Forgot to mention that I'm now trying to decide if I should make my 2nd daughter's blanket with my new pattern. It's SO much easier than my old pattern, I'm pretty sure I'd get caught right up in no time, compared to having to trudge through that other pattern that I don't like...I would just take my old ones and separate them, then make some plain squares, join them and then raffle or donate it... it's just so HARD to think of using that clunky pattern 22 more times!
:think what should I do?

If it's an easier square and you would enjoy it more, then start over :)

I am thinking that is what I will do - just start over. Crocheting is sometimes about attitude, and if I have to make all those squares while LOATHING them, I will scream!!!!
At least I have learned something important about designing a pattern - it has to have repetition, or else it's TOO CUMBERSOME!

Krystal - Yes, I would definitely start over, and use the squares you already have completed along with different, better squares. :) You don't want to hate doing something you should be enjoying!!
By the way, I LOVE the pattern you designed!

These squares are a different size, so I am not sure I will work the old in with the new. I think I will start with the new all over again, and recycle the old ones to a different lapghan-type of thing and find a new home for it. :D
Thanks for the compliment!

I am finishing my LAST Gerber Daisy square TODAY!!!!!
I think I have decided what to do for a border.. :D
I am going to do a round with the variegated in SC just to get everything evened up. Then I am going to use the light sage (from the "leaves") and do a modified version of the border that is on the Sunrise/Sunset afghan pattern that I got for free on Coats&Clarks' website. It's got a row with a contrasting colored puff and I think it's cute. Might do the puff in the variegated, might do it in the light pink or purple...haven't decided. Will probably decide once I get there and see how it looks.

I've finished the first row of my scarf! Yay!! Here's a pic:
http://static.flickr.com/110/251311143_b217659b37.jpg
I worked over all the loose ends except for the last one on each flower: those ones I wove in after completing the row. It was not that bothersome and I think I'll continue this way.
The yarn is merino wool. It feels pretty soft and is easy to crochet with. I hope it won't be itchy around my neck!!

Krystal16, Your afghan is just stunning! I love the colours. I have printed off this pattern and added it to the every growing list of must do.
Adri, The yarn is an 8 ply acrylic. (sports weight I think ) 4.50 mm hook. The yarn is surprisingly soft for acrylic. It was on special at Kmart for $1.95 a ball and I went crazy and bought heaps. The pattern is in "Afghans for all Seasons "Book 4. It is surprising quick once I figured out my own version of the pattern. It was easier to study the picture than the written instructions. The instructions seem to leave big gaps in some of the info. ( cause it could just be me, I haven't crocheted in 20 years :lol)
Thanks for all the compliments!

I'm going well on the border - decided I'm going to do the border from the Sunrise/Sunset afghan by Coats & Clark. I just haven't decided if my accent color will be pink or purple. I'll have to see when I get that far. Thought about using the variegated, but I think that will be washed out with the small bits that will show.

Playing catch-up again! Some extremely wonderful progress to comment on :)
Adri - your scarf looks fantastic, did you say where you got the pattern from? I will have to check - it's really beautiful.
Carousel / Pauline - I love your afghan, I will keep my eye out for the book at Spotlight and see if they have it (they do seem to have a few afghan and doily books).
BarbaraJean - are you going to update us with pictures soon? :)
Krystal - the Gerbera Daisy afghan looks amazing, you did so well with it - beautiful colour combinations, I really want to try that pattern! I vote pink for the border (love pink - the pink flower is beautiful), or even the same yarn you used around each square, or don't you want to do that?
Darski - there's nothing wrong with another WIP! :)
Ladycrochat / Debbie - how's your doily coming along?
Wildflwr / Deb - what about the moonflower afghan?

