sooo...i've noticed a few people saying they were making, or wanted to make afghans of their favorite sports teams...and i want to make one for my bf for christmas, and since i've wanted to be in a CAL for awhile now, but haven't found one that suited me, i thought i'd try and start one myself :)
i will be making one with this as a template: http://kenwilson01.tripod.com/colts.gif ... i'll be making a few changed, but thats the basic idea.
anyone interested in joining with their team of choice? :cheer

I can't seem to get your link to work Lee Ann. I was thinking of making a Steelers afghan for my stepdad for christmas, just a mile-a-minute. Does it matter what pattern as long as it's for a team?

I would like to join too. I've never done a graph before, so it will be fun to learn something new. And I'll make a Steelers one as a surprise for my hubby for Xmas. I saw some patterns on Ebay to buy, I'll have to seriously check them out now :D

I wouldn't spend the money on a pattern. Just find the logo you want to use, save it to your computer and put it in HERE (http://www.microrevolt.org/knitPro/) and voila!

Thanks Donna Lynn. I was looking at a graph pattern on ebay but I didn't want to fool with buy it and waiting for it with yarn at the ready, then come to find out I can't even figure it out. At least this way, if I can't do it I didn't pay for it.

This kind of ghan takes a lot of patience but it really is easy once you start out.
Each square on the graph represents one SC. You do want to make sure that instead of carrying the yarn that you make little "bobbins" of yarn instead. Carrying the yarn over more than a couple of stitches will show through and look bad.
If you need help once you get started just ask. You can do it! I promise! If I can, then you can!
To see what I'm doing you can click HERE (http://donnalynn2.blogspot.com/2006/09/wip-my-hubbys-christmas-gift.html) to see the pic in my blog. I'm making my hubby a Tampa Bay Bucs ghan for Christmas and am using a graph. It is a royal pain in the behind as this is not a simple logo, not to mention the size I'm making this (king sized when done) but it will be worth it!

I hear ya Donna. This is the logo that I'm doing right now. The color changes are driving me nuts!!! I hope it turns out ok though.
The words 'red'sox' are lined with black. Single sc here, single sc there.....you get the picture.

I'm sure you'll be hearing from me Donna Lynn. I'm going to be using the Steelers helmet logo which is really simple, with a lot of pretty solid stuff accept for the word. The only question I have is...well...I put the logo into the graphing program thing on the biggest setting (the word wasn't visible on the smaller ones) but the bottom of the graph only says 96 or 97 squares. Does that mean it's only going to be 96 or so single crochets wide? That doesn't seem very wide.
ktornatola
September 23rd, 2006, 11:36 PM
You can make the blanket wider by just adding to the sides and top and bottom. If it says ch 97......make the chain 137.....adding 20 stitches to each side, or as long as you want it. Also remember you will crochet one extra chain for the turning ch. So you would actually chain 138 for your base chain. Make sense?

Here's another tip for graph 'gans. Done in sc's.
When changing colors put the dropped yarn in the front of the piece.
Have your color yarn in balls in a box lined up as to when you use it. lay your piece on top of the box then rotate box pick up you piece and work, less tangles with your yarn. When you pick up your piece the yarn will now be on the backside.
Hope I haven't confused everyone,:think BUT I did one where I turned my work and had to work through tangeled yarn from 10+ balls of yarn. NOT FUN!! :eek
If anyone else has some tips PLEASE share:yes

I am going to have to disagree with Donnalynn here. Yes, the bobbins are best to use, that way you do not get all tangled up. Now, the best thing to do is crochet over your dropped color no less than 3 and no more than 2 stitches. This way it is anchored in and you have less to weave in, as you cut it close to the last stitch.
No matter how careful you are, up close, the yarn will show through. We are also here for help if needed.
Made a (ugh:eek ) Dallas Cowboy afghan for my son. (oh where did I go wrong:lol )

