Scarf? Shawl?

My mother mentioned to me the other day that one of her friends was given a crochetted item for Christmas she thought was so cool. As she described it, it was a scarf that could also be worn as a hood. Do you think she means a mobius scarf? Or something else? She turns 50 in just over a month, so if I can find a pattern, I'd like to make her one for her birthday.

I'm assuming it was round. But I honestly don't know. She kind of said in passing, one of those very obvious "I would like one of these, but I'm trying to make it look like I'm just telling you how cool it was."
