When my son was a baby [he is now nearly 22!!] I made an afghan for him. Unfortunately my cat chewed it up. :( I would love to locate the pattern for it. It was in a leaflet; can't really remember if it was the full-size leaflet, or one of the small ones.
It used a very unusual stitch, which looked like a star or snowflake. There was also a stitch which looked like a plus sign. Made from soft baby yarn, it was such a wonderful afghan!
I know it's a long shot, but can anyone help me out?

Hi Rascalsmom!
If you can post a photo it might help us locate the pattern for you. :think
Thanks & good luck!

The problem is, even if I could find a photo, it would not be digital. And I have no scanner.
Is the stitch familiar to anyone? I don't recall ever seeing such a stitch before, or since. The "star" was made in halves...the first row was the bottom half, then when you went back the other way, the second row formed the top half. It was really unusual.
I will search for a photo ( but I rather doubt I have one), and perhaps I can find someone with a scanner....

That sounds sort of familiar. I bought a pattern in the 1970s for a Snowflake Layette. Does this look familiar (click on the bootie to get a closeup of the stitch)? http://cgi.ebay.com/SNOWFLAKE-LAYETTE-CROCHET-PATTERN_W0QQitemZ110054644135QQihZ001QQcategoryZ41 229QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Rascal's Mom, I'm not 100% sure, but I recently bought a "lot" of patterns on ebay and if I recall correctly, there was a copy of the booklet in the lot. Since I already have one, I would be willing to make a trade or sell you the booklet if you like. But let me check when I get home tonight, just to be sure.

Does anyone know how that stitch is made? I was able to find similar stitches in my library, but not one that made them stand out so well. Might have to get the pattern if I can't find stitch. No baby, but would like to make a blanket in rainbow colors with that stitch. :)

It's been so long that I can't remember...but I'm bidding on that one mudpie posted, so if I get it I can share the stitch with you!
My youngest "baby" is now 10, the other two are 19 and almost 22, so I'm sure if I make that afghan it won't be in baby colors, either! :lol

That particular auction has shipping at $5.55 which I think is excessive! Shouldn't cost more than $1.50 to mail.
Try doing a search for that leaflet, Snowflake Layette. I'm sure you can find it at a more reasonable price with a more reasonable s/h price.

I did find another auction for the same thing...plus there are three other things I'm thinking of bidding on! Much less for shipping, which she will combine for multiple items.

Gotta love combined shipping. I wish you could do that with Amazon marketplace purchases.

Did you get the pattern booklet? I have one you may have if not.
