I am working on my dad's birthday present, since he reads my blog I can't blog what I have done so far, so I thought I would share it with you guys. It is working up faster than I thought it would and I love the way it is turning out. Here is a pic of 45 rows and a weeks work. I started it on March 10th. The colors are gray, black, white, tan, and brown. It is hard to see the brown cat in the pic but he shows up great in person. He is behind the black cat. They are so cute and I love doing it cause with each row is something new. The yucky part is going to be sewing in the threads! I may get a start on that this weekend!

The directions say 94 rows but I think I will have to make more so it won't look like a square. It seems wider than the directions measurments, I will have to measure it tonight and see. But more rows will be fine, that just means more cats!

Oh and here is the link to the pattern:

That's a great pattern! I've never crochetted from a grid like that before. Is it hard? The pattern doesn't seem too complicated. And so many members of my family would love that blanket.

Is it just me??? :think I have tried since yesterday to see the picture. All I see is the html code. So I copied and pasted all 3 codes...nothing...I was using Mozilla.

Sometimes Mozilla doesn't work with everything. SO I changed to IE, Finally I can see the picture :cheer But it is very small. Is it just me or can everybody else see the pic in the post?

Barbara

Julie
March 19th, 2005, 10:09 AM
Since the board moved over, some of the codes that were used to show images don't quite work the same as they were for ezBoard. Very close though. So there might be images that don't show but I think a good number of them will. If photobucket was used to host the images, they seem to be there for the most part.

truelove730
March 19th, 2005, 12:14 PM
I fixed the image and made it a bit larger so you can see it better.

I measured the afgan width last night and it is 6" wider than the instructions. Making it 56", that is always the case when I use the hook the instructions say. I crochet loose so I usually go down a hook size, but I wanted to use my Graydog hook so I did not this time.

I have 50 rows complete and the length so far is 26. So it will be big but that is okay! :)

Here is a pic with all the loose ends I get to weave in! :eek

http://photos3.flickr.com/6843117_62aeedc933.jpg

I will work on these this weekend so I don't have so much to do when done.

Heather, thanks for posting the photo of the *back* of the afghan. I was wondering what it looked like. I've not made anything that required changing colors this frequently or using a grid like this pattern, so have been mighty curious how it's done.

A coworker made one, and she sewed a fabric backing to it to make a sofa throw instead of working in all those ends.

Kathy

truelove730
March 21st, 2005, 11:25 AM
That is so clever to sew a backing on instead of weaving the ends in. I started weaving the ends in last night. What a chore. It will take a long time but a little at a time and it will get done!

The stitch is two double crochet for every square. It goes really fast and I really am enjoying making it. I have 72 rows done now! :)

Thanks everyone for the comments.

I don't mind at all. I love the colors too! I think you will find it lots of fun to work cause each line is something new and the pattern forms. Let me know if you have any questions. I hope you enjoy it as much as I am. I could not stop crocheting to weave in the ends, finally did some before bed! :)

Can't wait to see yours!

:cheer Woohoo I'm glad I can see the picture now!!! I really like the afghan and I wouldn't worry that it is bigger than the pattern. :) Nothing wrong with a big afghan :D

Barbara
I always go a hook or 2 sizes bigger than the pattern calls for so my afghans will be bigger. I just buy extra yarn so I don't run out.
Except for the pillowghan I just started, don't think I need a square bigger than 12"

Okay I have done as many rows as the directions said and the afghan measures 52"lx56"w. So I will repeat another 23 rows of the pattern and that should finish it off. I spent three days weaving in 75 rows of ends and that was a relief to get done. Now I am doing it ever 15 rows or so. So here is an update picture of the afghan. The next pic will be the completed one. I really love the way this looks and can't wait to give it to my dad. Only wish I could see his face, but he is in FL.

Have a great day everyone!

hum, this thread is now over 2 years old. The afghan is pretty amazing, but the dad has had a few birthdays since then.

Yeh I know the afghan is cool though. A thread about my yard goose outfit form 2005 came up too :lol At least it gave me a kick in the pants to make her another outfit ;)

:cheer Oh-my-god! That is so cool! I've been totally afraid to try something like that with all those color changes, but this pattern might push me over the edge! :D I am a HUGE cat lover & that design is way nicer than most I see out there. And, I LOVE the idea of sewing a fabric back to it so I don't have to deal with all those ends.

I'm wondering if I couldn't tweak the pattern to make a smaller version for a pillow instead of the whole afghan? Do you think that would work? :think

That came out beautiful!
A friend of mine tried that pattern and couldn't get through it. Too many balls of yarn tangling on her. I'm too chicken to try something that complex, but I'm in awe of your work!
