View Full Version : Sham on you

I have been debating all day but I think it might just be fun to come up with some pillow shams.
I am working on the Square elegance afghan that is featured in a couple of threads around here and the lady got extra yarn so I can develop something to go with it.
This CAL would be about each of us designing and executing a pillow sham pattern that suits our needs. if you just want a sham for a throw pillow - that can work...
If you have king size pillows and want them to match your bedspread - that can work.
We need ideas and ways to make these jewels.
If you need a bit of time to play during the holiday crochet crunch, we could do that here. Since we don't have a set pattern, anything goes.
Anybody wanna play?

Yes! :clap
I printed that spike-stitchpattern last week and want to make some in different colors. Or maybe some from my '70s patternbooks.
So I would love to join you!

Hi, Can't resist joining! My mom lives in florida and a pillow would make a good holiday gift. Look at Home Decor-"opulent pillow" (pg. 38 by racerose)It shows a pillow made from scraps from the book "Hip to Crochet."
I have loved the pattern square elegance, but have not tried it yet.It is high up on my list of "things to crochet before I die"!!

Here is a link to that post - it's well down the list and hard to get to otherwise

It is a nice look for crochet. I was looking more for the decorative-cover- your-pillows-during-the-day style for me though
I think I will have to stay with textural interest to stay in line with the Square Elegance spread though. Well, we'll see

Do you have a picture of your afghan?
I started with the spike stitch, but I think I hate the colors I'm using :(
I chose red, orange and brown, but I'm not sure if it looks like fall-colors or looks just very depressing :)

I am doing it in a very pretty cream colour
I just found this and it could make a good sham to 'go with' my pattern

I really do like that Spike stitch pillow front. I wanted to stay in the single colour but that could be very pretty too. I did an afghan years ago that used that stitch and it is quite easy and looks good.
I do have some brown and a golden tan that would go with my bit of cream.
need a swatch.

I have started a Sham that uses Sandi Marshall's UpDown stitch and the waffle stitch from the Square Elegance afghan itself. I am using a deep dusky rose colour and it seems to be looking good.
I have to find a way to offset the difference is size between the up Down and the Waffle or I will have to find another texture stitch altogether.
I have not given up hopes for the Spike Stitch but it means I have to get all the stuff off the rubbermaid bin to get my golden tan yarn. :sigh
I may end up with one of each before I can make a choice.

This is the one I am trying to make work that uses my waffle stitch. Just the beginning...

I am now working the waffle stitch in the centre section to try to even it all out

Darski,
I thought you might like to see this! I remembered this thread from a loooooong time ago! This pillow brought me to the same blanket that you are making. I used the same stitch pattern for a beautiful baby blanket.
Anyway, I was just excited that I was able to do a search and find this picture to show you! http://www.crochetville.org/forum/showthread.php?t=15141&highlight=pillow
Happy weekend,

That is a good way to go for a pillow. I did find the thread here about the blanket originally and I could use this pattern too.
It really is neat made square like that with the three fpdc's.
Thank you so much. I am going to try that. I have not been terribly happy with what I did so far. I mean it was ok but just not quite right.
I think I will try this with 2 strands Thank you thank you thank you!