Finally! After much, much, much weaving in of ends (thanks much to whoever suggested the SHARP embroidery needle and a shout-out to my needle-threader-thingie!) I am finally finished with my Hidden Vines scarflette. :yay Sheesh, if I had know what a pain this thing was gonna be, but dagnabbit, I think it turned out pretty cute! I think I missed something with the scarflette base cuz I was supposed to make 8 roses and only made 6 and it still seems like too many and also, the "vines" seem a bit short, but that's okay! The colors in the overall picture are more accurate than the detail shot.

I can't believe it! I'm done, not only with my scarflette, but I'm very proud to say that after many years, I have finally graduated with my Bachelor of Fine Arts! Only took me 7 years off and on and squeezing out a couple of kidlets in between classes! That's why I've been so behind with my scarflette preparing for my portfolio show, but I've been weaving in madly since Monday, when I finished.
Where did you find this yarn? It's lovely! That'll be so pretty.
Yelutci, I got it all my yarn at Joann's, sorry for the late reply! It's Bernat Soft Satins and Caron's Simply Soft.
Krystal16: Love that afghan! So pretty! So soft-looking! And all those ends to weave in! Sheesh! (I must have ends on the brain, sorry!) But I love the variegated yarn in between.
Wildflr: Can't wait to see all those pretty posies put together!
Adri: I love your scarf, the colors are so pretty.
Carousel: Wow! I love all-white crochet and your motif looks so pretty and lacy, I wish I had the patience to do an afghan.
Whew! Lots of pretty stuff going on, can't wait to start my next project, now that I have some spare time on my hands!

Well, I finally got around to taking some pics of my afghan. Is there a way to upload pics here, or do they have to be posted somewhere else online? I don't want to put them on my blog or my mom will see them...
I only have 6 completed so far, but I'm keeping this mostly as a take-a-long project for the car. Time to hide the squares and the yarn until Tuesday - my mom is visiting tomorrow and can't let her see her present!!

angel, yes I did mention where I got the pattern from, but i'll say it again here so you don't have to go searching! It's from Vogue Knitting on the Go: Crocheted Scarves. So far I've made one other creation from this book, the loveknot shawl (super!). Interesting book, with around 5 or 6 scarves I like enough to want to make!
Krystal, your afghan is amazing! Excellent colour combination. Very, very pretty.

Michelle, it's so hard to recommend a book on such a specific topic because if you like the patterns or not really depends on personal taste. As I said, there are quite a few that I like and am planning on making, while others are, for me, hideous! However, if you are open to diverse scarf styles and substituting yarns to make a scarf more to your liking, then yes, I would recommend this book!

Hi Everyone!
Sorry I haven't updated in a while. I don't really have too much to update on my gerbera daisy afghan for my sister though. I have changed my idea of making 40 squares total due to me starting this project so late. I didn't think I would be able to finish it in time if I stuck with the 40 square idea so I changed it to "a dozen daisies"...haha! :lol I just hope that I can finish this all up within the week in order to get it mailed to her in time (before Oct 12). I finished making the dozen daisy squares already and right now I'm adding on a multi-colored border around each square (Red Heart- Pinata) that I think will compliment each daisy color. ? (I hope its not TOO bright).... After I do each border on the squares I will stitch them all together then think about a wide border around the entire blanket to make it larger. I found a couple of nice borders online and just need to figure out which one looks nicer. :think This is my first real afghan made by crocheting squares together, so I am learning as I go. ! Its been really fun so far, though I am stressing that I won't finish in time.
Here's a pic of all 12 squares...just lined them up for the photo. Not stitched together yet.

Here's a photo that shows the colorful border around each square. Only finished 6 of them so far.

