Why of course! And there is a benifit to losing the links.. you get to get them all over again!! Not to mention find a few new ones along the way. I mean, how many of us have links in folders we haven't looked at in so long? I know I do!

I think I must have known something was going to happen...last week, after Rory started first grade, I used some of my newly found free time to go through all my bookmarks, both for crochet & knitting, and I copied & saved or printed out the vast majority of the items that had me just drooling over...and all that stuff is still intact on the harddrive, so I've still got it...it's just the stuff that I couldn't copy into Word properly or didn't want to print off right then that I lost.....

And you know, DH is completely addicted to his PC...we had 11 people coming to our place Sunday morning, and two hours before everyone was due to decend upon us, he sits down to have his breakfast and turned on the PC and that's when it went blip on us...and the guy actually stopped eating (HELLO!! Milk already in the cereal!!) and started undoing the case and poking around...I actually had to ask him to eat his breakfast and help me with the last minute cleaning before he worked on the PC...and he did what I asked, but he kept looking over at the computer...kind of made me think of high school when the guy has to work but keeps looking over at the girl he likes but can't figure out yet....:lol....and he got everything back up Monday, and I had to ask him to let me on for 10 minutes...and yeah, I came here...and he laughed at me! He said he knew I'd be here checking out what everyone's done in the last 2 days...I told him I had to visit ''home" before I checked my email LOL!!

Guys are just wierd sometimes, huh?

Nikki!! That's one of my favs too!! Thanks for sharing it with me!!!

PinkRoses...I never worried about it before...DH is a computer tech by trade, so I guess I just assume that he can fix anything and get them back LOL...guess I learned otherwise this time! He's decided that he's going to start doing a backup rutine now so that this doesn't happen again...

Aaagh, Jessie, I feel for you! I have so many bookmarks -- not just pattern sites, but Crochet Reference, Crochet How-to, Crochet Shopping (hooks and other goodies), Crochet Yarn , Crochet Blogs -- I don't know what I'd do if I lost them all! Thank goodness for Crochetville!

Guys, you don't have to be afraid of losing all your precious sites; it's really easy to make a backup say, once a month, and then you'll never have to worry :)

If anyone doesn't know how to back up their bookmarks or Favourites: in Firefox, they're all in one file called bookmarks.html in your "profile" folder, so all you need do is copy it somewhere safe. The latest version of FF backs up your bookmarks automatically in that folder, but it's still a good idea to save a copy elsewhere. If you use IE, you can use the wizard that pops up when you click on File > Import and Export. Or you can just copy all the contents of your Favorites folder.

If you can it's safest to copy them somewhere *off* your computer -- to a floppy disk or CD -- in case your disk or the whole computer dies. I'll be glad to give more detailed info if anyone wants it; just send me a PM or email.

One thing that I do with all my bookmarks is I write them down in a little book...I keep it near the computer, so that I can easily add things on to it....and then if the unthinkable happens.....I just dig out my book and reinstall them!

Nightowl...thanks for the great info on how I can avoid this happening again in the future!! Since my DH is a comp tech by trade, I tend to leave things like this to him...but I definately will start doing my own bookamrk backups after this!!!:D

Lady C...that notebook is a wonderful idea!! Knowing me though, I'd write them down then need to look them up and not be able to read my own handwritting LOL!! Maybe a Word file would work better for me...hmm....

You're welcome, Jessie! I saw that you have a techie hubby (lucky girl!) but noticed a couple of other people saying they'd lost their bookmarks or were afraid they might, or didn't know how to transfer them, so I thought I'd jump in.

Hope nobody minded and that I didn't sound like I was lecturing :no --I don't always remember to do backups myself :embar But we can't have our members losing all those great links, can we?

No worries Nightowl!! I think the info you gave was terrific!! Not lecturing at all...and it's very useful info to have...it's funny with how much most people use their computers in their day to day lives and most of us don't even know how to do something as basic as that...every computer user should know this stuff...:manyheart
