Just wondering if anyone can help me out here.

I have NO idea if this was done from a pattern or someone made it up.

But, if anyone has any clues as to where a pattern might be for it, or ideas on how to do something like this, it would be greatly appreciated.

It was a shawl, it was crocheted, and within the stitches, the back of it had a large pentacle (upright star in a circle). It wasn't "woven" in, it didn't seem to be added in afterwards, and it looked to be a rather open type of stitch.

I wish i had taken a picture of it when i had seen it.

A woman had come into out shop about two years ago wearing it, she had made it....

Any help is greatly appreciated, and i wish i could explain it better!

Sounds like it would have been done in Filet Crochet. With filet, the stitches are fairly open and you can stitch in any design (you map it out, like cross-stitch).

Here is one done with a rose (http://womansday.com/article.asp?section_id=3&article_id=6718&page_number=1)

Is that similar to what you are talking about?

It looks a little confusing!!

Jess, I'm still looking I've came across one like what you want one time, I just can't find it anywhere now. I know I searched for it before because I want one. If I find it I will let you know.

Well, i decided to try to graph out my own and see how it goes.

It's for filet crochet....i've looked at a couple tutorials, did a few tests, and i think i'm ready to tackle it. :box

If anyone is interested in the graph that i did up, i'd be happy to post a link to it.

Being this is my first attempt at filet crochet, i'm not expecting much......but we shall see......

I'll post pictures once it's done!

Can't wait to see it. Filet crochet really isn't that hard. Once you get a couple of the rows down, it's pretty repetitive. Just keep track of where you are in the pattern. I usually mark off the rows as I finish them with a highlighter.
And....good for you for tackling this project. When it's done you will be so proud of yourself!!

Jess,

I did a filet pentacle shawl for my birthday and am working on 1 for my priestess. The pattern that I used came from Maria Merlino (she has a banner running at the top of the page) and she also has a goddess shawl pattern. Hope that helps (and filet is not that difficult. I debated on buying the pattern because I had not done it very much at all and the only problem I really had was getting the 1st graphed row in the right place. after that, I had a landmark to work around :) ).

Just as I went to reply, I saw the date of this thread. But for a newbie, like me, I found this site: http://crochetliving.com/PatternInformation.asp?ID=7. When I get thru all my 70-11 (tons) of projects, I want to do this next!

Actually, this is a thread from over 2 years ago, before we moved to vBulletin, back when we were on a different message board platform. It doesn't look like the person who started the thread ever registered an account with us here on vBulletin, so don't expect an answer from her! :lol

thats the pattern that i used for my shawl. it turned out very nice, esp for my 1st venture into filet. I'm doing a 2nd shawl for my priestess, and so far i have over 14 hours on this 1. did have to frog 2 diff rows on 2 diff occassions when i got added a chain in the design parts, lol. I don't switch gears too well, i guess. :)

OOH OOH OOH! That was me!!! :waving

I never did find anything, but made one up on my own and have hooked a few of these up over the past two years since I posted that. Wow, time flies!! I've mainly done these as gifts and on consignment at local craft stores, and take orders at pagan events and such. I moreso enjoy customizing these for people as opposed to just hooking them up to get them done.

I have a link to some pictures of more recent ones here:

I'm currently working on getting the pattern ready for sale or distribution or whatever I decide. The pattern so far includes basic filet instructions, the graph, and also a "numbered" graph for those of us that don't like looking at little squares - bold numbers are blocks, normal numbers are mesh. The pattern is just for the base shawl, and doesn't include any of the embellishment instructions - as I like folks to make their own.

I've actually been thinking of putting together a witchy crochet-a-long with my pattern - specifics being that participants would HAVE to personalize it - more than just a ruffled edging or something - if you check out the pictures of the Sunflowers of Mabon shawl, then you'll catch the drift of what I'm meaning.

Right now, I'm working on my Midsummer Shawl - and hating the colors. I'm just not a 'bright' kinda gal - but we'll see how it turns out.

Oh kewlios. I'd admired your site over on the wiccan thread and was wondering if there was a way to get your pattern. I liked what you did w/ the black rose in the center and my groves priestess is being elevated to 3rd degree soon and loves roses.... hmmm....ideas ideas :)
