I just finished this bikini for Hammie's Hawaiian getaway in June. It's from the Spring 2005 issue of Joann magazine.

I'm particularly proud because it's my first real try at clothing other than hats and ponchos. I was surprised it was relatively easy!

Beautiful! I love it.
I'm glad to hear that it was pretty easy - I want to try that pattern, too, but I had been hesitating. Now I'll jump right in!

Thanks everyone :)) Hammie came over this morning and I forced her to freeze and try it on :hee It looks great! I wish I would have thought to get a picture, but she was kind of huddled in the bathroom shivering :rotfl
I think the fit is great. I was a little skeptical and thought that there was a chance of pointy boob syndrome, but the cups smooth out really nicely when worn. I was unsure of the way the bottoms would fit too, but they're a lot less skimpy than I first thought. If I can, I'll prompt her to get pictures soon and post them!

Just wondering if the pattern is posted on the webpage or is it only in the mag issue? This is exactly what my 21 year old daughter is looking for.
Thanks,

I love the bikini! I don't think I would ever have the confidence to walk around in that, even if I were a skinny minny. The suit is gorgeous and I am sure it will look fab on. For all of you who don't get the Joann's Mag, there is an awesome mag called Knit.1, don't let the name fool you, with a load of crocheted stuff. It includes a tankini and bikini pattern too. Not to mention a slinky white summery dress. They work all the patterns out of LB yarn too, which is nice. If you get the chance check it out.

Isabella2000, as far as I know, you can only find the pattern in the Spring 2005 issue of Joann. If you're not in to crafting other than crochet, there is a poncho, bolero, coverup and cellphone cover patterns in this issue too.

I'll have to go find that mag and give it a try.
Even if we don't have Joann stores in Canada, you can still get the mag. Try Chapters or other big bookstores.

Lovely work, I haven't had the body for a bikini since I was about 12 or so.
I'd love to find a pattern for a one piece, or a 2 piece that covers the belly, sorta like short-shorts and a tank top.

I love it! I personally wouldn't be brave enough to swim in it but I hear crocheted bikinis are great for sunbathing! :cheer

I'm curious to hear about it's "swimibility", too. I used a 98% cotton, 2% elastic yarn and I think that should help it stay on. I made a bottom for my 5 y.o. daughter from the same stuff which she tested for me in the bathtub. There were no problems with coverage or with staying on, but hers is a full brief as opposed to the string bikini!

It's absolutely beautiful. Did you line it? I mean can you actually wear it? Just curious. Great work.

The sizes on the Lion Brand site are junior with the large being only 30" finished chest. My 38D would never fit into it :D
I might look around some more and see what I can find. I'd like the bottoms to be more like short shorts than bikini bottoms.

I've searched high and low for a bikini top that fits a 38DD and nothing comes up. How would I go about adjusting the pattern to fit me? It's hard to find good patterns for bigger chested woman. I have a smaller waist and smaller hips, but my boobs just get in the way! lol.

I didn't line it, but it's really unnecessary. There aren't any coverage issues - the stiches are small. You can't see skin! :)
The person I made it for said she'd let me post a photo of her in it. I just need to get those ends weaved in!
