Ok, friends, what do you think of that new magazine?
I haven't bought it or seen it other than online, but if it's any quality like Interweave Knits, love that publication, than I know it will be a hit! Also, here we are in, not exactly SMALL town of San Diego, and I can't find it in my travels to Target, WM, Joanns, Micheals, even a bookstore in a mall......I guess I'll try Border Books or ...what's that other one....drats can't think right now! the one with the coffee shop in it AH! Barnes & Noble...my daughter just remembered for me!.... anyway, I know I can get it online, but who doesn't like 'feeling' and looking at a magazine these days? They sure aren't getting any cheaper at $6.99 a pop! (need a smiley with the change coming out of the pocket!)

The issue doesn't come out until 7 September; that's why you haven't seen it. I can't wait to get it, though...

Whoops! Sorry to have to correct, but it's a good thing. Donna already bought the new issue, and <a href="http://www.yarntomato.com/archives/2004_08_01_ytarchive.html#109345544676947914" target="_new">blogged</a> about it, too. <img border=0 src="http://img28.photobucket.com/albums/v84/crochetville/clap.gif" /> Go forth and find the magazine!!! <img border=0 src="http://img28.photobucket.com/albums/v84/crochetville/ura1.gif" />

Yes, the Interweave web site says it's not available until Sept 7th, but my LYS had it when I went a couple of days ago. :yay2 :yay2

donna, how much was it? i don't have LYS and my local chains don't carry any of the crochet magazine - despite my repeated beggings....
i wonder if yours would ship it to me?
Donna
August 26th, 2004, 06:08 PM
They charged cover price, $7.99. My LYS doesn't have a web site or anything but I could check with them. You can also pre-order from Interweave here (http://www.interweave.com/knit/crochet.asp), and they will not charge your credit card until the mag is shipped to you. It is $7.99 there as well, but you probably would not receive until some time around Sept 7--but that is only 12 days away (:wha how did it get to be Sept already?!!).

oh man, i didn't realize it was so close. i'll order from the company - maybe if a bunch of us do, they will realize there is a real need in the crochet market:sheepjump
oh, and i found the pre-order page through your blog :thumbsup

I pre-ordered it with the intention of being in NC in September, but since I'm not, I will just have to wait for my mom to mail it to me.
yarntomato, aren't you the lucky girl?
Donna
August 26th, 2004, 09:04 PM
rebeccav, good idea! :thumbsup
pfirsch, I guess I am! :blush The crazy thing is, I hadn't even been thinking about it. I figured I'd get it when it came in to Barnes and Noble or whatever. I had thought about pre-ordering from the site, but I procrastinated about it. Sorry to hear I won't get to meet you in Sept! :cry

Eek! No worries about the correction, Julie. I'm so psyched that it's out already! I pre-ordered it, but I get things late up here in the great north. I'm psyched to hear what you all think of it.
Re: whether they'll get the picture that we need better crochet magazines, I have a feeling they're piloting. Interweave already publishes about a half dozen magazines; my guess is that they'll track sales of this issue to see if it may be viable as a stand-alone. Let's cross our fingers, eh?

IF I can find it here, I'll buy up a couple to send to folks who can't find it. My Wal-Mart did have the new Vogue Knitting mag today, the fall issue. Not sure how long it had been out, but was glad to see it as sign they were at least moderately current. Also a Crochet Fantasy magazine, the first time they've had one of those.

I just bought my copy today at my lys and was really impressed. It's the first crochet mag I've seen that has actually had numerous things I'd consider wearing. Normally I glance through the crochet magazines and see maybe one thing I'd consider making (and generally with numerous changes). I really hope that Interweave continues with this.

WOW! I'm glad I brought the subject up :lol
thanks for all the input everyone.....it just baffles me at times a city of this quality and size is lacking on these things! (also considering there is one (yes that is 1) yarn shop! (other than the others I mentioned way above!) Thanks for the input on the dates...I will start looking so yarn shops must of put advanced orders...I know I can order it at the website I get the interweave knits and love it, but I just wanted to look at it first. Plus if WM can get it then it's the 20% off....drats I'm so darn cheap!..opps I mean frugal.:sheep

I have not been able to find this anywhere in Rochester, NY--I have tried borders, barnes and noble, joannes, michaels, etc.... I refuse to order it online and pay shipping.

I would try the LYS instead of bookstores. I live in San Diego too, and I can't ever find any crochet stuff in bookstores. If you're in North County, The Black Sheep will probably have copies. I'm pretty sure they carry Interweave's other publications.

I bought my copy last night at Wal-Mart. I had to stop there after going to the state fair, since I broke my only H-hook while working on my daughter's poncho. I refused to write a check for a dollar and some change, so I cruised over to the magazine rack, and there it was!!! There's a lot of things that I would love to make, and I definitely want to try the tapestry crochet!! My only problem is that they used a lot of yarns in their patterns that I can't get locally. <img border=0 src="http://img28.photobucket.com/albums/v84/crochetville/crying.gif" /> I may have to take the credit card out of the freezer now...

Amy - DON'T do it! leave it on ice, girl! :wha (i'm a real budget stickler)
Tiff - i can't wait.... although, i did go the cheap route. instead of the cotton it suggests - my HL had RH sport on sale for 88 cents. i picked up: hot pink, red, purple, lime green, royal blue and baby pink.
think it will look okay?

My only problem is that they used a lot of yarns in their patterns that I can't get locally. I may have to take the credit card out of the freezer now... Agreeing with Rebecca--leave that evil plastic on ice! :wha Amy, you can use any yarn you want as long as it works up to the same gauge as the yarns called for in the patterns. Swatch (http://crochetme.com/joy_of_swatching.html) some yarns from your stash or some less expensive ones you can get locally until you find something that gives you the gauge you need.

That's a great deal on the RH sport, Rebecca. :thumbsup Definitely try a gauge swatch with it to make sure, but it looks like it should be similar.

Yeah, I finally got mine too!! And I have to make that Yo-Yo Cardigan for my daughter's birthday in January. Didn't a few of you try RH sport for that? How did it swatch up? I've been browsing online and pricing different yarns, trying to choose; wool, cotton, or acrylics???
I also really want to make the Thoroughly Modern Granny Jacket and the Interlocking Rings top, and the Tapestry Crochet Bag, and OHHHHHH the Himalaya Tote!!!!!:)h