I think I do it the same way as you but I don't think I said it right. I won't carry over yarn when it's like 12 stitches but if it's only a couple then I do. Does that make sense? Now, personally I try not to carry white over black or black over white at all as it really shows through but if I have to, I'll just do it where I don't carry it through every stitch. I agree about the weaving in of ends. I'm not even half-way done with my current ghan and I have so many ends already I don't know what to do, but I didn't want to carry them over as they were all different colors. I think it's just because this is a christmas gift for my finicky hubby that I want it to be as close to perfect as possible. LOL However Tampa Doll, you are the queen of graph ghans (I've seen your work) so I would have to agree with your methods as you've done several more than me. LOL

I have been trying to find the site where I got the pictures for making yarn butterflies but I can't find it anywhere.
Basically, you wind yarn in a figure eight pattern around your fingers (Vulcan salute works for this, live long and prosper) and then wrap the last bit around the centre to keep it all together. it is anice technique for colour changes and doesn't add weight

Kelro, row 15? That seems a little early for the edges to be curling. I do have curled edges when my graphghans are completed, so I usually end up blocking the 'ghan. Are you sure that you're not dropping any stitches? That's a fairly common occurance on graphghans.
As-so-much as me joining this thread...I'm going to wait until after the football season. I've been thinking 'bout making a Steelers graphghan for my DH..he's grew up about 40 miles outside of Pittsburgh, so he grew up rooting for the black and gold. I couldn't do it last post-season...my heart wasn't into it. And I can't do it now...way too much going on (making an afghan for his mother...my MIL...for Christmas).
Yes, it's hard for this diehard Cincinnati Bengals fan to be married to an equally diehard Pittsburgh Steelers fan.
P.S....I'll root for y'all on the sidelines...at least for now.

It is not going to take up much room in a ghan (doing it verticaly) because it is long and low, what would others do in this case?

Of course not Tampa Doll. Not to worry... You are honestly the queen of graph ghans in my book! :hook
I actually took the logo and put it into my Plastic Canvas Creator and out popped my graph. I was actually able to use this so that I could make the ghan large enough for what I wanted. It's 175 stitches by 140 rows so it's quite large. Then I'm going to add some rows of sc all in black around the edges to complete it.
My edges have been kinda curling from the beginning. I'm not sure but I'm thinking that's nothing to worry about. Just always COUNT as you go!

So my hubby has been home all day and we're in the beginning stages of a kitchen reno, so I haven't had a chance to even look at logos yet. But reading over these posts, I have a newbie question to ask...
What is a bobbin? I'm not a sewer, but I know that a sewing machine has a bobbin, but that wouldn't be big enough to hold yarn.
Also, if I'm doing a Steelers ghan, does Bernat Super Value have a 'gold' colour? Or do you think yellow would do? I'm sooooo excited for this! I can't wait until I get a chance tomorrow to start planning this :D
andrea2006

A bobbin is a plastic thing about 2" long or so with spaces on either end. I was trying to draw it on here but cant seem to figure out how. but you wind the yarn around it to make it easier for you when doing a graph. Also you could use cardboard in a rectangular pattern and cut part of each end out so that you can wind the yarn on it. Sorry if this didnt answer your ? maybe someone can make an easier explanation for you.

I think yellow would work. I don't think Steelers gold is really "gold" in the conventional sense anyway. I think it's justa bright yellow color. Kinda like this little guy. :clap That's the color I'm going to use anyway. If my dad doesn't like it, I can keep it.
P.S. I was just looking at Bernet's website and I would suggest 00608 Bright Yellow for a Steelers ghan

The longer I sit and stew over this single crochet thing, the less comfortable I get with it. Does anyone think it would work if I made a black background then cross-stitched the logo over it. At least one side is bound to look good that way. I don't really care about the other side.

when i did my steelers ghan i used a yellow and it came out ok.
i make little balls of yarn for each color that i have in the ghan and that way its a little easier to work with and untangle. i never carry the yarn over more than 3 stithces other wise it pulls and leaves a loop on the back side now mind you i do mine in the afghan stitch so not sure if its the same in single crochet. you can check out www.crochetcabana.com (http://www.crochetcabana.com) for ideas on color changes and different techniques like bobbins and things

I'm a little confused by the graph site. I have found the logo I'm going to use, and am all ready to upload it to the KnitPro website, but I'm not sure of what 'Grid Size' I need. There's three choices:
Regular (48w x 64h)
Big (96w x 120h)
XL (120w x 160h)
Which is the best choice for an afghan? Or does it matter? I'd like to make a decent size blanket (my hubby is a bigger guy), so would it be better to choose the 'Big' or 'XL' size? Maybe this has nothing to do with the afghan size and I'm just really confused? Thanks!

