Oh, thank you, ladies! I appreciate your encouragement. I just made a few more squares and ran in here to check this thread.

I'm finished for today though. My family is taking me out for dinner this evening so I'm going to go get my shower.

I'm trying to take your suggestion, Krystal. Of course, we're working hard on the kitchen remodeling too.

85 of 108 squares complete! Lord willing.... :yay

Krystal16
January 13th, 2007, 11:15 AM
BarbaraJean - you're even CLOSER! Now you only have 13 squares to do, and it's still 7 days away! If you do 4 squares a day, you'll be done in three days, and then plenty of time for a border and a beautiful wrapping job. Just keep the yarn packed up so you can do it in the car ifyou're the passenger. Get every last minute out of your time!

But...

hehehe
its row4 see it and tell me if you under stood !!!
i know how to work around the sts but i didnt understand what the auther wanted us to make
i read it 100000000000times to figure whats my problem but discovered its her problem in describing a pattern

Krystal16
January 14th, 2007, 02:17 PM
Well, I've got my yarn out and my hook... going forth to tackle that challenge...

Krystal16
January 14th, 2007, 02:32 PM
OK, I've got it.

If you look at the back of the book, on page 143, it instructs you "how" to work around stitches - basically your hook goes down a row (or two) and you insert it from the front, yarn over in the back, then bring the hook back up to the current row. Another way of saying this is that you're going to be working in the row BELOW the row you would usually be working in. So, in round 3 you do all SC. But in round 4, you are actually going to be inserting your hook into the dc and ch-1 sps of round *2*, by working "around" or skipping all of the stitches on row 3. You ignore the row completely - they act like spacers.

does that make sense?

:think
i think it does 10% sence
can someone come here to kuwait and show me :D
just kidding
i`ll see page143 and tell you my problem
can`t we just work normally without LDC :no

Krystal16
January 14th, 2007, 05:07 PM
q8
Yes, you have to do the LDC, as that is the color separation between the petals. Sorry, but I'm not thinking of travelling to the middle east at this point...I can post pictures, though!

Perhaps I'll make little purses for my girls (2 squares each) with a little bit of lining inside just to get it off my WIP/UFO list :lol

I recently added this flower to a beret I'd crocheted a couple years back:

I'm not a beret person, but that is cute! They look good on some people (definitely NOT me!). I did finish the daisy charity ghan a couple weeks ago - I have a couple others to work on, just want to get a few other WIPs out of the way. Maybe I'll work on one the beginning of each month? The last one went together in less than a week, but I think this one I'll slow down a bit with it. Once I get my Windsor Afghan done, I'll probably use it as a fill-in between my Blue Star.

I wasn't in the mood to do flowers when this CAL was going hot & heavy.. but now I am. (my contrarianism coming to surface :D)

Here's the afghan I'm currently working on (this picture is actually about 2 rows ago.. I'm a little further along, but not much):

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v639/Lisaizme/AfghansInProgress/th_MVC-009F.jpg (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v639/Lisaizme/AfghansInProgress/MVC-009F.jpg)

The pattern is at:http://megan.cc/RosesBlanket/

I'm using Caron Simply Soft in Violet Rose, Autumn Red as the A colors
Soft Pink as B
Dark Sage as C
Off White as D

For those who don't like Octagons, but do like the Roses; This is ALMOST the same pattern:

http://www.angelfire.com/folk/celtwich/Charlestongarden.html

I've gone through and read the instructions and they are very very similar.

Sometime later I want to make a blanket with this Magnolia blossom pattern:

www.dazzled.com/cromusings/cmfreepats/cmafghansquarespats/magblossq.html

but not in simply soft.. it needs a yarn with more "oomph" or "body".

Oh, I love that Magnolia square! I did mine in my scarflette in Bernat Softee
Chunkee and I've done it before with Wool-Ease. I think the bernat will wash up better, but the wool-ease was kinda nice because it was a bit fuzzy.

I'd put it under designer patterns, but it's not MY design...

