I'm going on a cruise (Eastern seaboard) in October of this year. I would LOVE to make myself an elegant evening wrap for the *dress up* night.

Anyone have any suggestions? pattern? links to patterns?

Thanks! :bigsmile

A couple I think are pretty are:
Hairpin lace shawl, Crochet!, November 2002
Marvelous magical mobius, Crochet!, January 2003

Because they're old isues, you'd have to try and find them on eBay or somewhere that sells back issues. Country Yarns (http://www.countryyarns.com/cm001.htm) also has some back issues for sale.

There's also one called Midnight Shawl in the August 2004 Crochet Fantasy (22nd anniversary issue). A basic but pretty beaded fishnet look. That issue is out now. Saw it at Books-A-Million yesterday.

Do you want a traingle wrap or an rectangle wrap?
This one is rectangle www.thesmartyarns.com/patterns/nov03/chenilleshawl.html (http://www.thesmartyarns.com/patterns/nov03/chenilleshawl.html) and this one is triangle www.knitting-crochet.com/crochet/trisha.html (http://www.knitting-crochet.com/crochet/trisha.html)they are all found on crochet pattern central this one is hard to see but it looks like it could be really elegant www.craftown.com/crochet/pat39.htm (http://www.craftown.com/crochet/pat39.htm)
hope this helps.:clap

Thanks for the warm response! And for sending me to crochet pattern central (i think)! hahaha! :lol I found soooo many things there that I really want to do. *sigh* Now I just have to pick one!

The cruise is in October. I'd rather have a rectangle than a triangle. And I want it to be lacy (i think) rather than thick.

I have found a few that I really like:
Long open shawl (http://www.knitting-crochet.com/crochet/lonopesha.html)
long V stitch shawl (http://www.knitting-crochet.com/crochet/lonvsha.html)
light as a feather stole (http://www.lionbrand.com/cgi-bin/lionbrand/index.fcgi?page=http://www.lionbrand.com/patterns/cim-stol.asp)

I've had emails from several of you (thanks!) regarding patterns. My head is spinning.

My dress is mainly black, with a touch of lavender at one shoulder. I want to have a nice black wrap to go over it. Not shiney or flashy... just nice.

Again, thanks for all of your support.
(And if you have yarn suggestions... fling 'em my way!) (hehe)

i just bought patons brilliant in lavendar with silver shot thru it, my plans are to make a shawl with it.....but maybe it would be more flashy then you would want...it would def be lacy and airy, not for warmth

If you don't mind paying for a pattern, the Jessica Simpson Shawl from Stitch Diva is super cute (everytime I wear mine people want to buy it from me)!

Have you checked out the Lion Brand web sites they have free crochet and knit patterns and I know they have some shawl patterns there. And as far as it being extra special the yarn you use will make a big differance. There are some pretty threads and yarns out there with metalic threads through them to give some extra sparkle.
