Does anyone happen to know of a good doily pattern for a bigginner with thread crochet? I've looked around and they all seem so darn complicated! any help would be appreciated!:)

This might sound silly but what i did was practice on worsted weight yarn first. :haha I bought a pattern with the least amount of complicated stitches and began to practice. Once i became familiar with the pattern i used the correct thread. It took me a couple times to get the tension right but i eventually taught myself! Good-luck!:cheer

Another idea is to start by making thread crochet snowflakes. They're like miniature doilies, really, and many are quite easy. You can even practice by making the first one out of white baby weight yarn, just to see what it should look like when you finish.

I would encourage you to get a pattern - start at Crochet pattern Central
http://www.crochetpatterncentral.com/directory/doilies.php
or this site:

If you just do what the pattern tells you, (take a leap of faith) it is easier than you might think.
This one: http://www.angelfire.com/folk/celtwich/WhiteNote.html would be rather easy if you just do as instructed.
I do admit that it can be much easier if you can find a charted pattern because what you see is what you make but most patterns have a few instructions per row and lots of *----* repeats.
BTW, I do agree about starting with a snowflake but don't wuss out after you do one of those, move on and live on the edge...

I saw this post for making a grape harvest doily with Size 3 thread and tried it for my first thread crochet.

It was a good project for an experienced crocheter who is new to thread. The pattern is on Annie's Attic as a project for learning the popcorn stitch.

Darski mentioned the celtwich site. The site owner has a very nice group that you might consider joining to help guide you through your first few projects.