The designer of the Ryann's Cuddle Cover and Gerbera Daisy Square has put both on a webpage for easier access:

Decided to make my mum a flower scarf, this is a picture of the flowers Iam doing.

:flower

Using disney wool, as I like the colours, 15 in total. Have to finish the yellow and oranges ones off.

http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u150/krazy-kitty-album/Clothing/flowersforscarf.jpg

Havn't decided if I should just join up the flowers to make a scarf, or to crochet a narrow green scarf and randomly stitch the flowers on add in a few leaves.

This flower bookmark was a mistake, was trying to replicate a flower throw and went wrong, but it was so nice i couldn't bring myself to undo it, so made a long row of single crochets and turned it into a bookmark. Will also give this to my mum as well.

I have just started ANOTHER afghan... it's daisies (not my pattern) from the "Crocheter's Garden of Afghans" book. The pattern is called "Grandmother's Lace"..

Is there anyone out there doing something with flowers in it, that would like to jump-start this CAL back into life? I'll be here for a good month with this one!

Hi Krystal!
I will join you!! I'm working on an afghan for my mom's 65th birthday. I'm making the Carons "Rose Trellis" afghan pattern that I found on the Michaels website. Here's the link:
http://www.michaels.com/art/online/projectsheet?pid=24059

I've finished 2 of the squares already. I didn't do the last row on them because I'm not sure how I will be joining them all together yet. I still want to just keep it at 12 squares to make it "A dozen roses" theme and I may have to either make plain filler squares to add in or just add on a large border around the 12 roses to make the afghan larger. :think For now, I concentrating on finishing the 12 rose squares first. I really love how the roses look 3Dish. It is much prettier than I expected. :manyheart I will be working away at this to make sure I finish it in time to mail it up to her for her birthday by Sept. 25th! I'll update as I go along and will keep checking back in to see if anyone else has joined us!

Looking forward to seeing your progress on the Grandmothers Lace afghan!! :cheer

Hi, Anyone still out there??! Thanks for the nice comments from all of you. Hope to see some other posts/updates soon! I always love seeing what everyone else is working on. I've been chugging away at this Rose Trellis lapghan squares since I first posted. I have only 3 more squares to finish and I will have the dozen roses crocheted!! I decided that I'll join them all together as in the pattern instead of doing something different. I found a border edging that I saw that I think would look so pretty with these squares so I think I'll be doing that. It will allow me to add a ribbon all around the entire afghan too and ends with scallopped edge. In case you notice in the photo that the roses aren't the same size, well I did that on purpose. I thought up a smaller rose to go along with the large ones. Both are 3Dish and I hope they look nice next to the original big ones. Just like in real life, you have roses that are more closed and some that are more open and that is the effect I was going for I guess.

Heres a pic of what I've done so far. 9 done and 3 of the small roses to go!! When I'm done with the last 3 I will reorder them so it goes big rose, small rose, etc...I just threw these down to give an idea of what its looking like so far. I hope to be finished with this whole thing by next Wed so that I can package it up and mail up to my Mom in time for the big b-day!! :hook

The Granny Lace afghan that I had started for the charity thing turned out to be too pretty, so I decided to keep it. Only thing is that NOW that I don't have a deadline, and it's for me, it is going to get put to the end of the line. I have my blue star to finish for myself, then this one can get finished...

I finally finished the Rose Trellis afghan for my moms 65th bday. I mailed it out yesterday and so she will get it tomorrow. I can't wait to hear from her when she opens it up!! I hope she will love it!

I ended up joining the squares together by following the pattern. It really surprised me how quick and easy the joining went along. I bet it would look nice with lots of other squares too so I'll have to remember that for the future. :hook This is only my 2nd afghan made by squares so I'm still learning as I go. I am so happy that I went ahead and did this pattern for my mom. I think it is so beautiful. :manyheart A dozen red roses for her that will last forever!

Thanks to everyone for all the nice comments! I'm sure that I'll be checking back in soon with another floral project to crochet! I love flowers....so this thread is one of my favorites here at Crochetville!