Ok, new question! I think I have it figured out that 'Big' and 'XL' are just too big (if I'm reading the graph correctly, then its stiches x rows). But when I do the 'Regular' size, I get it in the right size, but the edges of the logo are blurry, I can't make out the word 'Steelers' (I can't figure out how to add a pdf file to show what I'm talking about).
Is this what its supposed to look like, or have I done something wrong?

I would get the XL size because you are going to want at least 160 stitches across and you get more detail in the larger grid.
I did the Big and it wasn't enough for my purposes. I did not get much detail at all.

i'm using the xl grid as well, but it's not really that big either, so i'm going to make a nice border for it to make it the size i want.
i started mine today, i think i was crazy to try this at all, lol. i hate weaving in ends and thats all i seem to be doing. i figured i'd try to weave them as i go, cause if i get to the end and look back at all that weaving i may never finish it.

I wasn't paying much attention when I printed my pattern and I got the 114 stich pattern instead of my 160 stitch pattern and now my printer is refusing to print my blue.
i have a few rows done at the 160 stitch level (only 32 in the whole pattern) but my best (aka largest) chart is that 114 stitch chart. any suggestions about whether to creat a 114 stitch pattern oon my 160 st base or to just rip it out and start over with the 114 good chart?
I was always going to have to build on from this logo in some way because the logo is long and low.

Well I've decided that with all the projects I have on the go for Xmas, I'm going to put off my Steelers ghan until after Christmas and do it for my hubby's birthday in June. I just don't have time to sneak in a project when hubbys not home. But I am defianatly going to follow along and can't wait to see everyone else's ghans!

i decided to use single crochet because i'm only using two different colors and each color section is a considerable size, soo i figured that would be my best bet. i, too, have never done a graph ghan before, so i'm pretty much making up my strategy as i go.

Can anyone get a close up picture of the "wrong" side of your 'ghan where you pick up the "other" color. I don't know if I am picking it up correctly and if I am able to see someone elses work I think I can figure it out. I am having fun trying this graph ghan but it is hard now that I got to the color changes. LOL. Thanks in advance, Kelly.

Ok, you guys have convinced me to start over again with the 114 stitch pattern that I managed to print clearly.:yes
If people are still talking of frogging with more rows done than I have, it will be worth it in the end for ease of working the pattern and it was always going to be a part of a larger afghan as my graph is only 32 rows (now to be 28 rows) high.
This is why we do these things together, we get each other over the heavy ground as lightly as possible :clap

I don't know what I'm doing wrong. My picture is working out evenly, my edges are straight, but when I count the stitches on my graph, the number of stitches it says don't match the number of stitches I have. I can't print anywhere in color. Is there anyway that I can get the PDF file that graphing site gives into microsoft paint or something like that? I think a big part of my problem is that there are varying shades of one color. If I could color them all in the same color it would really help.

You submit your pic that you may find here if you need one:
http://www.sportslogos.net/index.php
You end up with a PDF of your logo - I'd suggest that you go for the largest size when you select.
You can also use print screen to get a larger version of your logo ( may need to cut and paste it

I've never done a graph-ghan before and I'm a little nervous about it:blink, but I would love to make a Chicago Bears one for my borther for Christmas.
I put the logo in the microrevolt program at the highest setting, so it's 160 stitches by 106 rows. (I'm just using the "C" from the helmet. I figured that I would start with something simple).
I haven't been crocheting that long and I have no idea how to guesstimate how much yarn to buy since I don't have a pattern that tells me how many of each color to get. I'm thinking of using Bernat Softee Chunky and I would also like to put the orange, white and blue around it in a border. Would anyone be willing to venture a guess as to how much I should buy? :think I'm thinking maybe 10 of the blue? But see I have no idea if that's ridiculously too much or what.
Also, this may be a silly question, but when working from a graph, do I work the first row right to left, then turn my work and follow the graph from left to right? Or do I still work the graph from right to left? It seems confusing, but I think it will make sense once I start. At least I hope!
Thanks in advance for your help! :manyheart