Jen,
You could also do several rounds around each square in the pinata. Space them out further, THEN do a border to make it bigger?
I am doing the border from Coats & Clark Sunrise Sunset pattern, and really LOVE it. It's very simple, but it's really adding a nice touch to my afghan. You could do the pinata as the main color, then the green as the accent color....
I am into the clusters on my border - have to finish that round of clusters, then think I have one or two more rounds of the main color. I used the light purple for the cluster. I had my daughter tell me which color yarn she liked better. She thought it was an offhand question (I do a lot f those), she had no idea she was choosing the accent of an afghan she doesn't know exists!
I'll have a picture in a few days! (Of course, don't look at the back because I wasn't weaving as I went on THIS one)....
:D

VERY cute! I love that color, it's very mellow....sort of like the ocean at some tropic resort!
I am STILL working the border on the Gerber Daisy afghan. It's getting a bit wavy on me, and I'm getting aggravated! I will go back tomorrow to see if I messed up the pattern, but I don't think so... It didn't start until I added the sc,tr,sc between the clusters, and I'm hoping the next two rows after tame it down.
I RE-started the daisy afghan for my second daughter. The old one is still there, all 13 squares - it will be resurrected as a lapghan or something when I have the time. It's great, because the squares come out perfectly flat and even, and they're really easy to sew together. Add to that, my method requires VERY little of sewing in ends...only 1 or two per square, and that's with 4 colors! I sorta designed the square with my loathing of ends in mind. :D
So, I'm getting there - slowly, slowly, slowly.
OH! Forgot to add that I ran out of the light purple after putting the border on the Gerber afghan, needed more of it for my "Daisy" afghan.....well, went into my yarn closet, and lo and behold there's *3* skeins of yarn (a different kind) that I picked up in a LOT box that match quite well. Since it's for a whole different afghan, I only needed CLOSE, not exact! YAY! More of my stash used!
(Saves me running to the store, too.)

I LOVE flowers so I am sure I will be back soon with another flower project and will join in some more then. I love seeing everyone else's projects and getting inspired by many!
I still need to sew in some ends but after that it will be done! The finished blanket size ended up being approx. 42" x 54". Thanks for looking....I hope to be back real soon with another flower project! :hook

I figure that I can add a few extra rows if I need to, but, wanted to have a bigger flower, and not have to add tooooo many rows. This one is for my oldest daughter. I have had to restart the afghan I don't know how many times...she keeps changing her mind. Well, Now I have made up my mind, and this is going to be the pattern, lol!!
I can't wait to see more of your flowery items!!!

Yay! OK, I remade the first square, using a K hook.I added 2 more rows of dc to make it a 12". I have all of my centers done. (well, 11, I may add 3 more, plus the first square) And completed one more flower. I'm doing this in assembly line order, lol. Hopefully that will keep them all about the same size.
I will post again when I have all of the daisies done!!!!!

I just finished reading this mini article on How to weave in ends (http://crochet.about.com/library/bl_weave_ends.htm) and I discovered that I've been doing it all wrong :eek
LOL I usually take a smaller hook and pass the yarn in and out of the crocheted fabric... how does everyone else weave in??
I like the way this tutorial suggests to weave in one direction and then the other... yes, that way you use up more yarn but it also seems like a method that would take a lot longer to unravel!
Krystal16
October 12th, 2006, 03:52 PM
Adri, I have come up with my own way to weave in ends, and I absolutely love it. It does not work for everything, but here it is, if I can describe it well:
Take your finished off end and put your hook through the back loop only of the next stitch, from top to bottom. Hook the end over and pull it through, having the end stick up through the middle of the next stitch. Then put your hook in the NEXT stitch, and do the same with the end again. I do this for about four or five stitches, then I just work over it with the next color on the next round/row. There is no way this is coming undone, and it doesn't require a tapestry needle. It also requires a lot less excess yarn to be used when finishing off, as you never have to get a needle on it. I just work over it until I think I've done enough, then snip off the last bit of end. Voila! Work as you go, plus it's secure.

