i saw recently this bag at the steilman's... and now i find a similar one on the www.spiegel.com site... does anyone know how this is done, or what stich is that..? i am dying to crochet one... :hook

if this link does not work just go to their site and put "petal" in the searchbox... hilariously they say it is knitted.... :devil....

You know what it looks like to me is that the petal is made up of x number of chain stitches to form a loop and then several half double crochets to form the petal...

I don't know what stitch that is, but I saw a picture of a purse very similar on the Crochet Today (http://www.crochetville.org/forum/Idon't know what that is, but I saw a picture of a purse very similar on the Crochet Today website) website if you sign up for their email list. Its a nice looking purse, I may be making one as a gift for Xmas :D

It looks like the bag is done in a body stitch, (you can't see it through the petals), with regularly placed loops (like of chain 11 or so), and then stitches are worked around the loops. It looks like they worked (3 tr, dc, hdc, sc, hdc, dc, 3tr) into each loop.

Not sure what you did but the link isn't working. Here's the correct URL:

I actually saw this same purse on another site...laredoute I think. If you use crochetroo's scallop tea cozy pattern, but stitch the sides/bottom and attach a handle...you'll pretty much have it.

I know that stitch! It is the same one Cupcake uses on her teapot cosy! I made a whole bunch of them as gifts! The pattern is available here
http://crochetroo.blogspot.com/2006/05/scallop-tea-cosy-instructions.html
you will just have to figure out how to stagger the scallops so they do not fall one directly on top of the other!

here is a similar pattern. Shape is different but scalloped nonetheless. Maybe this'll be more helpful than my other post.

Thanks too to everyone who provided the links to make one like it - the teapot cozy sure comes close, just turn it upside down maybe??? If you make one honeydreamer would you let us know which pattern you used & that worked best????? THANKS bunches!!

I don't think you'd need to turn it upside down. The scallops on roo's cozy are the same direction as the ones on the bag. The main different being the ones on the bag are staggered. I'm hoping to piddle with it this week and see if I can figure it out. If so, I'll post a pic and any notes I make.

Thanks - knowing myself the way I do, I'd probably try turning it upside down anyway :) just to see the effect. Can't wait to see what you come up with!

I think by turning it upside down you get something with the effect of an artichoke! LOL:lol .....if you make larger ones it can be very pretty ....sort of Lotus blossomy!