Hmm...that's a good question. Do we need to do the afghan stitch which, I think, gets worked back & forth without turning the work? Can someone answer that?
I was going to mention to you, Itsgeetee, it might be worth it for you to use a yarn that doesn't have dye lots (I think Red Heart does that) so if you decide you need more, you won't run into dye lot issues.
I think that's what I'm going to do, too, because this is my first graph-ghan, too. :D

With Tunisian, you would always begin at the right side as each row begins again there. (it takes to actions to complete the Tunisian st -> put on & take off)

Andrea, I was thinking about your curling issues this morning and I had an idea, that I might use myself.
Do you think it would look alright if you started going around the afghan with a border, in the round? On the sides of the afghan your stitches would be sideways then, on the border, but I thought it might help it lay flatter having the border to hold it straight.
What do you all think? Would that look alright? A border in the round on an afghan like this? I was thinking about doing it to mine just to make it bigger because my fiance is 6' 5" and this is for him. :)
Let me know what you think because I'm trying to decide if I need to just add the border, as I go, so it's all in the same direction, or if I could get away with doing it in the round afterwards...:think

Andrea, I was looking at afghan stitch tutorials and I found this:
http://www.crochetcabana.com/specialty/tunisian.htm
She talks about a different stitch for the first couple rows that is supposed to keep your work from curling. Another site I found suggested doing a couple rows of single crochet all around the edges of your work (similar to my border idea) to get it to lay flat.
I also just started looking at this page and it looks pretty good too.

Wow, I'm going to have 3 posts in a row! :lol
I have a big question. I was figuring the size of my afghan, if I use the grid I got from knitpro... I used the XL graph, so it's 160X120...if you figure a quarter inch for each stitch my afghan will only be 30X40 inches... my fiance is 6' 5"! So I would need a pretty serious border to make it larger.
I was wondering if it makes sense to count each block as 2 stitches and 2 rows...so it's like a block of 4 stitches. That would work, wouldn't it?:think
I had an image in my head of this great big afghan...not a little foot warmer. :lol :lol

I was using RH ww yarn and my 160 stitch chain hung from my chin to the floor - I'm 5'6". I may have been using a 7mm hook.
What sizes are you using for yarn and hook? that would affect your overall size.
Regarding your question, yes, you could do that and get 4times as much afghan. it seems like it should only be twice as big but area wise it is 4 times the size. It's way too early for math class.
dsabol
October 5th, 2006, 11:32 AM
Well...I haven't actually gotten my stuff yet...but I'm getting ready to go get it right now. :cheer
I was going to get the RH Pounders, and I was thinking of a J hook, but looking at a conversion chart, it looks like you're using something slightly larger than a K hook... hmmm....
I was also thinking about adding some squares to the edges of my pattern AND adding the border, because the pattern is simple enough I could do that.
When I did my math, I came up with 200X280, and it worked out to about a 4X6 afghan...
I guess I'll just have to work a row or two and see how it measures and refigure from there...trial & error. :hook
I'm hoping Michaels has afghan hooks, because I don't have alot of options, where I live. It's pretty much Michaels or Walmart unless I want to drive 30 minutes to get to the little store that's got weird hours but lots of nice yarn. :lol
Wish me luck. I'm obsessed with making this afghan. I hope it comes out nice. We're getting married next September and I think this would be a nice gift. Although I'm thinking I better throw something else in with it, in case he looks at this and goes "oh...uh...it's...nice...":(

Oh, I knew it. NO afghan hooks to be had around this little town. :angry
So, I ordered one online, paid almost as much in shipping as I did for the hook and it won't even come for about a week.
Trying to be the ever-resourceful person that I am, I took one of my regular hooks, stuck the end of it into some aquarium air tubing and started crocheting. It was "ok" except that I had to help the loops over the edge of the tubing (both on and back off the tubing again).
And then, I realized that I missed the first chain and had to frog the whole thing anyway. :bang

Jennifer, thanks for posting that link - they have a lot of great patterns! I like one of their Chicago Bear patterns better than the one I did using the graphing software, but of course it's more complicated! :lol
I have a question about using the afghan stitch/hook - will I have to make it in panels and then sew them together? For example, for the graph I made, the starting chain will be 160 stitches - will all of them fit on the afghan hook? :think
I like the look the afghan stitch gives, but I want to be able to make it all at once. :)

The pattern says I can use SC, tapestry, tunisian, cross stitch method or filet crochet. Since I have never done tunisian I thought I would just do SC but I'm not sure. Is it tough?

