For hospital babies, and I remember as a new mom how I loved those new hats that were given to us. And especially here at holiday central I'd like to make maybe Halloween style, Thanksgiving style (?), some sort of Christmasy style, does any one know of any patterns like this??

to make them in a certain "theme" you could alternate colours, or even use a varigated thread. For xmas for example you could use a varigated or combo of red, white and green. Halloween you could use orange and black. I'm aussie and we don't have thanksgiving so I'm not sure if there is associated colours.

Another thing to try would be to make plain hats and put on some accents. Xmas trees, snowflakes, stockings etc for xmas, pumpkins, ghosts, candy corn etc for halloween and again I'm not familiar with thanksgiving but i know a turkey couldn't hurt being given a mention! You could pin them on so they can be removed by the parents after the season, or stitch them on as a permanant reminer. Best of luck :)

I discovered that by using a baby yarn and a D or E hook, I could use a regular pattern and have it come out baby size. I made a newsboy hat this way and then made a small little rope and put across between the brim and the hat. Then I put a small pom pom on the top. It turned out really cute. Then using a little larger hook made another one that turned out a good size for a little girl. Hope this gives some ideas to help.