I just wanted to put in a quick update - my current "Flower CAL WIP" is at a stand-still but I will try and get back to it soon...I may scrap the blanket design and use the squares to make a little baby block and start a new blanket, I am not sure yet.
The blanket I finished was given at the baby shower last Saturday but I was unable to attend, so sent it with my sister. I didn't hear anything from the mother-to-be and I was a little bit grumpy about that but I heard from her yesterday and she was very appreciative and thankful for it, so I feel my effort was not wasted :) I will try and make a few more things for the baby before she arrives (or after, if that's how it works out), perhaps with a floral theme to match the blanket.

YAY!!!!! I have finished all 16 daisies! (the measure to be 8")2 squares are completed, so that leaves 14 more to go! Hopefully it wont take to long. The joining may take me a while. No, I'm not wanting to hurry it or anything, I'm just excited, lol. I'm finally getting somewhere with more WIPS! WOO HOO!!! I have my other daughters ghan to do, and quite a few more...........so, I'm on a roll, and very happy about it!
So, how are ya'll coming along? Also, thanx for the joining tips. I will still probably go with Drews joining.........but we will soon find out, lol! I hope you guys are having fun!

Well, I've finally gotten back to my daisy afghan. :cheer
I am hoping to get the 10th square done today, that would make two whole rows done and joined. Then I can take a pick to show y'all.
I have found it is a problem showing your stuff to non-crocheters. They always want one of what you're showing them. Well, I made this afghan that I didn't like, so I abandoned it at about 6". Then decided to turn it into scarf to give to someone. Then everyone that saw it wanted one like it. So, I said a ridiculously high (for an acrylic scarf) price, just to sorta scare them away....AND GOT 4 REQUESTS!!! Then that turned into someone wanting a hat to match, and a couple extra baby hats for the GD for her....and I got derailed from my projects. Now I'm trying to catch back up and get on track so I'm not behind for Xmas....
So, hopefully I'll have a pic for you guys tomorrow...if my power stays on, that is!

Ok, I give... what is Drew's joining?
BarbaraJean
October 15th, 2006, 11:27 PM
Ok, I give... what is Drew's joining?
I don't know that the method can be contributed to Drew. Maybe he can tell us where it first originated. There is a method I use for joining motifs now which I learned on a previous afghan. You crochet the motif to the previous motif as you go. I learned it from the Prairie Star Afghan pattern. You can view or download the Prairie Star pattern here (http://www.*********************/free-patterns/Prairie-Star-LW1295.pdf#search='prairie%20star%20afghan') for free. That way you can see it described better than I can explain it. ;) It sounds complicated but it is extremely easy once you get it going.
And for people like me who hate to sew it is a great way to actually enjoy motif afghans.
Take a look at the scrapghan (http://www.crochetville.org/forum/showthread.php?t=35182) I made for Losingmymind2's project for patients with head injury. Scroll down a few posts and you'll see a close up picture I posted to show how this method looks.
darski
October 16th, 2006, 03:18 AM
Oh, ok, I used that for the tumbling blocks - same motif as the prairie star. I like it but it does mean you can't make tons of squares now and join later.
Although you could save your last round and do that
Thank you for letting me know.
sallenlouise
October 16th, 2006, 04:57 AM
To be more exact, I'm using the Dudassembly.(dont know a whole lot about different joining methods, lol) I'm not sure if it's new or what, lol, I just know it looks pretty! Thanx for the link BarbaraJean! That is so pretty.
Ok, I have news! I have completed 12 out of 16 squares! YAY!!!!
Woo Hoo! I'm grinning like the Cheshire cat...(however it is spelled!)
Hopefully by tonight I cant start the joining process! Yeah, I know, I could have started that already.........but it didn't fit in with the assembly line, lol!
I'm using a size K hook, and only had to add 2 extra rows of DC.
So round 7 is now round 9! (which is only sc, and I used black for that....it makes it really stand out!) The completed square measures to be 13". So ot bad at all!
Any of you who like flowers, this is really a fun square to make! Also, the fact that I have this many done so soon, is really awesome for me! I do not crochet as fat as I would like. (BUT, I'm a heck of a lot faster than 6 months ago!)
I hope you guys are having a much fun as I am! Also, I hope your projects are coming along well! I'm off to bed, it's pouring here,so I shouldn't really be on here anyway, lol!
Have a great day!