Jeanie, you can do the ghans in any stitch you are comfortable with either sc or afghan stitch or what ever you can look online for help ful hints in doing either one and learn how to change colors and such.
i dont use bobbins i just make little yarn balls and keep them in my tote so they dont roll all over the house or become cat toys and do a few rows and untangle then do a few more rows and so on. currently i am doing a ghan of the az cardinals logo for my firends husband for xmas and its afghan stitch thats the only way i do my graph ghans i have never tried to do them in sc but i hear its not to hard. some day i want to make the yankees logo to i have a list a mile long im sure of ghans i want to make some day.

I bought a pattern from the site Jennifer posted, cuddle-up creations. It is pretty simple, I think. I only have to work with 2 colors at a time, and there is a lot of the solid black at the bottom and top.
I'm doing it in sc, using a K hook with Bernat Softee Chunky. I crochet pretty tight, and it's still 4 feet wide. I think it will be about 6 feet long when it's finished. The pattern is 150 x 200. I'm getting about 3.5 sc per inch. Even though it's just black so far, I'll try to post a picture tomorrow.
Andrea, yours is looking good! :yes Why do you think you need to frog it? :yarn

Andrea,
This is the first graph ghan I've done, and I decided to do sc because I don't know how to do the afghan stitch. I looked at some of the tutorials, but I was too anxious to get started to wait to learn something new,:hook plus with the width of my afghan it sounded like I would have to do several panels and sew them together, and that didn't appeal to me at all. :no
Anyway, I'm sort of winging it. I'm just doing one sc for each square on my graph. My graph is 150 squares wide, so I made a chain of 151, then started with the first row on the graph from right to left. The only hitch is I'll have to work every other row from left to right, since with the sc you turn at the end of the row. I haven't really had to do that yet since I'm still in one color, but I don't *think* it will be toooo hard, I'll just have to remember. :eek I think I will mark the rows on the graph that I work left to right with an arrow or something. The graph is 200 rows, so I'll being doing 200 rows of sc! :eek :eek But it's going pretty quickly so far. :yay
I decided to do use the chunky yarn and a K hook because my brother wanted a BIG afghan, so I figured I'd use chunky yarn to get it as big as possible. It's 4 feet wide and will hopefully be about 6 ft long, so if that's not big enough for him, I guess I'll have to add a border!
I'm sure there are people here that have done sc graph ghans that will have much better directions, but unless I'm doing it totally wrong,:lol it doesn't seem too hard so far. :clap
I can't see anything wrong with yours so far, but if you aren't happy with it, I know how that is.:yes I'm also doing the Granny Square CAL, and I had about 9 rounds done and frogged it, even though the people I showed it to said it looked fine. I'm much happier with it now.:manyheart
(I saw you popped in over on the Granny Square CAL - those work up fast so you should join and we can do both together!!! :devil )

Thanks for your answers Glenda , I have been waiting for 3 days now for someone to tell me if I was doing it right and only got a few responses and those were from ones that have not done a graph before either, Its alright I can still use the same colors and just make it a different way, Yes you saw me over there and I will pry end up making one no doubt Im just not real good with color placement.

Andrea,
I think it looks right too. I just finished a small 12x12 yankees graph for a purse I am making. I must have ripped it out a million times since I wasn't sure if what I was doing was right! But I finally left it and it turned out beautiful! I'm still not finished with it though, :lol. I still have the back and the lining to finish! But my point was to just keep going! Honestly, I was finding myself ripping everything I was making out because I was so afraid of doing it wrong. I finally just realized that there really isn't a wrong way, if you like how it looks then leave it! I'm sure it will be beautiful.

