Hi Everyone!
I had posted a request earlier about a pattern I was looking for, but did not know the name. I have since found it in a baby book by Bernat and at least now know what it it is called. It is a Mitered Square Afghan.:cheer I will buy this booklet when I can find it, but I would like to make a full size afghan.
I had made one many years ago for my brother. I had explained earlier that it was destroyed in Katrina and it meant a lot to both of us. If any one has a pattern or knows where I can buy one please let me know. This has me at wits end. I misplaced my pattern but it was years ago.
Thanks for any help!
Hugs from LA
Jess

There's one I made on my blog (see my sig, then go to the project gallery), and I got the pattern from this booklet:

Thanks everyone!
The pattern on Lion's site is very close, but is for knitting. It is very nice, thanks for the link. Simonssez, your work is beautiful. The pattern was a closer weave than this square. I'll have to take a closer look at Amazon's booklets.
I'll try to describe. You started with a tight chain circle. Each row went like a chevron. You would do dc"s then in the center do an increase in the middle with a shell, then more dc's. Turn and again increase with a dc shell. That is the essence of it. The color pattern was maybe 10 rows of color A, 8 rows of B, 8 rows of C, 8 rows of D, 6 rows of E. Then each square rotated colors. When these were sewn together it left edges like on the pic below. You then made half squares that looked kind of like triangles. These were then added to make the afghan rectangular. Hope this isn't too confusing.
If anyone can give me hints to put into a search engine, I'll try it. I don't mind looking, but have run out of ways to phrase it.
Thanks again!
This is a pic of the one from bernat's site.

I'm guessing the blue afghan is knitted, too otherwise why don't you just get that pattern?
These might help you figure it out.
Square is towards the bottom:

Four square baby blanket. You could make the squares much smaller:

Potholder, you'll have to figure out how to leave out the hole:

You might also try going to the library or bookstore and flipping through books/leafleats to see if they have any. :)

Empress, you are right it probabaly is knitted. I will still buy the book, but the pattern is for a baby size. If it is for crochet, I'll try to make it larger with bigger thread and needles. Thanks for the links!
I'm not good at creating instructions, but I can follow them.

Crochet Fantasy magazine, summer 2006 issue, has an article about using tunisian crochet to make mitered squares. I think this is exactly what you're looking for in terms of appearance, but not the method you describe.
