I'm making a triangle shawl that calls for fringe around the two sides. I'm not a big fringe fan anyway, but working with Homespun is worst because the fringe gets all frizzy if you don't knot each one.

This shawl is a large thick shawl that has a very close weave and has a loop at the end of each row for fringe.

Do any of you have any edging suggestions for me? Edging looks so much nicer than fringe, I think.

What about some kind of scalloped edging?

Yeah, that would probably work. I'm not very advanced and need some help coming up with an edging, maybe a link to a pattern or something.

Are there any good websites that deal with edging?

I am not sure about a web site I just kinda do it as I go. You could try a 1 single crochet in one stitch then 3 single crochets in the next and so on when you get to the bottom try like 3 single crochet then chain 2 3 single crochet.....I did a shawl not too long ago and the edge was a bunch of chains...like chain 8 slip stitch chain 8 alll around it.

Heres how I made my shell edging. I usually have a double crochet base on the bottom or a double crochet.
I put 5 double crochets in the double or the single crochet. then I chain 2 skip 2 single in the next stitch. then Chain too and 5 double crochets in the next stitch.
You can also add a picot to this. Put 3 double crochet in the next stitch chain 3 and put a slip stith in the top of a double crochet 2more double in same stitch . continue with the pattern.
I added this to some cotton yarn shawls I had knitted. I use this a lot on edgings of things. PINKROSES

When I make shawls with yarn that will not make a decent fringe I make a chain fringe. Crochet a chain twice the length of the fringe, ss or sc into the next space on your shawl and repeat to the end. It makes a looped fringe that doesn't get tangled, unravel, and washes easily.

Lots of good ideas. I think I'll try the shell and the chain thing and see which looks best. Thanks to everyone who helped.

I like her answer. The chain fringe looks nice and won't unravel. It can really finish off a garment. I have done it in 20 chain lengths, but you can do any length you think is appropriate. Or even do kind of an uneven edge by doing say 14 chains, 16, 18, 20 and then back down to 14.

Have fun and experiment. You never know what you can come up with.

Good luck.