Andrea, itsgeetee is right with single crochet you need to reverse every other row and chain one at the beginning of the chain and the end of the rows. one square is equal to one stitch. i think your pictures look pretty good from what i can tell. keep it up you will be ok. Dawn

Why don't you try something smaller? I went on eBay and found a graph pattern I liked then emailed the seller to ask if she could down size it for me to a 12x12 and I am making a small handbag with it. I actually think that because I took a logo and hit knit pro and graphed it that the color is sort of smeared and just pry not right at all. I did find someone in another forum that I go to that said she designed one like what I want to do and its only like 4.95 for the pattern so I'm waiting to see if it might work better that way. I have looked around for pattern books on the afghan st. and charts and have yet to find anything. It appears around here there isnt much even the hooks are pretty much nil and shorter. Thank god I am a packrat with somethings lol. One day I may figure this st. out lol.

I've never done this but have been wanting to make a bag with a Detroit Red Wings logo. Is it any easier to make the bag first and then stitch the logo on top? I've seen this done with knitting, think it was called Swiss darning or something, and it mimicked the knit stitch. I don't know how you'd do it with crochet though, and I'd rather crochet. Has anyone cross-stitched or embroidered onto crochet?

Well, I never tried that, myself. :think
I just started trying to learn tunisian, though, and it's actually VERY easy. I would be continuing my blanket in tunisian, if I had my HOOK that I've been waiting so impatiently for. Don't get me started. :lol
I live in the boonies and they just don't sell those hooks around here so I had to order one. I got tired of waiting and started in the single crochet, which has also been a learning experience but it's getting better.
Good luck! :)

Jeanie, I love your bag! :manyheart It looks great. I might have to do one with the T for the TN Vols...:think
Laurie, You can do them in the afghan stitch or sc. I'm doing mine in sc. If you look back toward the beginning there are several links for tutorials for the afghan stitch, and there are also several links to find and graph the logo you want to do. Or you can buy a graph already made, which is what I did. I got mine at cuddleup-creations.com.
Bascially, each square on the graph is one stitch. When doing sc, make a starting chain in the number of squares across, plus one for the turning chain. My graph is 150 squares across, so my foundation chain was 151. Then you just follow the graph, remembering to add a turning chain at the end of each row AND - very important - to work every other row from left to right.
I hope this helps you get started! This is my first graph-ghan and I am by no means an expert. In fact, I still haven't changed colors yet! Mine starts out with 45 rows of black. I was up to row 33, then realized I had picked up an extra stitch somewhere, and had to frong back to row 20 or 21 to find it. :thair But I've worked my way back up to row 27, and I'm being a lot more careful! :lol I'll try to post a picture tomorrow, although it won't be too exciting - just rows of black!
How is everyone else doing?

Do I have to turn it on every row?
Is it even or odd rows that I work left to right?
I am going to work one in sc or at least try to. I am going to make them for presents and then try to make my son one of Thomas the Tank Engine.
Well I hope that I don't silly but I am trying to learn this. I am a stay at home mom of a 3 year old boy so I have plenty of time to learn.

Yeah, OneCraftySam, I'm following the instructions for the "tapestry" crochet that's referenced on the link you gave, under the Changing Colors heading.
It's worked the best for me, so far. I finally got my afghan hook in the mail, and I tried the afghan stitch and I didn't like it. I think it's because I'm a tight crocheter, and I had a really hard time. I TRIED to crochet loosely, but the stitches were so tight it took me forever to do a row. Well, plus I was watching CSI and using a dark blue yarn, so that might have had something to do with it, too. The stitches were hard to see and I was distracted. But they were still really tight and my hand kept cramping up. :lol
I think I'll stick with sc, it's proven itself so far. :)

I"m doing the raiders emblem for my brother. from what i got i'm going to do it in sc's. the graph is 50 sqaures by 50 sqaures so i take it thats how big my emblem will come out to being with the sc's by doing the charting. and then i will crochet the afghan and put the emblem on top or stitch it or weave it on top and make a border this is what i was thinking of doing. if you have another way please let me know.:hook

Each square of the graph is 1 Sc.
I worked across graph to st before new color, insert hook in next st and pull up a loop; join new color yarn and holding tail at back of work, yarn around hook and pull through 2 loops of previous color on hook.. When working on the even numbered rows (wrong side facing) just work like before but hold the yarn to the front when you change colors.. Hope this will help..

