I am looking for who made those flip flops with the eyelash yarn? I just did 2 sets today and wanted to post it in my blog, giving credit for the idea to who had the idea. Please let me know! I hope I have the right board haha. I only go to 2 crochet boards :b

Marlo did the flip-flops. Her blog is That Girl (http://www.marloscrochetcorner.com/blog/).

Can someone please post a little bit on how to start these?? I have my flip flops and my eyelash yarn sitting here and I can't seem to get it started.

Thanks,

Hi Ro, I did a sc around the rubber toe parts (or whatever your toe part is made of). Get your slip knot on your hook, and keeping the yarn above the rubber part, put your hook underneith, yarn over and pull up a loop...yarn over and draw thru 2 loops for your single crochet. Continue around - I kept pushing my stitches down to keep it tight. If you've ever crocheted around a hair tie, it's the same idea :)

Hope this makes sense, Im trying to type while rocking my little one in my other arm to sleep.

Thanks Chelle!!!
Immediately after I typed that post I grabbed my goods went and sat out back where it was nice and quiet and figured it all out. This was alot of fun. I even had to paint my toenails to match after I finished them both. You can see the pictures here (http://www.yarnicopia.com/gallery/). I just uploaded them to my gallery.
Thank you to you and to marlo for the inspiration. Just looking at both your photos was what prompted me to "I just gotta try this!" mode. I wore them to party tonight and they were quite the conversation piece. Now I need to buy more flip flops!

I made my own flip flops this afternoon. I'm not sure where or even if I will wear them, but I had to have a pair. I'm sure I was the best dressed woman to walk to the mailbox in my neighborhood today! <img border=0 src="http://img28.photobucket.com/albums/v84/crochetville/nahnahbooboo.gif" />

I think I'm going to have to give these a shot!

Can anyone give me an idea of how much yarn you used for a pair? I'd like to make a pair for my friend & each of her 3 girls.
I thought it would be fun to mail her those and a bottle of coordinating polish so they can have matching tootsies :-)

She's going through chemo now, we live in different states and I feel so helpless not being able to do things for her. I have shipped a bunch of hats to her though!

Cute idea! It took less than half the eyelash/fun fur yarn I would say...so you could probably do 3 sets easily with one ball, which are 1 1/2 oz each.

Julie, I'm going to have to post a pic of mine I just made, same style shoes, just with dark blue edging and blue fun fur! I made some for my mom and she says they look like house shoes. :scratchchin The straps are so soft with the fur, I love my pair!:bigsmile

Thanks ladies! I didn't stitch close together but let the sc spread out a little. I'm not a big 'fluff' fan, but I do like these. As soon as someone tells me what size my niece wears, I'm making a pair for her, too. We have a family trip to Michigan coming up in mid-June, I'll give them to her then and I suppose I will take mine too. She'll love dressing up like her Aunt Julie (my niece is 6 and lives in Florida).

Holly, that's a great idea for your friend, I'm sure she'll love it!

I bought some eyelash yarn not long after I first saw the flip flops when I first joined up---I did not get a pair of them until yesterday though and made them last night. I had to go out and drop Suzie off at work and pick up two more skeins or yarn and HAD to wear them!!!!! They are great! Thanks for the wonderful idea!!:clap :cheer

I absolutely love this flip flop idea! I made myself and my neighboor a pair today. Wait until the ladies at our craft group see these. I will send them all to Marlo's place on the web!:bounce

Just thought you might want to know that the pattern is on the Lion Brand Yarn site.

There is a big controversy about this. Marlo feels Lion Brand borrowed the idea from her site and Lion Brand says they've been working on it for ages.

Personally, once one comes up with an idea as easy as this, how long does it take to execute and publish on line? I personally think Lion Brand really did borrow this one. :bigsmile

I agree with Sampler Lady.:bigsmile

Ever since Marlo posted her pattern, its been popping up at other websites who claim it was their idea. That can happen so easily with such a simple yet awesome pattern like this.

The ladies at the yarn store behind my house (how nifty is that? ah paradise :bounce ) have had that pattern since April, I believe. But I'm not sure where they got it from - I'll have to check. I know the pattern they used was originally a knitted I-cord for the flip flops, though, and it involves a furry yarn and another novelty yarn. The "controversy" down here was that they were the first store to showcase the product (which they did note was from a particular designer online, probably one who'd already borrowed the idea. sigh.) and then all of the other stores in town suddenly had the pattern and said it was their own (not noting the website it had come from). In any case, Lion Brand is such a big company it would be nice if they would at least acknowledge other sites as the initiators. I think it's a shame, since I believe that credit should be given where credit is due.
