My mom's subscription to Woman's Day magazine came today (the September 14th issue - already??). On page 92 there is an (abbreviated) article entitled "Hot Hobby, Cool Clothes", featuring knitting and crocheting. It comes complete with instructions for some scarves, a poncho, a hat and a felted clutch.
And that's my complete report. <img border=0 src="http://img28.photobucket.com/albums/v84/crochetville/veryhappy.gif" />

I found a great filet shawl pattern online from Woman's Day. I'm currently about a third of the way through it. I'm making it up for a coworker who is going through chemo for breast cancer. It's a surprise for her, before her next dose of chemo. I plan on jazzing it up, but crocheting beads onto the rose after the shawl is finished. I will post some pics once it's done!

Julie,
That would be the one!!! I just love it. I'm two skeins into it, using Patons Katrina in Dusk. I'll have to go get more from HL tomorrow. I was up till 3:30 this morning working on it. Started on it around 7:00 last night. I would have done more, but I ran out of yarn, and I was finally getting too tired to see my stitches well. Not to mention that itty bitty chart of the rose. (Yes, I did print out the larger version, but it's still small.) I love the Katrina yarn since it gives a bit of a sheen to the piece without being too glittery. My co-worker is an older woman who lives out in the country, and it's my guess that she doesn't go out clubbin too much to require anything too fancy. But this is just perfect for her for those days when her treatments have her feeling under the weather. I am so excited to get this done for her!
And, it seems that I'm the only one in my department that does any filet work. Even the woman that taught me to crochet won't do it, because she thinks reading the charts is too difficult. I say, BRING IT ON!!! I like a challenge, and this is actually very easy to do. I know that some people love granny-squares, but to me, those are blah. (Although, I did see one on someone's blog for the 63 Squares CAL that was interesting... Or maybe it was another project they were working on... Oh well.)
Ok, I think I've rambled long enough... <img border=0 src="http://img28.photobucket.com/albums/v84/crochetville/blahblahblah.gif" />

I made that one for my sister for her wedding.. It took me about three-four days to get it done. I had done it in patons grace thread.. It turned out really nice.. I have all my beads strung in the order that I need them to make mine next..
Its going to be a black with a red rose..

I had a hard time seeing the larger print on it too, when I had printed it out.. Here is an easier way to see it..
Go back to the site and than right click on the graph, than go to your word doc.. Paste it in there, and than inlarge it, by stretching it out to a full page than print off. You will be able to see it so much easier..
