does anyone have any tips?
People have asked for a pattern for the most recent of my shawls and I'm struggling to explain the decreases.
Can you take a look at this and tell me if it seems right to you.

Base Ch 87
ROW ONE
1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, *3 ch miss 2 ch, 1 sc into next 5 ch; rep from * to end , turn.
ROW TWO
sl st, sc, hdc, 2 dc into arch, *2 ch miss 2sc, 1sc, 2ch miss 2 sc, 5dc into next arch; rep from * to last arch then 2 dc, 1 hdc, 1 sc, sl st, turn
ROW THREE
3 Sl st , 2 sc, *3 ch 5 sp, 5 sc into dc; rep from * to decrease then 2 sc 2 sl st, turn.
ROW FOUR
4 sl st, sc, hdc, 2 dc into arch, *2 ch miss 2sc, 1sc, 2ch miss 2 sc, 5dc into next arch; rep from * to last arch then 2 dc, 1 hdc, 1 sc, sl st, turn

I'm not sure if all the slip stitches at the end of the row are just a waste of stithches, but I'm pretty sure I did them when i made the shawl.

I haven't written the pattern for the edging yet so ignore that.

Ok, to me, the instructions are a bit confusing. I have never crocheted anything using the type of graph you posted...so that didnt help me. The part where you say "3 ch miss 2 ch" had me very confused until I re read it over and over, then I think I finally got what it means....does it mean to chain 3 and skip 2 chains?

Then here: sl st, sc, hdc, 2 dc into arch...where is the arch? Is the arch the chain 3's? When writing a pattern, you have to write it out so simply that anyone who knows basic crochet can follow along very easily. I hope this helps! Also when writing something like "sl st, sc, hdc, 2 dc into arch" it helps to put the stitches in parenthasis for one stitch...like (sl st, sc, hdc, 2 dc) into arch..so you know it's all in one space or in the same stitch.

Im not sure what this means? 3 Sl st , 2 sc, *3 ch 5 sp...it helps to say exactly where each stitch goes...like sl st into the first (or next) 3 stitches, 2 sc in next stitch, chain 3...Im not sure what the 3 ch 5 sp means.

I hope this helps!! :) The shawl is absolutely beautiful and I hope to see it at crochet me!!

Jen,

I'm in the process of memorizing the Crochet International Symbols. Are you going to use them on your site? I think it's a good idea. You may have lots of crochet people all over the world wanting your patterns. Think of it! Wow!!! :woohoo

Jen, your shawl is gorgeous! I'd hoped I'd have time to look over the pattern today, but didn't. Chelle has given good suggestions. I love that you're including international symbols.

jen, how are you doing the symbolling?
That is to say, how are you drawing them?

on illustrator, I'm just making one of each thing then copying and pasting and skewing and rotating to get it to look right