Krystal, your afghan is looking *fantastic*! It looks pretty compact, that is not very open stitches, so it will come out warm.
Thanks to a huge train delay, I got lots of work done on my flower motif scarf! Now I'm on the last row. I'm really enjoying working with this merino wool and am planning on making a hat and wrist warmers with the same two colours (unfortunately they have nothing floral about them so I'll only post them in "show and tell"..)

OK, I have two NEW things to report. (Boy, do I have CADD!!!!)
http://www.synergy4results.com/images/scarfflower.jpg
Here is a scarf I made for a friend of mine. It's actually a strip from a MAM, but I turned it into a scarf.
http://www.synergy4results.com/images/harvest.jpg
This is a scrap-ghan I am making, all in fall colors. I sorted out my stash by hue, and had a whole grocery bag of balls and small skeins of autumn colors, so I figured WHY NOT? I'm absolutely LOVING this! It's a real open pattern, as you can see - it goes quickly, just those pesky ends to deal with. It's supposed to have really planned-out blues and look like delft, but I'm just looking into the bag to see what I want to use next, then putting on the next round or two. I made it join as you go, too. It's supposed to be slip stitched with a hook, but I'm not doing that!!!!
Still have my others in progress, so..... I'm still here!
BarbaraJean
October 20th, 2006, 03:50 PM
Krystal, the Fall colors are just so nice together!
I cit my thumb Monday on a food slicer. That put a break on my crocheting. Yesterday I cut my pointer finger with the slicer. And I was being soooo careful! :angry I don't suppose I'll be making much progress for a while.

I have SO many WIPs right now, I think I must be insane. What do I think when starting a new project? I REALLY need to finish some!
I am enjoying the autumn scrapghan, and I think I know why - it's constantly a challenge for me to dig in the bag and find the next right color for the square to balance out what I've got. I am just going to keep on going until I've either run out of yarn or the darn thing gets too big! With the pattern being this open, I have a feeling that grocery bag of yarn is going to go a long way!

Oh, no! Not you Krystal! Another person from these boards (don't want to mention names) emailed me and told me I shouldn't be emailing you for a pattern, etc., etc.
Krystal16
November 7th, 2006, 07:58 PM
Well, whoever it was needed to get their facts straight, because you did nothing wrong. You emailed me to find the LINK, not the pattern. I emailed you the addy of the woman who made the pattern, NOT the pattern. And, if I'm not mistaken, the pattern said on the bottom that it was OK to distribute, but since I'm not 100%, and I don't have MY copy, I obviously couldn't.
I have had several people ask me where I've gotten patterns, or how to link to them, etc. There is nothing wrong with that - in fact, I prefer the emails and/or PMs like that, as I don't always get to the boards to see each post.
In the future, to save from anyone getting REALLY FUNNY about things, be distinct between asking FOR the pattern (even when referring about a request) and asking WHERE TO GET the pattern. *I* knew what you were asking, and so did you, but the person who jumped in did so without knowing all of the facts. Being careful about copyright is OK, but that's bordering on a witch hunt.
If I hear from the WOMAN WHO WROTE THE PATTERN about the PATTERN THAT YOU ASKED ME ABOUT, then I will let you know what she says. Hopefully if you hear from her first, then you will let me know her answer.
In the meantime, there are similar squares at www.crochetpatterncentral.com and you can look at the 12" ones especially. I also have a daisy square that I'm offering to people - just go to my blog and see if it's something you'd like.

