning of round 6, or the next 2 spaces. I assumed it meant the chain 2 space in between the 4 dc on round 5, but if that's the case, then I don't understand which "next 2 spaces" the half-doubles are supposed to go in. I'm so confused. Help, anyone?? Thank you so much!!

Edit: maybe never mind...I looked at pictures someone posted of their close-up square (was it Julie?) and it helped tremendously. I'm thinking now that the "spaces" just means in between the 4 dcs, even though there are no spaces there. Am I right?

Thanks!! One more question: when did you weave in your ends? I'd like to get rid of all the white ends before putting on the dark color but there doesn't seem to be many good places to hide them in the snowflake itself. Did you weave them in before doing the hexagon part?

Gardener
November 25th, 2006, 08:41 PM
I did the white part as I finished each snowflake, mostly I just sort of wove them in along the edge, where the darker color would hold them a bit too. I am sewing my hexagons together as I finish them, so I weave in the inside darker color as I finish each one, but I have been using the outside end to sew the pieces together.

Hi Guys
Sorry, I havent checked in here in a couple days, but to answer the question that someone already answered, yep, you just make your stitches between the dc's --- there is no space there for them, you just make the stitch there .
I used the Lion brand yarn that one of you mentioned and it did make a REALLY pretty snowflake .Reminds you of real snow in the sun, how it sparkles .
This pattern would be pretty in almost any color. I know I saw a post once of someone who made the snowflakes in all different really bright colors, then the hex part was all done in black. Wow- it was REALLY pretty. They looked almost like huge flowers .
This is definitely a beautiful afghan and so much easier than it actually looks .
I guess the worst part is putting it together, but it's not too bad .
You can weave in the ends anytime you want to, some people prefer saving that all for last, but I like weaving them as I go so you don't have such a lot of them to do all at once .

Kiirs
November 28th, 2006, 05:16 PM
Thanks for the information! I spent yesterday weaving in the snowflake ends, and started on the hexagons today. Problem is, I don't know what color to choose! I want to do it in some kind of blue and got two different ones and framed the snowflakes in both, and my kids are divided on which is better, and so am I. :) Maybe my husband can be the tiebreaker when he comes home.
