Hello friends & fellow crafters,

I am making the Open Capelet from the Leisure arts / Simply Soft Accessories booklet. I am not sure about something & wanted to ask before I plunge forward. I'm down to row 20 here. The past 3 rows have been just rows of SC's, totaling 196 sc's across.

Row 20 says to repeat another row, increasing 3 sts evently across; turn -- 199 sts.

So it sounds like I only increase by a total of 3 SC's in row 20 and it's just not specifying where to put them.

Or, it sounds like I increase by adding 3 to every SC across (evenly across), but their total count was wrong? :think

I wasn't sure which route to take. The pic looks as though perhaps it really does increase by putting 3 sc's in each sc across, but I wanted other opinions before I did this...

Thanks!

Hi Mermaiden

I'd definitely go with #1 -- increase a total of 3 sts in the row, ending with 199 sts.

I don't see how "increasing 3 sts evenly across" can be made to mean "increase 3 sts in every stitch across", and besides, they've given you the stitch count of 199 too.

What happens after this row?

Thank you. :) The next rows after this change up a lot -- and ends up with 181 dc's (18 ch-2), for the next few rows. So that makes more sense... adding only 3. Sometimes you just have to say things aloud before they make sense!
