View Full Version : Is this hat too tight?

Hi,

I just made this hat for my daughter for the winter but I'm wondering if it's too tight on her. Her hat goes on well and she likes it but I'm wondering since it stretches so much and you can see holes all over the hat if it's too small? Maybe it will be too airy for winter? This is only the second winter hat she's had since she's only two so I'm not sure how winter hats should be I guess.

Thanks for the help!

That is such a cute hat! and a cute daughter!

I think it should be fine for the winter. Although if it's actively snowing or raining, you'd probably want something with a tighter weave. I found with my kids that as long as the hat is holding the hair snug to the head, that it's warm enough.

I love it, and I love the way it looks with the open stitches (your daughter is a cutie)
If it is comfortable for her it fits. Whether or not it will be warm enough for winter....well, there is winter and then there is OMG I'M FREEZING. It might only be good for the first, but thats ok. :)

Thanks so much for your help! I'll try and find another hat pattern so she has a warmer hat as well. I'm pretty sure this hat is sized for an adult woman's head but I know I crochet really tight even though I try not too, it's just the way I seem to crochet!
Off to find another pattern!

Thanks again :)

I have found that if you use two strands of yarn for hats, they are much warmer! Usually you can use the pattern you liked, but maybe watch your gauge by trying the hat on her every few rows. Then you can adjust from there!:hook

What about just make another and just make the crownslightly bigger? and then she'd have an awesome fall hat and a cute winter hat, that is the same but different

that hat is so cute! Love the color! She should be fine wearing it during the winter.

Looks lovely and it seems Sydney winters are so much milder - fashion is foremost as snow is out of the question!