This thread just came to my attention today. I apologize, or I would have addressed the problems it contains much earlier.
First, I was very surprised at all the copyright violations contained in this thread. Our forum guidelines are clear about this issue: if you didn't take the photo or don't have permission from the photographer, it's a violation of our forum guidelines to post it here. Some people may have forgotten what our guidelines are or may have never read them, so I would like to request that everyone who posted a picture of a team logo in this thread to please review our forum guidelines post (http://www.crochetville.org/forum/showthread.php?t=27599)as well as the links therein to a couple of other posts about the copyright issue.
The second issue concerns patterns featuring trademarked images/characters. There were a couple links within this thread to sites featuring patterns based on trademarked images/characters without the designer having obtained proper licensing permission from the trademark owners to distribute the patterns. I believe most (if not all) of these posts were made prior to the big announcement I made in the Original Patterns folders about the serious issues related to trademark infringement when patterns are distributed (whether for sale or for free) without the required licensing arrangements. Since this is such an important issue, I'd also like to request that everyone participating in this thread take a few minutes to read that post (http://www.crochetville.org/forum/showthread.php?t=37193), since much of the information is new here at Crochetville.
I don't want to highjack this thread and get it off topic, so if anybody has questions or concerns about the copyright/trademark issue, you're welcome to either PM or email me or to start a new thread about it if you'd like to have a public discussion. Either way is fine with me. I just want to make sure everyone understands what our guidelines are (and why we have to be so strict on this issue) and does their best to follow them from this point on. :) The 'Ville is highly visible on the internet now, and we don't want to draw any attention that could get us involved in a lawsuit which could result in the loss of the 'Ville. :no

Oh, I forgot to state that while we can't allow patterns to be posted, you are more than welcome to post pictures of your finished items or your WIPs. Posting your completed item is not a violation of any copyright or trademark law that I'm aware of, so those are very much welcomed and encouraged!

Ok, I'm in. This will actually be my very first project. I can't believe I am undertaing this asa my first. Anyway, I am doing a WVU - Mountaineers afghan that is completely SC. I actually bought the pattern but wasn't satified with it so I modified it quite a bit to suit my needs. The entire afghan will be 211 stiches by 267 so I believe that should be quite large. Since this is my first it will probably take me forever so I will be here for a long time. Oh and did I mention I am going to add fringes to the entire afghan...I know I am crazy!

Well I am having a hard time doing this since I am only working on it when dh is not home lol. I have finally gotten almost 15 rows out of the 162 so I definitely have a ways to go. It doesn't look like much yet just a really long strip of gold. Once I start adding the second color in I'll get a picture of it. I haven't figured out how I'm going to finish it yet though. I really like Tampagirls way of finishing it but I'm worried it might be too warm. I may just put a single crochet all around. Any ideas would be great. It's going to be all single crochets and it'll be 200x162.

i just saw this post about red heart copper being discontiued its actually still available on the coats and clark website in the classic size but i thought i would pass along that super saver carrot is an almost exact match to the copper and you get 7 oz instead of 3.5 i use copper for making tiggers and have since switched to carrot since its easier to find just thought i would share

Good day all. I have not gone through and read how every one is doing. I hope that you are all doing well with your sports team afghans.
I have not gotten any further. I will pick it pack up here real soon and get working on it again. My DH teases that I may not have it done till next Christmas. It was supposed to be a gift for this Christmas. OH Well, It will eventually get done. I need to take some time and go through this thread and see what has been done a pictures of what has been done.

Well, I guess I am going to join the CAL. I have just purchased my yarn and edited my graph and counts... I am going to do it in tunisian. I LOVE doing tunisian with large hooks. The fabric is sooo drapey and not too holey. I am doing our local college logo in a stadium blanket size.
I am not too happy with the white yarn I bought. It is "soft white" and looks too beige. I wanted Wool Ease white but couldn't find it locally. I looked at some other whites and they were "squeaky". Has anyone else had that problem?

