Shelleden: I was inspired by our posts in the accessories show-and-tell [see variations on a hat]...I'm offering up a challenge...let's see who can come up with the most variations on your sock monkey hat by Christmas Eve (this can even include the ones we've already made). Are you up for it? :devil :heehee Anyone else wanna take me up on this challenge?

Ahh!! Too cute! I love the sock monkey hats and blanket from SnB Crochet and have added them to my very long long list of things to do when I get more experienced with crochet. ;)

Good luck to all!

You know, I'm beginning to think there's something wrong with that baby - it hasn't woken up (is that a word - woken? lol) since I got her! She sleeps 24/7. Come to think of it, she doesn't eat, drink, or poop either. Maybe I should take her to a dollyatrician?:devil

Well, of course we're only allowed to use paper crochet hooks. They're like plastic crochet hooks, but flimsy-er. Safest kind. And we're only allowed 6" peices of yarn - they're afraid we might get tangled up in it. :lol
Actually, the hat is the same size as the child size in the pattern. I just added the ear flaps. I think I used a smaller hook, too (G). Kendal is only 1 yr. old so her head is a little smaller than older children. And that doll model is about the size of a 3 mo. old baby. I'll post a pic of Kendal wearing it when I give it to her this weekend.
Thanks for the compliment!

Rosemary

Shelle, your little model for the ear-flap hat, certainly does need to be checked out. All she does is sit all day with her eyes closed with a soother stuck in her mouth. I haven't seen her move once, and I have been staring at the photos for hours. Please take her for some help soon! I can't crochet at all because of the anxiety I am feeling over this little one. :confused

You can make it similar to the monkey hat (except much smaller, and tube-like), stuff lightly, then add legs & arms made by chaining about 11 & making 10 sc, then sew them on. The tail is just a chain.

Okay. I like my padded room - it's comfy. And much safer! I was sitting here reading Crochetville postings when DH came from the, um, library and I leaned back to talk to him. My chair leans back and then is *supposed* to stop... buuutttttt, it was sorta at an angle so I just kept going back, slow-mo until I landed on the carpet... He was laughing so hard. He was gonna pull me and the chair up, and I said, with as much dignity as I could must while lying sideways on a tipped over chair, "I'll just roll out of it. But thanks." My daughter was sitting on the couch just looking at me and shaking her head.

So time to go back to the 'safe room'.... get my six inches of yarn and my paper hook...:blush

Yeah, I'm fine. It's totally the CHAIRS FAULT... It's like those bad Fox Network Shows "When____ Attack" - you know, fill in the word... when pets attack, when sports fans attack, when COMPUTER CHAIRS attack.

I guess I reached a new level of stupid 'cause normally my kids would laugh at me and my husband would be concerned but he just stood looking down at me, just watching me slowly sink... like in chair quicksand, just slowwwlllly gooooiiiinnnnng oooovvvvveeerrrr. It didn't hurt at all - I sorta 'rode with the fall'. Actually, I just sunk. And then he laughed, a good hearty laugh. Laughter is good for you, ya know. But the way Tara looked at me, geez, just that look of confusion and annoyance, like "How could you possibly be so completely pathetic?"

I had to roll over and off the chair and then stood up and sorta straightened my shirt and pushed my hair behind my ears and looked at them, like, "What? Is there a problem in this room? 'Cause I'm just gonna go sit in the NON-MOVING crochet chair and work on an afghan... don't know what you guys are gonna do."

Oh... night nurse is coming with my psyche meds... back to my padded room (right now I have two 'spotters' on each side of the chair - you know what spotters are? the people that stand by you when you lift weights in case you can't hold them up? - yeah, so I'm safe.":hug

Sweet dreams!

We're conjoined triplets separated only in spirit... and by several hundreds of miles... but otherwise I think we'll look smashing in our matching Sock Monkey Dresses with our Sock Monkey Hats and Sock Monkey Stoles and Sock Monkey purses... and of course we would complete the ensemble with our Sock Monkey Slippers *duh*.... and keep track of our med schedule with our Sock Monkey Bookmark and our keys *like they give us driving privileges:lol * with our Sock Monkey Keychains!

We're gonna be SO CUTE I just can't stand it!!!!!

But I don't want one of this stinky knitted numbers... I want a CROCHETED SOCK MONKEY DRESS and I'm gonna kick and scream and run with scissors until I get what I want:hook

I'd love to send her a hat or keychain. :hook

What kind of yarn is the "sock monkey" yarn? Brand? Color? I am curious, I don't have the SNB yet, but want it.

A week ago I bought a new set of flannel sheets on clearance at Target. Haha.. they have Sock Monkey's on them, all over them, in all kinds of poses. I have washed them up and will use them soon. I was thinking maybe I could make me a sock monkey to sit on my bed when I use these sheets!

Colyak Crocheter
February 10th, 2007, 05:46 PM
The yarn we're using is Bernat Denimstyle.

No one sells it where I'm at, so I have to order it or have a really
nice friend send it to me. :hook

Shelle, do you have a Target in Indiana? Indiana is not too far from Iowa, so maybe you'd have the sheets there too.

Not sure what to say Rosemary, sorry hon, not sure what Toronto has. Maybe check Target online, if you're really want them.

You guys are hysterical. Shelle yes flannel sheets are wonderful in the bitter cold weather that has hit Iowa, and apparently IN too. Actually I love them year round.

I love the weather this time of year in southern California, nice and warm, compared to where I'm from. I went to L.A. back a few years ago at this time of year, well we even swam in the roof top pool several times. It was wonderful. I guess it's all relative to what you're used to.

And yes Paulette, 2 and 7 can feel greatly different, depends on if you have massive winds or just a cool breeze. :P You're just spoiled there in CA. :hug