Thanks so much, Krystal. Please understand that I really don't want to upset anybody. I will admit that I am sort of a "newbie" and I'm not too familiar yet with the rules. Thanks for the recent link - I will definitely check it out and I'm so very sorry if I've made anybody upset. All I want to do is crochet, crochet and crochet!!!! I'm very happy to be here!:cheer

Lauri -
I got a response to my email from MaryEllen, did you? :think
By the way everyone, I got a bunch more squares done this weekend, and I was hoping to get caught up doing 2 a day, but it sort of takes me my maximium time every day just to do one....if I do more, the rest of my life falls apart! LOL! So, I'm just plugging along, except that I ran out of watercolor yarn last night. I'm going out Thursday AND Saturday, so I will be buying more of that and the black for my sons' birthday (that I also just ran out of). I will probably do the center rounds of the squares the next few days (hopefully two a day) and then just catch up doing the outside border rounds when I get teh yarn.
How is everyone else coming along?

I've made a few more motifs but haven't attached them yet. It's really slow going with a finger that hasn't completely healed yet.
Don't you just hate running out of yarn in the middle of a project. :blink
Thanks for the warm welcome, BarbaraJean!
You're welcome!

Well, got to the yarn store today and got more yarn. :cheer
Mom came in with another skein of yarn I needed for another project (coupons, coupons!) so I'm good for a little bit. Will be back out on Saturday getting more yarn, as I know I will need more of the watercolor.
Just got volunteered to make another scarf by 11/28. Not a big deal, but already behind. Since it was DH that volunteered me, can't really complain too much.

OK, ladies - we're SLIPPING!!! The last post was 10 days ago! OH MY!
But, I *DO* have news to report... I finished my Gerber afghan! Yep, border and all (well, except those pesky ends.....)! It's still pretty wonky, even the border, but I can't take a picture until Monday when my daughter goes to school and won't see! Once I work in the ends, I'll wash and dry it and it will be a little more tame.
Oh, and I have 30 out of 35 squares done on the daisy afghan! I hope to finish it by this coming weekend - at least the squares - then I'll do a similar border as my other daughter's afghan.
So, how is everyone else coming along?
Oh, Lauri - did you find the pattern yet? I have an email address that someone else tried as well, so maybe you used an old email address of Mary Ellen's. PM me and I'll give you her email address so you can get the pattern. I should have asked her if it could be posted here, or somewhere, or just shared, but I forgot - maybe you could ask her if she'd allow that?
Let's hear it, flower ladies!

:2blush I imagine that there are a lot of Christmas distractions. I've done very little work on my daisy baby blanket.
I've made a couple scarves and have been working on a few other projects. I will be concentrating my efforts on my church afghan this week.
But... I'm really going to have to get this daisy blanket finished as the baby is due in March. I'm finding that I'm not enjoying it as much since I injured my finger. The finger is healing beautifully but is still quiet tender and I bump it a lot when crocheting. :blink

Yes, I finally got around to taking pictures of my "Flower Motif" scarf!!! It has been finished for a few weeks and I've been getting lots of wear out of it. I really like it. The merino wool is very soft on my neck and I never notice yarn poking out of it.... Here it is:

OK, my squares are DONE for the daisy, but I can't put it together in front of my kids lest they get suspicious. Right now, they think I'm making squares for my charity blanket, but if they see me putting all the ones *I* made together, they'll figure something out.
I'm moving onto another blanket that's in progress - I'll sew the squares together tonight. I have 2 rows to sew together, so hope I can get them done between the time they go to bed and the time my eyes cross!
I'm in the HOME stretch!

Hello everyone,
I just spent a lot of time looking through your gorgeous, beautiful projects. Although I haven't participated before, this has me excited. I'm not sure where to begin, there is so much inspiration here that deciding is the hardest part. I would like to do the Gerbera Daisy but I can't find the pattern from the link. Does anyone know of another link?
Also, what is the Daisy afghan for charity? Sorry if this is explained somewhere else, there's just so much information and I lost track of it.
Thanks,
Darlene

Hi cuker, welcome aboard. We Darlenes have to stick together. if you click on Krystals link right above your post, you will find the information and can request the pattern from her.
it is a great pattern and the price is really reasonable as well - cost = one square donated back to Krystal.

