Hi guys. I'm trying to get a scrap afghan started. Anyone know of some free patterns around? And has anyone actually done a scrap afghan using really small balls? Changing colors all of the time and not having a color pattern? I've never done it before, but my brother wants to start one so, anything would help! Thanks

hmmmm. are you willing to do something in motif? try these (http://www.crochetpatterncentral.com/directory/smaller_motifs_squares.php)

i really like this (http://members.aol.com/SAG55/russiansq.html) one, and it has the possibility of using lots of really small amounts

another (http://members.aol.com/SAG55/rain.html) good one

yet another (http://www.fortunecity.com/littleitaly/pisa/22/patterns/squares/cygnisq.html)

If you are going to change colors after every row, you could leave a tail at the beginning of your row, then cut off your color at the end of your row and leave a tail there too. Then start again at the beginning with a new color, leaving a tail, so you would not turn your work. When you are finished, you would have some fringe at the sides of your ghan.

**Edit: That would solve the problem of weaving in all those color changes too ;)

You could also try one of the yo-yo scrap designs at priscillascrochet.com.

Unfortunately, her bandwith has been exceeded for the day so I can't link to the page. Well, I could but it wouldn't be useful at the moment.:p

Funny you should ask this. While the grandkids were napping today I started a granny rectangle Granny's Baby Preemie Afghan (http://patterns.crochetcabana.com/grannys-baby-petit.pdf) today. I have all kinds of little balls of yarn and just crochet till I run out and tie the next one on and keep going. It's truly a scrap afghan with no "pattern" to the colors at all. It's also a definite "no brainer" once you get strarted and transports easily to the movies, meetings, or on a road trip. You just keep making rounds until it's big enough!

I once took all those little balls of odds and ends that I had rolled up and just starting crocheting in a double crochet ripple pattern. There was no real rhyme or reason to the color combinations but it turned out really nice and bright. I did kind of line up the balls just to make sure that I didn't have two very similar colors together. Even did the edging the same way, just kept going, as I ran out of a color, started a new one. And as SamplerLady did, I've also done it in a gian granny square. It's amazing, you wouldn't think it would look nice, but it does. Have fun.

Hi Amber. <img border=0 src="http://img28.photobucket.com/albums/v84/crochetville/wave.gif" /> I've done a large granny square with black as the base and strips of colors thrown in in a hodge podge manner. You can see a picture of it in my afghans album. <img border=0 src="http://img28.photobucket.com/albums/v84/crochetville/photos.gif" /> Just follow the link in my signature to see it. I've also made a ripple with scraps, just grabbing a ball of yarn and working until it ran out and then grabbing another and continue until I got tired of it. I used the Russian join method so there were no ends to work in. <img border=0 src="http://img28.photobucket.com/albums/v84/crochetville/ura1.gif" /> It actually turned out very pretty. I gave it to Spike for his bed and he says he loves it.<img border=0 src="http://img28.photobucket.com/albums/v84/crochetville/cloud9.gif" />

Seems like priscillascrochet.com is always down when I try to go. :( Her stuff is still up at her old AOL site, though. :bigsmile Her yo-yo scrapghan is pretty. Here's the link (http://hometown.aol.com/lffunt/scrapyo.html) on her AOL site.
