Ok, so I'm trying to suck up to my father-in-law who I have never met. My husband and I have been married 5 1/2 months but his father is working overseas and hasn't been able to take a trip to the states. I'd like to make something special for him for when he comes to visit. My husband says to make an afghan of the Norsk (Norway) flag for him because that's where they are from. Most of you talented people would just crochet it without a pattern b/c it's a pretty simple flag, but I am not that learned in crochet skills just yet. Does anyone know where I can get a pattern for the Norwegian flag?? Please and thanks!

I will try to help you... I am no expert, but I did this...
google norway's flag, right click the image and save it to your computer as a .jpg file, go to http://www.microrevolt.org/knitPro/ (http://www.microrevolt.org/knitPro/), scroll down to "Grid size:" and change it to "XL (120w x 160h)", leave "Stitch size:" on "Needlepoint, Cross Stitch, Crochet (1:1)" then go to "Process this file:" and click on browse, find the picture of the flag you saved on your computer, click on "submit", it will give you a chart, do a swatch using the yarn you are going to use for the project to see if it will give you the correct size that you would like, if it doesn't you will need to add/delete stitches/rows as necessary.
If this is too confusing, maybe someone with more experience doing this type of thing can help you better.

Of course your husband probably knows about this, but... In this flag-crazy country, not everyone would approve of an afghan that was the American flag (because it gets dirty, falls on the floor, whatever). If there's any chance your FIL would feel that way about the Norwegian flag, maybe it would be safer to do a simple afghan using the colors of the flag? (Easier for you, too!) A ripple or stripe in those colors could be very classy and effective.

I didn't think of that! Thanks for the thought!

InStitches-
If you are going to do a ripple with the flag colors, I found this one and it works up super fast and is very easy to do. The only draw back is that I did mine in 3 colors and there were alot of loose ends to weave in. It really didn't take to long once I sat and did it but it looks like alot more than there really is.
Anyway, here's the site for the free pattern.

Good Luck!