Darlene (the new one ;) )
If you email this lady, MARY ELLEN [mariyel@verizon.net] she is the designer of the Gerber Daisy Pattern. I have emailed her for my copy of the pattern, and she replied with it.
The daisy square for charity is just that. I designed a square, and anyone can have the pattern. I just ask that each person who receives the pattern send me one COMPLETED square that I am going to take and use in an afghan to donate to charity. You can email me at krochetkrystal@yahoo.com if you'd like the pattern.
Or check out the blog link at the bottom of my signature here if you'd like to see the squares I've received so far!

So..... we were nearly onto page 3.
I still have not taken pics, as kids seem to ALWAYS be around. How's everyone else's mad pre-holiday hook-ing going? I'm a little behind schedule, but still OK to make my deadlines if I don't lose too much more time. Have a lot of weaving left to do, though - I haven't been very good about doing it as I go lately. Bad me. I'll be feeling the pain next week, that's for sure.

OK, I have PICTURES!!! Believe it?
So, here is my Gerber Daisy afghan, ALL finished (except for the ends, that is). I have a close-up of the border here - I used the border from the Sunrise/Sunset afghan from Coats & Clark (a free pattern on their site). It got sort of wonky, but it looks sort of ruffly, so I didn't worry about it.
http://i120.photobucket.com/albums/o196/krochetkrystal/Afghans/th_gerberborder.jpg (http://i120.photobucket.com/albums/o196/krochetkrystal/Afghans/gerberborder.jpg)

The above afghan pattern can be found by emailing the designer [mariyel@verizon.net] and requesting the pattern for "Ryann's Cuddle Cover".
This is my daisy afghan - made from my "charity" squares. This is the afghan I designed it for - It turned out exactly like I wanted it to. Again, swiped the border pattern off of another afghan pattern I have at home here in a book.
These two go in the same bedroom, that's why they match!

Honestly, I didn't count... Between the TWO blankets, I know I used one skein each of pink, blue, cornmeal and lilac (7 oz skeins). The background color is caron one pound, an I think I used two of those. The light green, I'm pretty sure I used about 10 of them. And probably about 15 of the variegated? I just kept working and buying as I went, since the colors I was using I didn't have to worry about dye lot..

I scanned the picture of the daisy sqare I did. The colors are a bit off though in the pic. The green looks like puke on the scanned picture, but it looks better in person. lol It's actually the Spring Green in SS.
My niece wanted it done in these bright colors. I didn't know if I'd like it, but I actually do like it in the pinks and greens.
You can see the square in the link here (http://honeybearshaven.com/crochet/kaylasquare.jpg).

Ok, I started this irish rose afghan probably a year ago. I found the pattern here http://crochet.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?zi=1/XJ&sdn=crochet&zu=http%3A%2F%2Fhometown.aol.com%2Flffunt%2Firishr ose.htm. I love the pattern and I think the afghan is coming out beautifully, but I hate hate hate joining squares and haven't been able to find the motivation to finish it. I have done 5x7 squares alread and I think 7x9 should do it, so I'm more than halfway done. I'm hoping joining this CAL will help me muster up the energy to get it done. Here are some pics of what I've already completed. That site had a different companion square, but I wasn't crazy about it, so I came up with this one instead.

I do like that.
The flowers pop! and the rose gets its say now.
The pale blue fades and lets the other two have the limelight but you need something to take a back seat in a square.
Yeah, I could do this one. The other was nice too but I find this a stronger statement.

Hi Kahud, yes I like that one much better. Very nice pattern. Why do you have to be up late?
there is nothing better than sitting on the sofa watching a great movie and doing your crocheting with snacks nearby.