Ok ya'll I finished the graph part of my lapghan. It is CA for the highschool I graduated from, my dad still goes to all the games he can. I made a 2 ft by 4 ft center in the colors with a big CA and it turned out great. Now I am doing the bobby square in the red and grey on the outside to make the blanket about 4ft by 4ft. It was supposed to be a christmas present for my dad but he knows its coming soon. My only problem was when I got to the CA part I started crocheting tighter and now the top and bottom of the blanket flare out does anyone know how I could go about fixing this without frogging? Its not a huge deal but It drives me nuts!!! Oh and I will have to post a pic later this evening.

They all sound great...I started an Atlanta Falcons one for my hubby, but i frogged it before I even got to my 5th row. I didnt like the way it looked. My question....When you come to a color change block, do you change the color there or do you change it in the previous one so that you can do a complete sc in that color....
Actually...When doing it that way, how do you even change the colors. I keep thinking of how it would be done in knit, and I keep wanting to just give up and do it in knit...Please help me stick to the crocheting.....lol

Well, I finally bought a better white yarn and started my sports ghan. I need this by the middle of March.
Also, my niece just had a premie baby, 1 1/2 pounds. She is 2 1/2 weeks old now. She is a fighter! I was slow to start her a blanket (sounds bad, but the odds were so slim that she would survive). Now I gotta get that going too. So I have two time-sensitive projects. My niece's shower is still on schedule from before the complications started, in just a couple weeks! Yikess....so much to do, so little time.

I have another dumb question. I've never seen a graph ghan live and in person, so I really don't have any idea of the schematics involved in all this. Can I assume that it's all about the single crochet, color changes, and being able to read a graph?
I've been thinking about these ever since I saw the afghan on Ms. Lady's photobucket account, but I don't know the first thing about them.
Although I will probably have to wait until I get through with the other big project that I'm working on first, unless it winds up in the yard.
:devil
And I forgot to add: color-guessing!!!
misssmaggie
January 30th, 2007, 04:45 PM
Yes...graphs are done in single crochet.
And...yes...you are changing colors.
And...yes again...you need to be able to read a graph.
Color guessing??? When you use...
http://www.microrevolt.org/knitPro/ (http://www.microrevolt.org/knitPro/)
your graph comes out in the color of the picture you chose.
If I can do it...anyone can do it!!!

Somehow, I missed this thread . . . Here's my progress so far.
I've been working on this since October. It's been VERY slow going. It takes about 1/2 hr to do one row.
So it sits for weeks on end, as I can't bear to pick it up most days - but I'm just past the 1/2 way point. I'm using the afghan stitch, and I'm hoping I can get this finished by the end of July for my Dad's birthday (but the way it's going . . . it'll probably end up as a Christmas present :blush ).

This is my first afghan using this stitch & I'm not so sure I'll try tackling this again. I'm using a size G hook. If I ever do decide to do another one . . . I'll definitely use a bigger hook!

Hi Tara: your cardinals ghan is looking great, please don't give up on the afghan stitch i do know that maybe next time you will need a larger hook.
I finally got the hang of the tunisian crochet and i wouldn't do a graph afghan any other ways..
I do use a J or K so its easier.
Good speed and keep up the great job on that ghan.

Don't get me wrong, I love how this afghan is turning out.
I started to make it with sc, and it just wasn't working for me.
So I tried a larger afghan hook (J) at first, but I preferred how the smaller hook (G) looked. I just didn't realize when I started this how slow going it would be. I thought I was going to lose my mind working on the letters. There were SO MANY color changes through that part.
It's better now that I'm on the top part with just the the bird. It's starting to go a lot faster with fewer color changes. Now, if I could just count right :blush . I've had to redo 4 rows because I keep miscounting.
I just placed an order from Annie's Attic in case I get the urge to make another afghan stitch afghan. Tunisian Cable Hook (hook sizes are L, M, N) on sale for $0.79! I also ordered the afghan pattern book on sale too.
