Ok, a few of you wanted to see the doily crinoline lady, I did make a few changes, this is my progress so far,
http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o123/sarahsheart/crinolinedoily1.jpg (doesnt work)
I don't have easy access to #30 thread so I used # 10 and a #7 hook. I stopped after row 11 b/c the doily was getting big! Then picked up again in the pattern where the chains come in the design. The doily is laid across my scanner, so that shows you how big it is, the doll pieces seem to be ok shape wise, will have to see. I'll post more photos as I get more done. :hook
Ok. I have wanted to do these for such a long time, and I finally ordered a pattern from Crochet Memories . com and I absolutely love them!!! The First one I gave to my Mom, the second one I put onto a fleece baby blankie for a lady at church who is expecting, and the third I did today, I just said a prayer and jumped right in. I didn't have a pattern, I did use my recent experience from the other two for an idea on how to shape this one, the first 2 are about 9" and the blue one is about 5" maby 6". Here you go!

Yep, I like that one too. The first one I ordered is the Easter Girl one, (did up in the peach and then the white on the origional links) and the one I just ordered is the Red and Purple one on the link. She has great patterns, they are easy to read and are very beautiful. I can hardly wait to get the second one.;)

:hook My mom hand sews fabric ones to pillows, and I always liked them, so naturally I thought I was in heaven when I saw crocheted ones. I am going to try the vintage one you posted. I really like that it is vintage. I have 2 boys, so crochet is the only thing I get to do in a girly way, ( no offence to you great guys who crochet! which is awesome by the way!)

I think probably some nice pink with White instead of blue maybe?
darski
December 1, 2006, 02:34 AM
I think I would just use a single colour. although you might get a good effect by using stripes of two colours on alternating rounds.
I think the major problem with the colours as shown is that they do not represent our current palette and it just doesn't sit right to our eyes. It's pink and blue...what's not to like :think. :lol

Lovely pieces! Never would have thought of one on a blanket, either. Nice work!
Granted, thread is a bit too fiddly for me, but I love seeing what beautiful things other folks make with it- especially the crinoline lady you designed yourself. I love it because it doesn't look like all the ones out there- that one is YOU, lady!

Wonder if this would be to big if I did it with a size 10 thread and a # 7 hook? I don't have any # 30 thread, and the closest Hobby Lobby is about 45-50 minutes away. I think I will try anyway.:hook

Praise Jesus! Thank you all! I used # 10 also. I haven't worked with anything smaller. I did do less rounds on the crinoline doily, I was afraid it would be to big.

I haven't tried making any of the Crinoline Lady doilies, but I have gotten lots of patterns from Cylinda at Crochet Memories. She does some really great work and I speak with her via email and telephone quite often. Eventually I will be getting some of the finished pieces I've made from her patterns up on my website--just haven't taken the time. Having too much fun stitching.
Keep up the good work.

Wow - I am so fascinated with these. In fact, I just won an old Coates and Clarke booklet from Ebay with patterns for these dainty ladies. I am just wondering...what have you all done with them? I want to frame a couple of them but I'm wondering what other uses there are. I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Traditionally they were put in the corners of table cloths, as a decoration, my mom used to sew them to pillows. I have put them on fleece baby blankets, and then crocheted an edge around the outside of the blanket. You can attach them to towels to add to your bathroom, or if you have a powder room, anything lady like or girly, I thought of adding one to a tote bag. You know, added to a sheet set for a little girls room would be pretty too. I probably could put them anywhere, but then my hubby would know I'm nuts! :D So, I've given some away, and will frame 2 to hang.
