Hi! I'm new to the site, found it while looking for a pattern. (Thank you for this site!)

The pattern I'm looking for is one I found on the back of a yarn label, pretty sure it was Lion Brand Yarn. I recently lost it, would really like to recapture the pattern. I contacted Lion Brand, and they say they no longer have copies of the pattern.

The sweater is pretty thick. I think it had "Aspen" in the description, but it's not an Aspen Leaf pattern. The basics of the pattern is that it has you front double crochet in alternating stitches on all rows until the piece comes out almost looking like chainmail or something. (I have pictures I can show, but not posted on the web anywhere, so I don't think I can post directly from my computer here.) Again, pretty thick, very good for cold nights, and a good pattern for men (meaning something a guy can wear without being self-conscious). Women, too: I made one for my sister as well as one for a brother-in-law.

I'd like to see if anyone else happens to have the pattern on-hand, but if it's copyrighted, how would I go about getting the pattern without breaking copyright law?

Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Take care,

Jerry

A picture would be grand in helping to find the pattern! I have quite a bit of Lion Brand in my stash, was it a particular type of yarn (wool-ease, homespun, fisherman wool) And about how long ago did you buy the skein of yarn with the pattern on it?

Was it the men's sweater made of Wool-Ease Chunky, by chance? (Though that one's still on the Lion Brand site...) Don't know if it is (or is similar to) what you're looking for, but I think it's a nice sweater. Use the Pattern Finder at http://www.lionbrand.com and search for "sweaters/tops" with "wool-ease chunky".

Thanks for your replies!

I originally bought the skein about 15 years ago, unfortunately. I'm not sure exactly what kind/quality of yarn it the pattern came with. I searched the Lion Brand site, but none of the patterns they have available matched the one I'm looking for. I'm really surprised: this is a good pattern.

I may have some site space through my provider, will see about trying to post the picture of the section I photographed, plus maybe a picture of the sweater I'm trying to complete.

Thanks again!

OK, I discovered I have some web space to post some photos. The pictures are a little big, so I'll just provide the links instead:

Eureka! It turns out my sister was interested in the pattern at some point, so she has some notes on it. It's called the Rocky Mountain Sweater, and it was on a label of yarn made by Lion Brand. So I've got a little more to search on. If anyone runs across the pattern itself, please let me know!

Thanks again for you all your help!

I have wriiten to Lion Brand for copies of back of the label patterns. They often are able to provide these. Since you have the pattern name they may be able to help.

Thanks, EugeneClarence!

I'll try them again. You're right: maybe with the proper title, they'll be able to help me this time.

Have a great one!

I'm curious, did Lion Brand ever get back to you about this pattern?

I'm sorry: I should've updated this thread. I contacted LionBrand again, and they were still unable to provide a pattern. Maybe I'll find it in my stuff someday. Meanwhile, my sister had some notes which helped me finish off the sweater, so at least the project is done.

Thanks again for all the help!

Update: Believe it or not, I found the pattern. I went to see family a few weeks ago, was talking with my sister-in-law about crochet, and she went to show me a sweater she'd been making for my brother. There really is no such thing as coincidence: it was the same pattern I was looking for, but from a different source. I haven't pursued getting permission to duplicate the pattern, but I can at least post where it can be found:

Woman's Day, Creative Series, Granny Squares & Crafts, Winter 1987. Outdoor Sweater by Lina Marielli. Lion Brand Sayelle.

Glad to have found the pattern, now just have to wrap it up to share with everyone else. If you get to it before I post it, I hope you like it. It's plenty warm.

More later...