Kahud - you've done a great job. I ALWAYS like dark to light, then a dark border. Pulls your eye to the center, like Darski said.

This is my daisy afghan - made from my "charity" squares. This is the afghan I designed it for - It turned out exactly like I wanted it to. Again, swiped the border pattern off of another afghan pattern I have at home here in a book.
These two go in the same bedroom, that's why they match!

Rene,
The Gerber Daisy Pattern is one I got online, but the site is since down... I have emailed the owner of the pattern, and she has sent it to me. If you PM me, I can give you the designer's email addy.
The light green looks like 'Frosty Green'
Krystal16
December 31st, 2006, 07:57 PM
OK, yes - the light green is Frosty Green, and the variegated is Watercolor.
I have no actual idea how much of each color I used.... what I put there is my best approximation - for BOTH afghans.
My girls LOVED them! My 3YO calls it her flower princess blanket, the older (8) just cuddles it in bed. I didn't get the oldest's completely woven, but she's still using it. Now you've reminded me I have to finish it - out of sight, out of mind, I guess.
The only color I didn't like was the blue - it was too bright. But I couldn't find a more country blue that I was looking for, so just used what I had.

Here it is with the colors blue reversed. I did this one in a bigger hook and tweeked the center
a tad.

Krystal, I am wondering if you have thought of using your "daisy" technique to make a snowflake?
I have been trying to do one but I didn't like the snowflake that I tried. For the sake of staying on topic... we'll call them snowdrops since that is a flower but we all know what it is really about. :heehee

Darski -
I haven't really! I just finished a snowflake afghan - did you see my "Snow Crystals" afghan post in home decor? It was quite simple to do, and looks quite like a snowflake to me!
But, I don't see why you couldn't do a snowflake like that, except you'd have to have a more solid background instead of chaining behind the snowflake. And then figure out how to chain the snowflake behind the background. Have at it - I'm not in a mood to "create" at this point!

Thought I'd share a picture of the project I posted about before Christmas:
...I've started to work on a floral wrap using this pattern:
http://elann.com/ShowFreePattern.asp?Id=176024
So far so good. I'm using Jo Sharp's DK cotton in black, and both the pattern and the yarn are easy to work with.
Here's my first floral motif ~

I've made six so far and I'm having fun.

Inkberry, that is a very pretty motif. You will have a very exotic scarf/stole when you are done. The black is a nice choice for that - bit of glimmer I see

Barbara Jean - I remodeled my kitchen (no walls or ceiling - just studs and vents) 3 years ago, the summer I was pregnant with baby #4. When I HAD her, the weather turned freakishly cold and was 8 degrees the week we brought her home, we had to tarp off half of the house so that we could keep the heat in the rest of the house. My entire kitchen was stacked in my living room (which is only 13x15) and it was only 30 degrees in the kitchen if I needed to get anything from the fridge.
Company would come to see the baby and have to stand, as there was NO ROOM for anyone to sit! I feel your pain - it will pass, as soon as that drywall dust goes (in like 3 months!)...

Oh my! We are just replacing cabinets, counter, sink, stove, microwave hood and new paint and wallpaper. :clawhamme Ben is working so hard! The stove was ordered yesterday so we won't get it until the 16th. I'm definitely going to have to have my carpet cleaned when this is all over.

I'm constantly amazed at how my husband can do just about anything! He's doing a great job! He's got the top done - had to cut some ceramic wall tile to fill in some spaces. He on the sink cabinet now and that seems to be the biggest challenge so far.

Well, BarbaraJean - it sounds like you're either going to have to change plans and get the baby something new, or give a picture of the afghan. If I have to do that, I usually take a close-up picture of the afghan and give it to the mother like a gift certificate. Tell her you'll get it to her before the baby is born. It won't be quite the same, but she'd only have to store it until then anyway!
Unicorn - that afghan is VERY pretty! I love how bright and cheerful it is!
